Woodcock is good at containing batsmen and is handy withe the bat. Kinda like our version of yardy. As the third spin option, he is probably the best option who has international experience.

Yeah, he's there as spinning cover, his batting just a bonus.

Considering how poorly Jamie How performed in India, it's surprising he finds a spot in the squad. Decent squad overall although I can still see NZs bowling attack getting smashed to all parts.

Ok first of all Williamson will be great in the future for us, but not now. He should just be playing test cricket where he doesn't have pressure to score. I mean come on his SR in ODIs so far is 60 and its not going to get any easier at a world cup.

How is an absolute shocker. lol at Greatbatch when asked about How as the back up keeper, and he said hes been working really hard at it the last week, ffs is our selectors on crack or something? How has already shown his inability with batting in the ODIs in India. Hes another one who doesn't score quick enough. McGlashan would have been a better pick as a specialist batsman.

Woodcock, should not even have been in the 30 man squad. I've seen a fair bit of him in club cricket and for Wellington over the years and this joker is not up to it. You can even go check out his list A records if you want.

I just really hope we don't have any major injuries. The first XI is fine, but our cover is pretty woeful. Rob Nicol could be quite disappointed, he really could have been a like for like replacement for Williamson. Better bowler, batting and fielding wont be as good but he can score quicker. I can live with Williamsons selection somewhat but not at all the other two.

How has kept once before

But I agree that McGlashan would have been a better choice due to being in much better form.

Williamson is good against spin which you're bound to encounter in the subcontinent and I think that had a part to play in his selection.

This season Woodcock has been pretty good with the ball, and he won't play unless Vettori or McCullum get injured, because Williamson, and Guptill to a lesser extent can bowl.

Like I said Williamson is okay, but How and Woodcock should not be there. It shouldn't really matter anyway with Woodcock because as you said he'll only play if Vettori and McCullum are injured. How will most certainly get a game, I would think the way McCullums back is. The only logical explanation I can think of How being selected is that him and Guptill might open with McCullum moving down. But that realistically wont happen so it beats me why he is there..

The commentators were talking about Ryder moving down and Guptill opening. Not sure where everyone would fit then.

McCullum
Guptill
Styris
Taylor
Ryder
Franklin
Vettori
Oram
McCullum
Mills
Southee

I guess.

That doesn't look too bad, although Im not sure about Styris at three, but then if you are going to move Ryder down then he would have to bat three. It's strange how Oram is regarded these days as a bowler first. I'd kind of like to see him ahead of Vettori, but then he would be quite ideal for later on in the innings, so I suppose number 8 wouldn't be too bad. I'm quite staggered by the amount of batting we have though. Mills and Southee could definitely be solid number 8s.

Styris wants to bat at four for New Zealand, he's stated that, so I assume Taylor will move up to three.

Not a good day for Oram and How in domestic cricket, Woodcock however got four wickets.

That sums it up for me. The rest of the squad is understandable good on NZ for picking the 3 spinners and then you have the part timers of Williamson.

I'm thinking about putting a lazy $20 on NZ to win the damn thing. I probably sound crazy but I have a good feeling :p

McCullum
Guptill
Styris
Taylor
Ryder
Franklin
Vettori
Oram
McCullum
Mills
Southee
You could reverse that batting order and it wouldn't be that much worse! I think the key is Mills and Southee bowling well. Oram, Vettori, McCullum and Styris are all good economical bowlers so if Mills and Southee do their job and pick up the early wickets that bowling attack could restrict some teams to some pretty low scores.
