Robin Singh: Newly appointed Mumbai Indians head coach

Former India all-rounder Robin Singh was on Tuesday appointed as the new chief coach of the Mumbai Indians outfit for the 2009-10 season while ex-pacer Paras Mhambrey has been named as his deputy. South African Jonty Rhodes, one of the best fielders the world has ever seen, would continue his association with the Indian Premier League team as a fielding coach, an MI media release said.

Former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock, who has been an integral part of the squad for the last two years, would also continue to contribute his vast cricketing knowledge and international experience for its benefit, the release said. The other members of the support staff of Mumbai Indians include Praveen Amre, Nitin Patel, Dhananjay, Ramji Srinivasan and Donald Shugg.

The team has organised a short five-day camp starting here today with 70 players, including captain Chris Martin taking part. Commenting on the camp, Nita Ambani of Mumbai Indians said it would provide an opportunity for the players and the support staff to interact with one another. "We are excited about the camp for Mumbai Indians. Many young players associated with Mumbai Indians are expected to participate in the camp. The camp presents a good opportunity for the players and support staff to interact with each other," she said.

Mumbai Indians bag Madan and Binny

Chandan Madan scores a century for Air India Blue

Mumbai Indians have given one year IPL contracts to the Punjab wicketkeeper-batsman Chandan Madan(26) and Karnataka allrounder Stuart Binny(25), the son of former India allrounder Roger Binny.

Chandan Madan was rewarded with an IPL contract with the Mumbai Indians after his Man-of-the-Series performance in the recent BCCI Corporate Trophy. Madan, opened the batting for Air India Blue and was instrumental in taking them to the finals, making two half-centuries and a 114 in his three innings to top the tournament scoring chart.

"I am really excited to be in the same team which has great players like Sachin Tendulkar, JP Duminy and Sanath Jayasurya," Madan told the Times of India. "The Corporate tournament was such a big platform for a cricketer like me. It featured big names and even the national selectors were watching the players."

On the other hand, Stuart Binny has plenty of Twenty20 experience after two seasons with the unofficial ICL. His accurate medium-pacers and big-hitting were pivotal to the Hyderabad Heroes' campaigns, establishing Binny as one of the leading allrounders in the league. The reputation he built in the unofficial league made him one of the most sought-after players in the Karnataka Premier League, where he was the second-most expensive buy.

Nice start mate- just hope you get to finish this off.
As an added incentive: I bet you $100,000 vcash you don't get around to finishing this off properly, right up to the final.
(You're not allowed to do a few games with decent coverage, and then just just post scorecards and tiny reviews for the rest of the games)
How about it? :p

Mills pulls out of IPL 2010

25swuau.jpg

Kyle Mills injured and will miss the IPL

New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Mills, who is rehabilitating after twin surgeries on shoulder and knee, has decided to skip this year's Indian Premier League. Mills, who played for Mumbai Indians last year in the cash-rich Twenty20 league, has made his mind against touring India this time to take part in the showpiece event, a report said.

"There will be no Indian Premier League cricket for Kyle Mills this year but he continues to make steady progress towards his goal of playing for the Black Caps at the next Twenty20 World Cup in the Caribbean, starting late April," New Zealand Herald reported. "While he won't be able to revisit his $150,000 contract with the Mumbai Indians in 2010, Mills is hopeful it might open an avenue with the John Bracewell-coached (English county side) Gloucestershire," the report said.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old bowler was optimistic about his fast recovery. "The knee's fine. I'm back cycling to try to strengthen it but my shoulder is taking a bit more time to heal. That's to be expected. The first eight weeks, I've had to take it easier on my shoulder but there's more improvement in it now," Mills said.

In other news, Mumbai Indians have decided to terminate the contract of former Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful, which means they will be having two slots avaliable for upcoming auction. The Mumbai Indians bought the Bangladeshi batsman for his base price of $75,000, but he only played one game, scoring just 2 runs.

Very good start to this one. I love your writing really. It's good to see Ashraful's contract is terminated as he doesn't fit into the playing XI with the rule of only 4 foreign players allowed. Good Luck to Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai Indians buy Kieron Pollard

2i0b2f4.jpg

Kieron Pollard becomes most expensive player

West India's big hitting allrounder Kieron Pollard became the first, and perhaps most expensive, purchase of the Indian Premier League player auction Tuesday. Pollard, 22, will join the Mumbai Indians team after attracting an undisclosed winning fee, far exceeding his price of $750,000.

The first player to be put up for the auction was of Pakistan's Shahid Afridi, but he failed to attract a bid leaving him unsold. Afridi had a base price of $250,000. Pollard was also the first player purchase to be decided by the newly introduced tiebreaker rule after four franchises _ Mumbai, the Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Kolkata Kinght Riders each bid $750,000.

The four bidders were asked to make silent bids on paper within five minutes. IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi received the bids and made the announcement. The amount exceeding the base price and four-way tie was not disclosed. The excess money, more than the franchisees limit of $750,000 spending will go to IPL and not the player.

New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond was the second expensive player after Kieron Pollard at the third IPL auction in Mumbai. Like Pollard, he to fetched the maximum possible bid of $750,000 plus the undisclossed amount. Pollard's West Indies team mate and fast bowler Kemar Roach was the biggest surprise as he was bagged by the Deccan Chargers for $720,000 followed by Wayne Parnell joining Delhi Daredevils for $610,000. No Pakistani players were signed by any of the franchises.

Sold players: Kieron Pollard (Mumbai, 750,000+), Shane Bond (Kolkata, 750,000+), Kemar Roach (Deccan, 720,000), Wayne Parnell (Delhi, 610,000), Mohammad Kaif (Punjab, 250,000), Eoin Morgan (Bangalore, 220,000), Damien Martyn (Rajasthan, 100,000), Justin Kemp (Chennai, 100,000), Thissara Perera (Chennai, 50,000), Adam Voges (Rajasthan, 50,000), Yusuf Abdulla (Punjab, 50,000)
