Is Pathan India's next all rounder?

BUT...India must have faith in him even if he mucks up. He is young and needs to be shown that India really like him in the 'pinch hitting' role.

He's the best thing they've got though.

I know i was just saying he's not a true all rounder as if he say couldn't bowl and only bat he wouldn't be picked because of Indias strength in batting depth, Mongia, etc.

Pathans bowling record.

W AVG
2003-2004 AUS v IND 4 66.50
2003-2004 PAK v IND 12 28.50
2003-2004 IND v AUS 2 84.00
2004-2005 IND v SAF 3 29.67
2004-2005 BAN v IND 18 11.89
2004-2005 IND v PAK 6 68.33
2005-2006 ZIM v IND 21 11.29

It was a great innings by the young lad. Alhough I think he would do better if he actually curbed his attacking instincts a bit. He did skie a couple of shots, but was lucky they landed in no-mans land. On the other hand, maybe he plays so aggressively because thats what the team has told him ! So, this could be a very good move..

Take away the minnows and he averages around 60 with the ball.

Is this his Test record. Then it's pretty bad bowling against the better Test Nations. Only Pakistan and South Africa is a bit good.

I thought Pathan did better than that. Either way he looked very threatening with his reverse swing in Aus.

Anybody with a reverse swing is threatening to Australia. Hell, I can probably bowl 'em out with my tape-ball. :p

Yes, it was the team's tactic to be aggressive throughout the innings yesterday! I would say it was a brave move by Pathan to go that hammer tongs over Sri Lanka! Thats what you need to do. There is no danger in the conditions nor the wicket nor in the opposition's bowling. Why would you curb your attacking instincts?

Pathan came onto is own today, he showed he has it in him and I'm dam sure that he'll play a lot more innings like hat if he gets a chance up on the batting order, as for the Indian team they massacered a very good Sri lankan side, Altough I think Sri Lanka are weak at away series's and has never had good times in India ( exuse me if I am wrong). Murali too like Warne has'nt been that successful in India.

 Too bad not many can do it.
He also can bowl at a decent speed and hes left armed. Of course we all know Pathan can bowl.

Because he has the ability to bat for long periods, he has the technique. But these are early days. Maybe when hes a senior :p , he'll calm down. He could easily have been out for 30 or something had the skied shots landed nearer to the fielders.

Lots of batsmen rely on luck. Afridi 100%, Gayle, Sehwag and others. They too could have their shots skied in the fielders direction instead of empty spaces.

Of course Pathan will need to continue this effort up before being call a true all rounder. A few 100s in test match cricket would speed that process up.
