You said "the present is rubbish", Prior is the present Wicket-Keeper is he not ? So what did you mean by that ?

Dear oh dear - I meant, not directly relating to England, that people so often look towards the future rather than taking care of the present, what's happening right now. That really bugs me and I raised that point.

Can I also remind you that Prior dropped Jaffer at Lords in a very similar fashion? Make what you want out of that, but it's his second drop not first, this series.

Most teams now seem to have a settled keeper. India have two who could do the job, SA, Sri Lanka, Australia, Windies, Bangladesh all have good keepers. I'm not sure about Kamran Akmal though - he's poor from what I've seen. Maybe he's improved. For the moment I'd say stick with Prior. If he drops two or more balls in the next few matches, drop him.

What are they going to do? It's the last test of the summer so nothing is going to change for the minute.

Come the winter tour squad we'll find out who the back keeper is going to be and I'm they will both told to go out and fight for the place, winner takes all.

My only worry is that Moores is seemingly a Prior fan (Sussex links) and may be a little biased when it comes to his selection.

Interesting to hear the comments from Willis, I sure can't find 15 better keepers unless he's included Russell, Knott etc.

He just needs work. England need to stick loyal to a handful of players so they can settle. He can;t be expected to be great every test. Players have bad series.

Exactly, let us not forget how many chances Jones dropped in his first 12-18 months.

I do find it funny how people are questioning his place, yes he has a technical fault, but Jones did to, in fact his was probably worse, I seem to remember him having butter fingers behind the stumps for a while.

You all know I'll back Prior till the end of his career - hopefully with England and very successful - I know he's good enough, he's got a great team behind him (on the pitch and in the dressing room). He has the mentality to improve (I laughed when Athers suggested the papers have got to him and it's a sign he won't cope in the future). His runs have been down a little in this series, he has had a couple of jaffers, but vs the WI he was superb. We gave Jones over 2 years, why not the same with Prior? Especially when he has, imo, much more potential than Jones.

Willis over exaggerates, always has done.

Prior is a much better player than Nixon, plus if we did pick Nixon what happens in 2-3 years when he retires? We'll have gone nowhere. As for Moores and his Sussex links, well in football we see managers come and go and take players/staff with them, he obviously thinks he's good enough and he has to be given a chance due to his form in the County circuit for the last 3-4 seasons where he has been the best keeper in the country. People have jumped on a footwork fault and have somehow jumped to the conclusion that he should be dropped, despite being our 3rd best batsman this summer behind KP and Vaughan. Work with him, don't drop him.

FFS, everytime i back someone up they go and screw it up. Prior just went for a catch that would have been Strauss's, both Laxman and Tendulkar dropped before reaching 50, if they reach 3 figures i would expect alot of flak in Prior's direction. SUch a shame.

Yeah, well it's typical, if a keeper makes two bad mistakes in a row, his position is questioned.

This time his problem was thinking it was his, his footwork was technically correct this time, he just went for 1st slips catch. With Stewie as a mentor he'll be fine.

I would like to point out, that this thread is no my personal views, but the views of Sky commentators, and other television presenters...

Personally i think Prior has done a fine job, and batted magnificantly, so for now keep him in there.

Damn, I had just done a big post comparing this seasons stats between Nixon, Ambrose, Read an Jones and I clicked back on this page as opposed to the one on CricInfo.

Anyway, it said that Ambrose and Read had had the best seasons, Nixon was very good and Jones has had a couple of hundreds, but not as good as I thought he had been (averages only 33 this season). Ambrose had had 2 OD hundreds, but I think he bats higher than the others.

Whoever goes with Prior on the winter tours (a topic on SkySports today) will be interesting, Prior is a dead cert barring injury. You'd expect Nixon would be No2 but Ambrose has been very impressive. He can keep too, good keeper.

Willis is a cynical old fart.

He always finds something to moan about.

He was having a field day in Australia.

Hmm... Prior looks to have gone from low to low in this series, though probably mainly due to confidence and media attention. I originally voted no, but I would change my vote to "maybe" now. I would like to see a little bit more of him to see if he is actually useful with the bat.

He was chosen because he can bat. We haven't even seen him bat yet in this match.

I know he was chosen because he can bat. Whether his batting is up to test match standard is still debatable because I think he can potentially cause far more harm with the gloves than good with the bat. He's not looked anything special so far in this series though he was outdone by some absolute beauties.

yeah i agree, he hasnt 'got himself out' yet, so i wouldnt go down on him like a ton of bricks. he was done by a jaffer by arpy and a good length ball by kumble at nottingham

Then again Dhoni hasn't looked fantastic either in this series, keeping wise. Especially a trent bridge, he couldn't stop anything, mainly due to the swing. Maybe he's just not used to the conditions here.
