1st Test - Morning Session - Australia vs South Africa

By the way, before we start, this game is Cricket 07!! (thanks 4 asking!)

Mark Nicholas: Good morning and welcome to the 1st Test between Australia and South Africa, sponsored by 3 Mobile. This is bound to be a great test series and im looking forward to every second of it! As for the teams, there are no injury worries so a full strength side for both teams.

Austraila: South Africa:
J.Langer B.Dippenaar
M.Hayden G.Smith (C)
R.Ponting (C) J.Kallis
D.Martyn H.Gibbs
M.Hussey J.Rudolph
M.Clarke A.de Villiers
A.Glichrist (WK) M.Boucher
S.Warne S.Pollock
B.Lee N.Boje
S.Clark M.Ntini
G.McGrath A.Nel

MN: This is a hard surface with good carry through to the wicket keeper. Batsman should find it easy to play their strokes on. A batsmans paradise!!
Here's Michael Atherton, pitchsise, with the toss.

MA: Thanks Mark and here we have Ricky Ponting and Graeme Smith just about ready to make the toss. Ponting calls tails and..... its heads! South Africa win the toss. What are you going to do Graeme?

GS: Well, were gonna have a bat, its a great surface and we hope to post a challenging total.

MA: Ok, good luck. Unfortunately, weve just missed Ricky Ponting but im sure he'll want to make early in-roads to put South Africa under pressure, back to you Mark.

MN: Thanks Michael. Both teams are now ready so lets get to the action.

1st over: A steady first over from McGrath beating the outside edge with the first ball of the series! A single apiece though means SA are 2-0.

2nd over: Well a startling over from Lee right until he gifts Smith with a short and wide ball which Smith deservadly cuts for 4 runs. SA are 6-0.

3rd over: A solid over from McGrath which produces the 1st maiden of the day. SA 6-0.

4th over: Oh, what a jaffer! Lee has sent Graeme Smith's off-stump flying to England as he clean bowls Smith for a mediocre 5 runs. Kallis to the crease earlier than expected and SA are 7-1!

5th over: Kallis at the crease produces 1 run from the over and another steasy over from McGrath. 8-1.

3 more overs pass with Brett Lee conceding all the runs! Kallis has progressed to 10* and Dippenaar to 6*. SA are 22-1 off 8 overs.

9th over: A great cover drive for 4 from Dippenaar brings the only runs from the over. SA 26-1.

10th over: A perfect cover drive from Kallis this time as it runs over the rope for 4 runs. Lee's expensive opening spell continues. SA 31-1.

11th over: A great over from McGrath where he found the edge of Kallis's Kookaburra Genesis bat! (one of my personal favourites!), only to find it fly through Hayden's outstretched hands for 4 runs! Kallis now on 15*, SA 35-1.

10 overs pass with no more wickets for the Aussies. Shane Warne has bowled 3 solid enough overs but Lee is still expensive. SA are 60-1 off 21 overs.

22nd over: Well Kallis loves his cover drives! He smashes one off a fullish delivery from Mr.Expensive and progresses to 29. SA 64-1.

23rd over: A rare, expensive over from the king of legspin, Shane Warne as Dippenaar hits two boundaries off consecutive balls. Dippenaar on 37, SA are 72-1 and progressing well.

24th over: An electric yet wayward entry from the Hampshire medium fast bowler, Stuart Clark as he sees Kallis reel from his vicious bouncers. but also punishing 2 bad balls for 2 boundaries. SA 80-1.

25th over: A maiden from Warne where Dippenaar survived an LBW shout. Just pitched outside leg though. SA still 80-1

A disastrous last 5 overs for SA as they lose 2 wickets in 3 overs. First to go was Kallis, trapped in front for 37 off Clark. A great decision from the umpire, Aleem Dar. Next to go was Herschelle Gibbs, clean bowled by a Shane Warne flipper, for just 3 runs!
Lunch is being taken with Dippenaar still at he crease on 44* and Jacques Rudolph on 7*. SA are 97-3 at lunch.

MN: Well, I dont know about you but i thought South Africa had that morning session in the bag until that last flourish from the Aussies! Come back after lunch for, hopefully, as good a session as the first!

Just a question, why did Ponting choose in the toss of the coin? It's always the away team, meaning that Smith should've tossed the coin.

A few answers.... i apologise for the lack of colour as my computer wont allow me to change the colours...(dont know why) and i dont know how to do screenies :( Ive tried to make it as interesting as possible but thats all that i can do for now!

After lunch... what can South Africa do?

MN: Welcome back to the 1st 3 Mobile Test match between Austraila and South Africa. Its been a great morning so lets hope for a session to match it, this afternoon!

32nd over: The 1st over after lunch sees Dippenaar get his half century with two cracking off drives off Stuart Clark. Dippenaar on 52*, South Africa 104-3

33rd over: McGrath is greeted back into the attack with a masterful off drive for 4 from Jacques Rudolph. SA 109-3.

34th over: Well, I sense a big innings here from Dippenaar as he hits a big-un for 6 right back over Clark's head. Put that with a graceful cut shot for 4 and a well worked single, makes 11 off the over and SA are 120-3.

10 more overs pass and another wicket falls!! I think my senses are failing because Dippenaar, well set on 63, prods at one outside off stump and nicks it to Glichrist. SA were 120-4 at that stage, enter De Villiers and SA have progressed to 143-4 off 44 overs.

45th over: Lee back into the attack and concedes 4 runs with a short ball.
SA 147-4.

46th over: Well an expensive 9 off the over from Stuart Clark although the batting skills of Rudolph are quite something to watch! SA 156-4

47th over: A rare maiden from Lee, only his second in 13 overs! SA 156-4.

Another 5 overs pass with no wickets. SA have progressed to 175-4, with Rudolph in 40* and de Villiers on 25*. Michael Clarke has been used a part time spin bowler, bowling a total of 4 overs for 12 runs throughout the innings.

53rd over: A steady over from Warne, bought back into the attack by Ponting to replace Michael Clarke. SA 177-4.

54th over: Thinking about it, Stuart Clark has been as expensive as Brett Lee, conceding 4 more that over but also beating the outside edge twice aswell. SA 181-4

55th over: Rudolph moves on to 45* with a majestic straight drive off Warne. SA 185-4

Another bad 6 overs follow for South Africa, losing 2 more wickets. Firstly, Jacques Rudolph, attempting a ridiculous reverse sweep and clean bowled by Warne. Next over, Mark Boucher pushes at one outside off stump and follows Rudolph back to the pavilion for just 4 runs. SA 199-6!

61st over: Shane Warne concedes 2 runs to Shaun Pollock, who in my opinion, is the greatest of the South African all-rounders. SA 201-6

62nd over: Clark concedes 1 run and has the South Africans on the run! SA 202-6

63rd over: Yet another solid over from Warne, just 1 off it in the end.
SA 203-6

64th over: Great bowling from Clark in the last over before tea! He has Pollock all over the place but South Africa go in for the tea break at 204-6.

MN: Its tea here in Brisbane in the 1st Test. At the crease are De Villiers on 37 and Pollock on 4. Michael, can you feel the South Africans posting a big score with only the tail left?[/COLOR]

MA: Well, if it was against a worse side then maybe but not against the Aussies. Their bowling attack is too strong and i expect them to clean up the tail with no problems.

MN: Ok, thanks Michael, after the break we'll be getting back to the last session of play, and its sure to be a great one!

The first 10 overs of the session are all Australia's, with the dismissal of AB de Villiers, caught by Michael Clarke at mid-off off the bowling of Warne for 44, a big wicket. Pollock (17*) and Boje (6*) are at the crease. SA 232-7.

75th over: A maiden from the fiery Warne who is in pursuit of his umpteenth 5 wicket haul in international cricket. SA 232-7.

76th over: Brett Lee's best over of the day and its a maiden. SA 232-7

77th over: Great bowling from Shane Warne! Boje trapped in fron LBW! He goes for 6, SA 232-8!

The next 6 overs turn out to be the last, with SA bowled out for an unconvincing 256. Shane Warne finished with 5-56 with Nel the last man out for 3, (run out). S/cards below.

B.Dippenaar c. A Glichrist b. G.McGrath 63
G.Smith b. B. Lee 5
J.Kallis LBW b. S.Clark 37
H.Gibbs b. S. Warne 3
J.Rudolph b. S.Warne 45
A. de Villiers c. M Clarke b. S. Warne 44
M.Boucher c. A Gilchrist b . S Clark 4
S.Pollock not out 33
N.Boje LBW b. S Warne 6
M.Ntini c. A Glichrist b. S Warne 1
A. Nel run out 3

G.McGrath 1-36 off 17.4
B.Lee 1-56 off 15
S.Warne 5-56 off 21
S.Clark 2-86 off 26
M.Clarke 0-12 off 4

MN: Not the start that SA would of wanted with only 5 players reaching double figures on a batsman friendly pitch. Highlights included Boeta Dippenaar's 63 and 45 from Jacques Rudolph. Shaun Pollock was left stranded on 33*. Shane Warne was the pick of the Australian attack with 5-56. Now lets see who Australia deal with a tricky half hour period before the close of play.

Australia's Innings

MN: So the Aussies first innings is about to get underway and im sure the South Africans would want a wicket or two to put the pressure on the Aussies.

1st over: A solid first over frm the opening batsman, Hayden and Langer with 5 singles off it. Aus 5-0.

2nd over: The Australian openers are looking to get at the opening attack from Pollock and Ntini during these opening overs. Aus 10-0

9 more overs pass with no breakthrough for SA. There are 3 balls remaining of the day and Boje, the spinner, jogs up...

12th over: Langer is a gonner. What a dreadful shot straight down Rudolph's throat and sqaure leg and Langer goes for 29. Aus 44-1.

MN: So the end of an interesting days play, with South Africa making the breakthrough they so dearly wanted before the close of play. Langer is the man out for 29 and join us again tomorrow where Hayden and Ponting will resume on 44-1.

* NEXT DAY *

MN: Good morning and welcome to the 2nd day of the 1st test here between Australia and South Africa. Australia will resume this morning on 44-1 with Hayden (12) and the captain, Ponting (0) at the crease. Lets get to the action.

13th over: The first over of the day is an expensive on from Pollock as Ponting gets off the mark with an easy leg glance off the pads. Aus 51-1.

14th over: A wonderful straight drive from Hayden is the highlight of the over. Aus 56-1

15h over: A no-ball is the only run off the over. Aus 57-1.

16th over: A solid maiden from Boje is the only run off the over. Aus 57-1

17th over: Oh dear..... 10 off the over from Pollock including textbook cover drives from both Hayden and Ponting. Aus 67-1.

15 overs pass with no luck for the South Africans. Hayden (37*) and Ponting (34*) have moved past the 50 partnership with ease and are looking good at the crease. Aus are cruising on 104-1 off 32 overs.

33rd over: Back-to-back boundaries from Hayden puts him in touching distance of yet another half century. Aus 114-1.

34th over: Ponting survives an LBW shout which was just going down leg. He gets 3 more runs though and Aus progress to 117-1.

35th over: A couple of wild slogs from Hayden as Pollock looks for a breakthrough. Aus 119-1.

36th over: 50 for Matthew Hayden!! A fantastic innings so far, but he'll want 100. 5 wides also from Nel piles on the misery for SA. Aus are 126-1.

MN: Join us after the break to see if Australia can push home their advantage!

I had a problem where I couldn't get colours on Internet Explorer.
