Welcome to the first One Day International of five between New Zealand and England. This is sure to be a great series after what we saw in the first two Twenty20 Matches which ended 1-1 overall. Today we are in Wellington for what is sure to be a great evenly contested match.

The team news as far as New Zealand are concerned is they will only play one spinner with Mills coming in for Jeetan Patel who is slightly unfortunate to miss out. The only other change is that Brendan McCullum will open and Peter Fulton goes down to number 5.

For England things change a bit more as Stuart Broad loses his place to Steve Harmison who will want to impress on his comeback to ODI cricket. Ian Bell will open with Cook while Shah has been promoted to four after a good showing in the Twenty20 series. There has also been a wicket keeper change as the fans have picked exciting prospect Phil Mustard ahead of Matt Prior. He will want to impress.

New Zealand won the toss in this day/night match and unsurprisingly he has decided to bat and make England do it under lights. The Kiwis will be looking to post a huge target and see if the England batsmen really have what it takes.

very good team.....good batting line up and hoping bell does well opening...monty at 10 on his way up!!!!!!!
good luck DX and awesome work

I am surprised with selection of Harmison and Bell as a opener. Lets see how England manage to chase under lights. Kiwis should look for something huge now. ;) Looking forward to it.

NEW ZEALAND INNINGS

In this re-jigged New Zealand batting line up the openers are explosive wicket keeper Brendan McCullum and the very talented Lou Vincent that played well in the last Twenty20 match and will be looking to carry on his good form.

1st Over – Bowled by Harmison:
0,4,0,0,1,0
BM: 5 (5)
LV: 0 (1)
5/0

Harmison drops marginally short with his second delivery and Brendan McCullum pounces very quickly on the ball and cuts powerfully through backward point for the first boundary of the match. McCullum will look to carry on like this for sure.

2nd Over – Bowled by Anderson:
0,0+NB,0,0,0,0,0
BM: 5 (11)
LV: 0 (1)
6/0

3rd Over – Bowled by Harmison:
0,0,0,0,2+NB,0,4
BM: 5 (11)
LV: 6 (7)
13/0

Harmison now over pitches and Vincent powerfully drives Harmison down the ground and it races to the rope for Vincent’s first boundary of the match. Harmison concedes seven off the over.

4th Over – Bowled by Anderson:
0,0,0,0,0,0
BM: 5 (17)
LV: 6 (7)
13/0

5th Over – Bowled by Harmison:
0,0,0,0,1,0
BM: 5 (18)
LV: 7 (12)
14/0

6th Over – Bowled by Anderson:
0,0,0,0,0,0
BM: 5 (18)
LV: 7 (18)
14/0

7th Over – Bowled by Harmison:
0,0,0,0,00+WD,0
BM: 5 (24)
LV: 7 (18)
15/0

8th Over – Bowled by Anderson:
0,1,0,0,0,0
BM: 5 (28)
LV: 8 (20)
16/0

9th Over – Bowled by Harmison:
0,0,0,4,4,0
BM: 5 (28)
LV: 16 (26)
24/0

Vincent picks up the pace for New Zealand and it was needed after Harmison and Anderson have been able to keep it tight for a while. Vincent hits consecutive boundaries down to third man expertly and then powerfully flicked away off his legs fine for four because Harmison strayed down the leg side. Good over for Vincent and New Zealand.

10th Over – Bowled by Anderson:
4,4,0,0,0,0
BM: 13 (34)
LV: 16 (26)
32/0

Anderson this time is punished by McCullum and it looks like the Kiwi openers are finally reading the pitch which looks a belter and going for it. McCullum hits two boundaries off of the first two balls from Anderson. The first is powerfully cut while the second is the same but more powerful. Two fine shots!

11th Over – Bowled by Flintoff:
0,4,4,1,0,0
BM: 13 (36)
LV: 25 (30)
41/0

Andrew Flintoff is turned to by Paul Collingwood to ease the run rate but he concedes nine runs off his first overs including another two boundaries from Vincent who is now racing away. A perfect cover drive which races over the ropes is followed by a straight drive off of a Yorker low toss delivery for another boundary.

12th Over – Bowled by Anderson:
0,1,4,0,0,0
BM: 17 (40)
LV: 26 (32)
46/0

Anderson bowls a good over apart from one ball which is a slower ball picked by Brendan McCullum and smashed over backward point for a four after one bounce. Superb shot again from McCullum and this opening partnership is developing well now for New Zealand.

13th Over – Bowled by Flintoff:
1,0,0,0,0,0
BM: 17 (45)
LV: 27 (33)
47/0

14th Over – Bowled by Anderson:
0,0,1,0,0,1
BM: 18 (48)
LV: 28 (36)
49/0

15th Over – Bowled by Flintoff:
0,4+NB,0,1,0,0,1
BM: 23 (51)
LV: 29 (39)
56/0

Great over for New Zealand and the fifty partnership is brought up in fine style following a beautiful cut shot from McCullum who is pouncing on anything short today. A couple of singles are also picked up and the Kiwis are looking comfortable right now.

16th Over – Bowled by Harmison:
4,0,0+NB,0,0,0,1
BM: 23 (51)
LV: 34 (45)
62/0

Harmison is back into the attack replacing Anderson but off his first ball he is beautifully driven down the ground by Vincent and that is a bad start from the Durham man. The rest of the over is a lot better though it has to be said.

17th Over – Bowled by Flintoff:
0,0,0,0,0,1
BM: 23 (51)
LV: 35 (51)
63/0

18th Over – Bowled by Harmison:
0,0,1,0,0,1
BM: 24 (54)
LV: 36 (54)
65/0

19th Over – Bowled by Flintoff:
0,4,0,4,0,1
BM: 33 (60)
LV: 36 (54)
74/0

McCullum suddenly picks up the pace again and Flintoff is punished by conceding two boundaries and nine runs off the over. The first is powerfully off his legs fine for four and that is followed by a superb cover drive which races past the fielders to the rope.

20th Over – Bowled by Harmison:
0,0,0,1,0,4
BM: 34 (64)
LV: 40 (56)
79/0

Lou Vincent now gets into the action and hits a brilliantly timed square drive which nearly breaks the advertising boards behind the rope. Great shot as he approaches his half century. Both these player look in fine form.

21st Over – Bowled by Panesar:
4,0,0,2,0,0
BM: 40 (70)
LV: 40 (56)
85/0

Collingwood turns to Monty Panesar to make something happen but he concedes six off his first over including a boundary from his first ball which was dabbed superbly down to third man. McCullum shows his technical play is as good as his sheer power.

22nd Over – Bowled by Mascarenhas:
1,0,0,1,0,0
BM: 41 (73)
LV: 41 (59)
87/0

23rd Over – Bowled by Panesar:
2,0,0,1,0,0
BM: 44 (77)
LV: 41 (61)
90/0

24th Over – Bowled by Mascarenhas:
1,0,1,0,0,0
BM: 45 (81)
LV: 42 (63)
92/0

25th Over – Bowled by Panesar:
0,0,4,1LB,1,0
BM: 46 (82)
LV: 46 (68)
98/0

Panesar drops one short and wide and he is punished by Lou Vincent with a huge cut. Vincent is putting every bad ball away today and these openers look like they are never going to get out.

New Zealand will be very pleased with the start they have made as Lou Vincent and Brendan McCullum are both on 46 not out and playing the England bowlers with ease. The only thing they will want to do is maybe up the rate slightly to get a bigger score but at the moment the Kiwis are happy with what they are doing.

NZ1stODI25OversBattingcopy.jpg

As for the England bowlers none have been great because none have a wicket but James Anderson kept things tight. Flintoff has been expensive unusually and Panesar and Mascarenhas have only just been brought into the attack The only other option is Collingwood.

ENGBowling1stODI25Overscopy.jpg

If New Zealand can up the rate a bit they may be looking at a very high score on a pitch which looks good but don’t forget England must bat under lights. At the minute New Zealand is on top.

Join us after the break when we will have the remainder of the New Zealand innings and believe me you don’t want to miss this!

Slow start from NZ at least they have wickets in hand to go for it in the last 25 overs..

New Zealand have done really well here. Although they have made a slow start they still have all their wickets and should be looking at posting a big total. Excellent presentation as usual mate :thumbs

Surprising to see bell opening. england are under the pressure now, they will rea;;y have to make a comeback
