Indian Premier League - General Discussion

I am not convinced with the calls from Sai Sudharshan to be a part of the Indian setup. Let him have another season and perhaps a run within the India 'A' setup first. On that note though, I don't want him to end up like another Aparajith or Easwaran as well. We have seen this happen with some IPL wonders like Jakati, Gony, Rinku, Tewatia- all shot to fame in one season, but failed to make their mark later on.
Nah bro this guy is insanely buffed and definitely one in a million... much more than what was said about others like Shaw, Chand or even successful ones like Gill.. he is sound and proficient in every format, literally racking runs in T20 which seems to technically be his weakest format as his playing style would mean to give even better returns in List-A and FC... And in domestic he has proven to be.. International... he got a few games in SOUTH AFRICA Away track on ODI debut and even there he immediately impressed, and last few IPLs he has been consistently giving runs, he is literally a run bank this year (I have him in a fantasy auction team, every time he plays it's just points flooding). He is way ahead of all mentioned there.. I feel he is destined to be an all-format great for India. Plus he's from my city.. I think I've heard of him since his TNPL days... many have spoken extremely big of him, he just seems so reliable and good he needs to play now imo.

The rain washed match notwithstanding, SRH were probably 1 win away from playoffs. Not bad to finish #6 after what 6 consecutive losses?

Had Head and Klaasen regained their form earlier in the season we would've been in the top 2.

It's okay though because we are going to win next season for sure.

The Navratri didn't fair good for the SRH's 'demonic' batters which eventually cost the place in playoffs. It's an exciting team without a doubt. They are fav team. I do follow GT but that's because it is my local team. SRH on the other hand is thrilling to watch especially for the last couple of seasons.

Took some time to sink into the new squad that CSK has bought. I honestly think that CSK has assembled a very functional squad just like they always do, and a squad where they have worked to cover all bases and also have good amount of backups for each position/role.

If you look at the squad, you might say that "they dont have an explosive middle/lower order hitter", but they have got Sam Curran who's returning back to CSK after a humbling experience with Punjab Kings and frankly his fortunes took a dip at Punjab while he is actually known to be an explosive hitter down the order. Ravindra Jadeja has changed his game in recent times but if you time his entry well enough where he enters for the last 2-3 overs of the innings, he can easily go berserk. And coming to MS Dhoni - he showed last season that he still has it in him to bash the daylights outta the bowling. And also MSD has mentioned in a recent interview that the reason he batted that low in IPL 2024 was that he wanted to give batting time for the likes of Dube and Jadeja with the T20 WC happening immediately after the IPL. Well thats not going to be the case next year and expect Dhoni to come up higher. Also CSK have another explosive lower order hitter in Jamie Overton (has a T20 career strike rate of 160). And Rachin Ravindra is another guy who has shown that he can bat explosively and could be given different role down the order. The options are there, its just that their reputation has decreased in recent times (e.g., Sam Curran) or that there is the stereotype of "ageing" which does not exist anymore in T20 cricket.

CSK is one team who have NEVER deviated from their auction strategy since the IPL began. Well, it has resulted in them being joint highest at the trophies with MI. You might say "oh Dhoni is not captain anymore and that midas touch does not exist". Well the team culture/ethos/environment still stays the same and Dhoni is still there guiding Ruturaj and the free hit.eu, by staying behind the stumps. I mean come on, even right now new players and returning players sport a HUGE SMILE when they know that they are being picked to JUST BE with CSK (not play; just be).
This season, i don't know why, (its my opinion) CSK mindset was never to win a trophy! Everyone was focusing on MS Dhoni playing his last season with CSK. Overall performance was not so good as it was in MS Dhoni's Prime. Seems, the next season we will see a more aggressive CSK team. As CSK is out of the tournament, my wishes are with Virat Kohli, wishing RCB good luck for the IPL playoffs.

They lost the plot in the mega-auction. However, due to the spate of injuries, they have been lucky enough to re-build the team with some attacking options. As for MSD- I personally believe he needs to step aside if the team has to go grow, but given the relationship, it is hard to imagine him going away so soon.

After we got eliminated, a 5th/6th finish was something I really wanted, unlike most fans who considered it pointless after losing out on qualification, I still wanted them to end mid-table cause in history it'll be remembered as a not outright horrible season (in 2022, we were 10 points in 7 games and finished 8th, that was really unnecessary). And they kinda overdid my expectations, winning basically every game. The DC no result hurts like hell now tho, but Im still happy, I expected them to get 10/12 points at most, but we've left the RR-CSK group behind and come mid-table which kinda makes it feel a little better about this season as a whole.

I admit to being surprised- I thought GT and MI would play in Q1, based off historical results.
Anyway, happy for Punjab- Playoffs after an eternity! Here's to hoping they win!

I would love for PBKS to win- they have a good team after ages, The Iyer-Ponting combo has worked for them and they would hope to be lucky for a 4th time. The initial 2 IPLs saw Punjab reach the knock-outs, followed by the year where the Sehwag led team reached the finals. I remember that game being Punjab's entirely, until a Manish Pandey blitzkrieg saw them lose in the final over.

If not Punjab, I dont mind GT winning- somehow not in favour of RCB/Pandya lifting the trophy here. Biased, yes, more biased, as I wouldn't mind a Rohit/SKY/Bumrah led MI winning. :grinning:

Lol, I'm confused!

George Bailey.

Sehwag was batting with galsses by that year.
