He just needs work. England need to stick loyal to a handful of players so they can settle. He can;t be expected to be great every test. Players have bad series.
Exactly, let us not forget how many chances Jones dropped in his first 12-18 months.
I do find it funny how people are questioning his place, yes he has a technical fault, but Jones did to, in fact his was probably worse, I seem to remember him having butter fingers behind the stumps for a while.
You all know I'll back Prior till the end of his career - hopefully with England and very successful - I know he's good enough, he's got a great team behind him (on the pitch and in the dressing room). He has the mentality to improve (I laughed when Athers suggested the papers have got to him and it's a sign he won't cope in the future). His runs have been down a little in this series, he has had a couple of jaffers, but vs the WI he was superb. We gave Jones over 2 years, why not the same with Prior? Especially when he has, imo, much more potential than Jones.
What are they going to do? It's the last test of the summer so nothing is going to change for the minute.
Come the winter tour squad we'll find out who the back keeper is going to be and I'm they will both told to go out and fight for the place, winner takes all.
My only worry is that Moores is seemingly a Prior fan (Sussex links) and may be a little biased when it comes to his selection.
Interesting to hear the comments from Willis, I sure can't find 15 better keepers unless he's included Russell, Knott etc.
Willis over exaggerates, always has done.
Prior is a much better player than Nixon, plus if we did pick Nixon what happens in 2-3 years when he retires? We'll have gone nowhere. As for Moores and his Sussex links, well in football we see managers come and go and take players/staff with them, he obviously thinks he's good enough and he has to be given a chance due to his form in the County circuit for the last 3-4 seasons where he has been the best keeper in the country. People have jumped on a footwork fault and have somehow jumped to the conclusion that he should be dropped, despite being our 3rd best batsman this summer behind KP and Vaughan. Work with him, don't drop him.
