Brendon McCullum hits Fidel Edwards for a huge six

A quick-fire half century by Brendon McCullum(67) and an unbeaten 48 by Cheteshwar Pujara guided Shah Rukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders to a comfortable seven wicket victory over defending champions Deccan Chargers in the season opener at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma(42) top scored for the season two champions, as his partnership along with Andrew Symonds(38) helped the Chargers post a respectable total of 151 in their 20 overs, with Ishant Sharma(2/25) being the pick of the bowlers for the Knight Riders.

I think it will be good if you post only Mumbai's matches in detail......Or else you may lose interest from the story........

Although there's not much to write, you should aim to write more for the match review, good job anyhow

I will be writing this much for all other matches, while for all Mumbai Indians matches the writing will be more...;)

Mumbai Indians off to a flyer

Sachin Tendulkar smashes Kamran Khan through the offside

A magnificent century from the Rajasthan Royals' Graeme Smith counted for nothing as Mumbai Indians got their Indian Premier League 2010 campaign off to a winning start at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

The hosts successfully chased down 188 with the loss of just two wickets, although victory was tempered by a wrist injury to skipper Sachin Tendulkar. The right-hander was hit by the first ball of the Mumbai Indians' reply by Kamran Khan but batted through the pain to make 86 from 61 balls.

Although it had initially been feared that his tournament could be over almost as soon as it had started, a scan later revealed that Tendulkar had not suffered a break. It was the new signing Chandan Madan who led the way with 94 from 56 balls, with Sachin Tendulkar in a 187 run partnership as the hosts eased home with eight wickets in hand. The partnership overtook that of Langer and Cameron White as the most successful in Twenty20 history - the two Somerset players previously sharing a stand of 186 against Gloucestershire in the Twenty20 Cup.

But it was Graeme Smith who initiated the aerial bombardment with Indian Premier League's first century ofthe season, making 115 off just 68 balls and staying not out - including five fours and eight sixes - as the season one champions made a total 187 for two. Smith put on an opening stand of 29 off 20 balls with Australian allrounder Shane Watson as Mumbai Indians' attack was smashed for three overs without success.

With Smith providing fireworks at the other end, other Rajasthan Royals batsman preferred a more conservative approach and Shane Watson hit just one boundary in his 9 before being clean bowled off Zaheer Khan. But Smith was in belligerent form, with a total of thirteen boundaries.

Swapnil Asnodkar who replaced Shane Watson, was sent back a couple of overs later by Zaheer Khan when he was given lbw by the umpire. Yusuf Pathan along with Graeme Smith smashed the Mumbai Indian bowlers to all parts of the ground, with he himself scoring 44 of 34 balls. Mumbai Indians' bowlers then tried with a degree of success to contain the damage, with just 37 runs coming off the final five overs.

And that momentum proved key as the Rajasthan Royal bowlers struggled and were hit all over the ground by Indian's greatest batsman ever - Sachin Tendulkar and his new partner - Chandan Madan. Madan was dropped twice on the boundary while Tendulkar was also spilled by Ravindra Jadeja as the Rajasthan Royals' poor fielding came to the fore.

Shane Warne's field-placing and poor bowling by the youngster Kamran Khan must be questioned as the left handed fast bowler went for 56 in his four overs picking the wicket of Chandan Madan in the last over. Jean-Paul Duminy scored the winning runs of the last ball of the innings.

Novices in Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir and an expert in Daniel Vettori led Delhi Daredevils to victory in their first match of the season against hosts Kings XI Punjab at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium. Sehwag along with his opening partner and skipper Gautam Gambhir(88 no) set up a massive total with 93 of 60 balls before Daniel Vettori took two wickets as they won by 43 runs in front of an energetic crowd.

McCullum and Gayle star in Knight Riders' victory

Brendon McCullum smashes Jacques Kallis for a six

The Kolkata bowlers bowled canny spells to set the game up, and despite a swashbuckling 53 from Ross Taylor, it was Kolkata Knight Riders that romped to an eight-wicket victory at the Eden Gardens to maintain their perfect record in the competition, and illustrate just why they are so highly favoured to go all the way. Once again, it was Brendon McCullum that blazed the trail with a punishing 53-ball 54, and there was a delightful cameo of 50 at the top from Chris Gayle as last season's losing finalist Royal Challengers Bangalore were contemptuously swept aside.

Easy Win for the KKR in the end. McCullum is in great form and they look like the team to beat in only the 2 games they have played. Good bowling from Bond, and despite Taylors heroics 153 isnt a defendable score IMO
