D/L is an odd thing. Doesn't seem to make any sense at all.

That was a great match though, just ruined by the rain and D/L.

I think Broad should come in for Jordan, who is just to erratic and Taylor for Billings. I hadn't seen Billings play until the last 2 games, and I don't rate him on those performances. I also think Butler should be above Stokes in the order.

Looking forward to the next match now. Its been a long time since I've enjoyed England ODI cricket.

The Broad vs Jordan battle is interesting. I've kind of been in the camp that says 'just save Broad and Anderson for tests'. However, Broad probably would give us more control than Jordan right now. In time, I think Jordan could develop into a good power play bowler, as he's able to get his Yorkers in normally. He's also a fantastic fielder and can be destructive batting down the order. I think he's worth sticking with for a while, but he'll probably need to be replaced in this series, given that he looked pretty badly injured. Chris Woakes is another who could take that bowling all rounder slot when he's fit again.

Would you be bringing in Taylor for Billings and batting him at 7? Wouldn't see the point in that. May as we'll stick with Billings or go with Willey.

Exactly, the issue with bringing in Taylor is that you would need to shift people down the order. For example, Morgan (who is now in great form) and at least Stokes, if not Buttler. It just unsettles the balance for me. I think the only change we'll make is Willey in for Jordan. Which I think is good, because it gives us a chance to see what the left arm variation can do. Maybe switch Plunkett to opening the bowling, just to take a bit of pressure off Willey.

I hope they stick with Billings and I think they will. He deserves at least this series to show what he can do.

Just thought I'd make the point that in Taylor's 5 innings for Notts this season he's batted at 5 three times, 6 once and 7 once.

Sticking Willey in at 8 could end up being another Stokes situation all over again.

Yep. I think you want Willey in at 7 if he's to make a proper impact.

Does Taylor bat so low for Notts because he's not one of their best 5 t20 batters? In 50 cricket he'll bat 3 or 4 for them. I don't think we need to mess England's top 6 around in this series, so as much as I rate Taylor, he misses out for a while. Good to have people like Taylor, Vince and Ballance waiting for a call.

Lads I've enjoyed watching England play One Day cricket twice this week

That feels very odd to say

e: Also I'm going to Durham next Saturday, and based on these two games it should be a cracker; although knowing my luck it'll rain
Glad to see you enjoyed it, must be better than watching Scotland.

Just read they've called up Overton from Somerset, so Broad looks like he's out of the picture, which is stupid because his experience would be great in this team. I think Woakes will struggle this summer, as he's not played much, but I am a big fan of his and I reckon he'll come in for Plunkett, though I think Plunkett should stay.

I've only ever seen Jordan have 1 or 2 good knocks, most of the time he's not performed when I've watched him.

I'd have Taylor at 6 and move Butler to 5, Stokes at 7. Stokes isn't as great as everyne is making out, but would do a good job at 7 in my opinion. Rashid is also a very good batsmen, so we'd bat pretty deep and as we saw yesterday, it never hurts to have big hitters down the order.

Taylor has already missed out for long enough. He's better than Billings and Roy, so deserves to be in the team. You can easily open with Butler and swap things around a bit. Butler could open because he doesn't need time to get in and he'd get some good runs in the first Powerplay.

That doesn't make much sense to me. Buttler is very good at scoring boundaries when the field is out (just like Morgan) that's a specialist skill. Not everyone can do it. Whereas there are more people who can do that in the Powerplay overs at the start of the game. You might gain a small amount with having him up the order, but you'd lose that in the later overs. Makes it pretty pointless to me. He's starting to perform well, why change that?

If you look at New Zealand and McCullum he is a great example of the modern batsman he can open, play anywhere in that top six in Test and ODI plus can be a wicket keeper. Buttler has the most potential out of the England team to become that batsman for England. Root will make a great number 3.

Become that batsman? Scoring a quick 20 or 30 and then getting out? There are plenty of players around County Cricket who can do that. We need a guy to finish the innings off.

There's been a lot less players in the style of Michael Bevan than there has been like an Adam Gilchrist say. Buttler is a valuable commodity down the order. When we have the likes of Hales and Moeen Ali who can open, it's stupid to move a player like Buttler up the order.

Ha, sorry. I thought we were having a serious discussion. I didn't realise you were just joking about. My apologies.
I thought we were then your ambition is to leave a high potential batsman down the order just to hit a few boundaries and finish off an innings. Why can’t Morgan or Stokes do this or someone like Bopara?
