The High Definition discussion thread!

I've had Sky HD in various forms for a year now. The picture quality is stunning. And more and more things are in HD!

The BBC will show most of Euro 2008 and Wimbledon this year in HD, ITV will launch an HD channel before the Euro 2008 finals. Sky Sports launched "Sky Sports HD 3" last month.

I've had a Phillips 26" HD Tv in my room for a good year now and i have to say, gaming is far, far more fun in HD, and don't know how i coped without it, games look awful in SD, and films don't look much better. I'll be getting Sky HD in my room when I move house so that'll be awesome. HD is awesome.

Keeping up with the Jones'. I already have Sky HD in my room. :D

We've got a 40 inch HD TV with Sky HD downstairs, with a PS3 connected to it, and I have a 26 inch HD TV with Sky HD in my room, with the Xbox 360 connected to it!

There's only need of a Wii there... that would fill it. :p

But I don't know how long will it take in India for HD to even ARRIVE!

I have to agree with this thread, I got a Panasinic Sierra 42" and it's just amazing.

I'll be getting a 26" HDTV for my room soon with the 360 with it. Don't have Sky HD or anything like that but I'm not arsed tbh.

I'm not that bothered by HD, I have a HDTV but personally I think SD picture quality is fine on digital tv as it is.

For those in the UK who don't have sky, a freeview HD service will be launched next year (I think).

Freesat HD is on now, with BBC HD currently being the only channel but ITV and Four are planning on launching channels in the coming year on Freesat/Sky with Freeview coming some time next year. Not that anyone will worry about it, but Five on Freeview will probably only come after analogue switch off.

As for me, I have essentially a Media Centre PC, only without Windows Media Center. I can watch analogue, SD or HD, but watch SD most of the time, except for native HD content (which many of the shows I watch aren't) as I think the upscaler on my computer does as good of a job as their encoders and it isn't worth the extra strain it takes on my CPU to decode HD. However when it is native HD (that is filmed in HD) it is brilliant. HD sport is especially fantastic, unfortunately that is fairly scarce here, I watched Nascar in HD once, it almost made me ignore how bad it is with the picture quality, contrast that to the very SD Formula 1 and it is quite sad to see.

For those who care, in Australia we have had pretty much the reverse of Britain, we have had HD on Free to Air Digital since Digital started in 2001, but Foxtel/Austar (our version of Sky) are only starting HD this year (theoretically in the coming months). Though on the other hand we only have 11 different channels. None of this section of the post applies to people who don't get TV from a major capital city.

Yeah our FTA channels have just started doing different shows on their HD channels (as opposed to their SD channels). Australia rules.

But as for the quality, I honestly don't notice that much of a difference, and I have an HD TV. Sound quality however is noticeably better.

I don't know about Freesat, but Channel 4 HD has been on Sky for some months. I have only seen films on there actually in high definition though.

The HD channels available in Britain:

Channel 4 HD
BBC HD
Sky One HD
Sky Arts HD
Luxe TV HD
Sky Premiere HD
Sky Screen 1 HD
Sky Screen 2 HD
Sky Sports HD 1
Sky Sports HD 2
Sky Sports HD 3
Rush HD
Discovery HD
National Geographic HD
History HD
Sky Box Office HD 1
Sky Box Office HD 2

The list is only going to get bigger.

moved my ps3 downstairs onto the HD tv. Only now having put it back upstairs have I realised how much better the picture is.

Life is definatley better in HD, that's for sure. Got this Friday for my bedroom and it's hooked up to my Xbox 360 via a VGA HD cable. Looks stunning.
