Indian Premier League - General Discussion

With Mandeep and Gurkeerat ahead of him in the Punjab side, it is unlikely that he ever gets a chance there anytime soon. KKR does seem like his best bet at captaincy apart from the A Team. My main worry is him continuining our tradition of "the best batsman does not necessarily make the best captain".
And this is my fear! We will get a solid captain material, I fear in that process we might lose him as a batsman.

We all are excited and privileged to see yet another talent come out. When Sachin was retiring, we got a Virat, when he will go, we will still have a superstar.

He looks super matured but I just dont want him to be bogged down by the pressure of captaincy. If I be positive, it could bring out the best in him as well. Hopefully he gets the high road!

So you think Raina and Harbhajan are equal to Virat and Chahal?
I think he meant the importance in the team. Harbhajan was as important to CSK as Chahal to RCB. Same for Raina.

Karun Nair the triple centurion who was so unceremoniously dumped from the test scene might find his IPL career on it's last legs if Bangalore snap him up!

It is extremely sad that Sai Kishore keeps bowling brilliantly every SMAT season, only to be benched by CSK in the IPL. The guy is a wonderful Powerplay bowler (just like his seniors Ashwin and Sundar in TN) and this SMAT season he has shown incredible economy on flat batting beauties. Seeing the decline of left arm spinners in Dhoni's eyes and the way he uses even Jadeja's bowling in IPL, will the likes of Sai Kishore even get a chance? Or for that matter, Mitchell Santner who was the world's No. 1 T20 bowler when IPL 2020 happened last year and yet he sat out for almost the whole season (he played a few games, and he did well in those).

CSK have tied themselves into a corner by picking too many left arm spinners. I read someone post on social media that maybe CSK should consider another trade with Rajasthan where they give Santner to RR and get Mayank Markande (leg spinner). It frees up an overseas spot, reduces us to two left arm spinners and gets us a young Indian leggie. Also looks like Rajasthan have a riches of leggies (Tewatia, Gopal, Markande) with just one left arm spinner (Lormor).

Remember Baba Aparajith? Was in Dhoni's team for 5 years (3 years CSK and 2 in RPSG), never debuted in the IPL.

Don't even remind me of that horror.

I know a lot of things click in place somehow for MSD that it becomes hard to question his decision making. But I will always question him for not using Baba Aparajith properly. Could've been the next Badrinath with the ability to bowl solid off spin. Hope that fate doesn't befall Sai Kishore.

P.s: I know I sound like defending TN players which is my home state, but obviously I come from that state and so naturally have a passion towards their games. I feel IPL teams should strive to have a decent balance of local presence (I know the argument of "this is not Ranji" will come in; but trust me, there are lot of fans of all the IPL teams involved that feel happy when a local player succeeds for them; the local attachment is very strong, more so for certain states, e.g. Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad).

I agree, it's always good when a relatively unknown player gets a low price from his home team and then performs, shows that the scouting system is good. And also it doesn't feel very good when a young/inexperienced player from my city is bought from some other ipl team and then performs there

I don't want to. Decided to become prime Azharuddin against me in CC.

As an aside, it appears I may have completely missed the draft. Anyone have a rundown of what happened?

The auctions are next month I believe. It's just the release and trade window at the moment.

Aparajith had oodles of talent whenever I saw him play. Not sure how good he would have been in T20s long term but it definitely was odd that he did not get a single game.

Sai Kishore on the other hand seems to be tailor made for T20s, he was instrumental in tightening the noose in our semis victory and deserves a good run this season at least. It will be criminal if he doesn't get a chance this season.

I'd like to see some new international faces in the league as well, I think Marnus and Malan will probably get picked this time.

Unofficial news says Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad will likely be the grounds to host IPL 2021. Seeing how Motera turned for the SMAT Final few nights back, CSK won't be disappointed about playing there. And I am sure they won't take Mumbai as their home ground :D They won't mind Pune too, considering that they won IPL 2018 despite being forced to move their home ground to Pune

Hope we (CSK) go into the auction with an all-round strategy to account for any changes in venue. All the more important to get in hard hitters and guys who can force the batting pace. Wish they go after the following guys:

M Shahrukh Khan (a big hitting finisher)
K Gowtham (off spinner / lower order hitter)
A BIG HITTING OVERSEAS GUY
AN INDIAN LEGGIE

The conditions on offer on both grounds are similar so I don't see why they would need to choose one over the other. Also you can find nearly entire stadium in Mumbai supporting CSK unless they are playing MI. The Mumbai crowd does have obsession with certain players like Dhoni and Kohli. Dhoni alone brings a lot of support from the crowd for CSK.
