ODI should be scrapped

You don't have a fortune as a cricket fan. Test cricket is the best.

Peoples busy here giving their opinion without realizing the prospect of future. what a joke :lol

Everything is not about keeping records or classic touch ,,,For a game It needs to get produce money and crowd interest at average and T20 does it very well

with its crass money-making underpinning, is a game that suits our times. It appeals to a population without patience, an audience permanently distracted by flashing lights, loud music and extravagant personalities.

Test cricket wont survive , only reality

And there's a huge difference between 'money' and 'all the money'. Test cricket will survive the same way other sports with far less interest survive - a passionate fan base who want to see their favourite sport in it's superior form.

Yes - T20 cricket right now is the biggest money earner for cricket - that doesn't mean the other forms of the game are not viable. And when you ask cricketers what form of the game they prefer - it is near universally Test Cricket, and for the survival of test cricket, that is literally all that matters. The best cricketers in the world want to play the long form of the game.

That doesn't mean there's anything bad about T20, it can coexist with Test cricket, just as one day cricket has managed to do.

Just found the most mindful comment on this thread:cheers . came to agree about few of my points, nice to see that

What for those, will seek early retirement from test cricket?

There are very few players who would be guaranteed test selections that have or would retire to play T20, and very few that would be considered too early. A handful of West Indian players have - but that's a deeper cricket governance issue.

The only reason the IPL has the quality of players it currently has is because players don't need to choose - there's a window in the test calendar for the IPL.

Side note: Paywalls are the #1 proven way to kill a sport. How many Test matches can you watch for free on TV in any country?

Yes , one of the main reason why peoples do not watch test cricket now days
I'm not aware of any country where Test cricket is only available on Pay TV, and T20 and One Day is available on free TV. It is not a 'test cricket' thing, it is cricket boards - particularly the ECB - that will prioritise the extra money that Pay TV exclusive rights deals bring them over the health of the sport.

While T20 is an undeniable spectacle, it encourages batsmen to be more crude and also makes redundant the specialist batting positions that have been developed in the 50 over format. ODI cricket is more conducive to batsmen taking their time and getting in to play masterful strokes which are at least as joyful to watch as a ball being bludgeoned into row Z.
I fear that T20 cricket as the sole OD format would breed a new generation of batsmen that bank on just getting bat on ball in order to keep the scoreboard ticking, which undermines the principles on which cricket has been built upon, just my opinion though.

T20 is also largely a game of cameos I feel, either that or it takes just a couple of individual performances to turn a match on its head. That is not inherently a bad thing but relying solely on the performances of your main player(s) is.
