ICC Awards

I'd like to think that statistics over the past couple of years contribute to selection for World ODI XI selection and not just one standout season because players like Broad & Maharoof being taunted as some of the best players in one format of the game just seems wrong. Neither of them are by any means a dominant force in ODI cricket and both struggle immensely at Test level.

Good Squad but for ICC awards only performance in that period counts. Broad can also be included in place of Oram.

This isn't the point of the ICC awards though. Otherwise the team would largely be the same team every year. It's rewarding those players who have performed well in the calendar year. The top 8's fine, but then Broad's performed better than Lee in 2008, also Mendis has out bowled Murali in ODi cricket in the last year. He's got far and away the best record in ODi cricket this year with the ball, more wickets, at a better economy for a lower average. Mendis has to be in the team for 2008.

I always cringe when watching these ICC awards. You can just tell the players don't want to be there at all and the awards mean very little.
