Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Defending champions eliminated from the IPL. To be fair their messed up retention+ auction is to blame. The over reliance of Russell and Narine proved them costly this season. Add to that the consistency of failures from Rinku and Venky hasn't helped their cause either. Rahane and Raghuvanshi were probably the better players in the setup.

I don't see GT going too far from here. The loss of Buttler and Rutherford is fatal when you don't have able backups. Yes this means more chances to Washington and maybe Mendis getting a look-in but they are no Buttler/Rutherford. It would be interesting to see if Shanaka gets a nod in the team.

Oh wow! Both Buttler and Rutherford are back and Rabada joins in too. Now this is interesting though I still think Punjab are a more balanced side and favorite to win.

Punjab qualifies for the play-offs. Lot of talk of Shreyas and rightly so. It baffles me how the board could discard his captaincy credentials/ ambitions here. A lot of us thought that the DC march to the finals was a flash in the pan, but then he followed it up with a KKR victory and now PBKS. I understand that T20 captaincy is different than ODI and Test, but the man has led Mumbai to Ranji, India A and countless others. I would be happy if the BCCI considers him for a leadership role. Brilliant head! Here's hoping for the best!

Honestly, it is a bit irritating to have these one word posts. It is spam. I don't mind him putting out a line explaining what's going on in his mind- but merely putting across one word makes no sense at all!

I am a bit surprised at the scheduling of the playoffs here- Mullanpur and Ahmedabad?

Mullanpur is close to the border and that was the very reason they had to shift some of the games out. Punjab & Ahmedabad won't be complaining here for sure, but the real question is- why not Hyderabad? Kolkata should have gotten the final, unless the rains in the region are expected to be super heavy. If not, they could simply have moved the entire juggernaut to a neutral location-Ranchi, Nagpur,Pune, Vizag, Trivandrum?

Someone needs to tell Dhoni uncle that the game has moved on. If you dont target higher strike rates, you would continue to languish at the bottom. This was exactly India's problem during the last decade, right until that WT20 semi-final loss versus England. Thank God, that Rohit Sharma identified the root cause, else we wouldn't have gotten far in CWC 2023/WT2024.

Guys let focus now is Bumrah the Micheal Holding of our era?
Not a big fan of comparing across eras, but since the question has been posed- I'd say Jasprit Bumrah is better than Holding.

Holding grew up in an era where fast bowling was ruthless and there weren't many rules- they could bowl bouncers, attack continually and there weren't fielding restrictions. In Test matches, the safety guards were a distant memory.

The game has become easier and is dominate largely by batsmen. Bumrah has shown that he can outsmart even the best, across formats. I'd rate him higher than Holding.

I am not convinced with the calls from Sai Sudharshan to be a part of the Indian setup. Let him have another season and perhaps a run within the India 'A' setup first. On that note though, I don't want him to end up like another Aparajith or Easwaran as well. We have seen this happen with some IPL wonders like Jakati, Gony, Rinku, Tewatia- all shot to fame in one season, but failed to make their mark later on.

The guy has a List A average of 60, he has scored Two 50's against South Africa in South Africa in Three matches with ODI Average of 63. He is also consistently performing well in all IPL, since his debut with IPL average of 50, he can play all three formats of the game. Especially with KO RO gone in t20 and tests, I feel he has earned his spot in atleast one format of the game, he has played well in any number in top 4.
