Pakistan v West Indies - DMC Trophy, 1st One Day International - update

The West Indies have collapsed due to a rash of irresponsible strokes and now seem certain to lose this match. Wallace struck the first ball of the match for six but then chipped an easy catch to midwicket attempting the same shot, Powell was needlessly run out at the bowlers end after setting off late for a second run, and Hinds was caught at square leg for a duck when he played too early at a Razzaq delivery. Lara struck the first 3 balls he faced for six over square leg before falling in an identical fashion to Hinds. Jacobs fell to Azhar Mahmood's first delivery when he skied a catch to fine leg to leave the West Indies in the hopeless position of 69/5 and the contest seemingly over. Chanderpaul and Reifer have quietly attempted to repair the damage with a responsible partnership but the run rate required is rising all the time and it will take an amazing performance from here for the West Indies to achieve victory.

Pakistan v West Indies - DMC Trophy, 1st One Day International - update

Chanderpaul and Reifer have added an unbroken partnership of 76* to give the West Indies some hope, but just as Chanderpaul began to accelerate, Reifer became hopelessly bogged down against Wasim and Saqlain as they gave away just 6 runs between them in the last 2 overs before drinks to send the run rate required sky rocketing to above 20 runs per over. Chanderpaul slog swept Saqlain for consecutive sixes to give the chase some momentum before he was almost bowled when he was deceived by the doosra when attempting a cut shot. With the match slipping away and big hitter Gibson still in the hutch, Lara would be wise to send a message to Reifer to either hit out or get out because he is doing his team and himself no favours with his laborious batting. Chanderpaul reached his half century of 26 balls and the ease in which he has gathered his runs by merely playing sensibly and putting away the occasional bad ball has shown that the West Indies top order's attack at all costs approach was foolhardy to say the least.

West Indies - 145/5 (13 overs)

Pakistan v West Indies - DMC Trophy, 1st One Day International - Pakistan win by 111 runs.

The West Indies innings ended as it had begun, with the loss of 5 quick wickets, as they were bundled out for 182 to lose the match by 111 runs. Chanderpaul slog swept a ball to deep midwicket and was held on the boundary, only for the fielder to step over the rope as he was completing the catch and turn it into a six. Next ball Chanderpaul attempted the same shot but was deceived by a quicker ball from Saqlain and was caught easily at mid wicket. Gibson belted the first ball he faced for six but perished attempting another, caught at mid wicket to give Razzaq his third victim. Rose was then caught at mid wicket for a 4 ball duck off Saqlain to complete a forgettable match in which he also conceded 56 off his 3 overs without a wicket. With no hope of victory, Reifer attempted to play out time by taking few risks, but after edging a cut shot off Wasim for his first boundary he was then taking brilliantly by Moin, who dived to high and to his left and clung on one handed at full stretch to snaffle an attempted back foot glide to third man. King was the last to go as he flicked one off his pads straight to square leg to hand Wasim a deserved 3rd scalp. It was an excellent allround bowling performance by Pakistan from start to finish to match their fine effort with the bat. Saeed Anwar was named man of the match for his brilliant century, an innings which put Pakistan in a dominant position that they never relinquished.

Pakistan v West Indies - DMC Trophy, 1st One Day International - Match Summary

A brilliant century by Saeed Anwar and a well paced innings from Shadab Kabir laid the foundations for a big total for Pakistan as they shared a 137 run partnership for the 2nd wicket off 9.2 overs. The middle order all chipped in with entertaining cameos and left the West Indies a victory target of 294, a total which they never looked like achieving after slumping to 69/5 in the 5th over. A partnership of 84 for the 6th wicket between Chanderpaul and Reifer merely delayed the inevitable and the West Indies were eventually bowled out for a disappointing 182 to lose by 111 runs. Wasim Akram and Abdul Razzaq were the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets apiece and Saqlain Mushtaq also bowled well on a pitch which gave him little assistance. The West Indies seem certain to make changes for the 2nd match and would be wise to push the experienced Lara and Chanderpaul further up the batting order after their experimental batting lineup failed to click in this game.

Pakistan 293/6 off 20 overs (Saaed Anwar 100, Salim Elahi 24, Shadab Kabir 79, Yousuf Youhana 34, Moin Khan 20, Azhar Mahmood 20*; R.King 2-54, O.Gibson 2-54)
beat
West Indies all out 182 off 19 overs (R.Jacobs 23, S.Chanderpaul 62, F.Reifer 38; Wasim Akram 3-41, Abdul Razzaq 3-32, Saqlain Mushtaq 2-41)
by 111 runs.
Man of the match: Saeed Anwar.

I'm only going to post updates at the end of each innings from here on because I seem to spend more time posting updates than actually playing the game. Less regular updates will allow me to complete my matches much quicker and will make my story easier to read for those following it because they will spend less time wading through endless amounts of text and statistics. I will also have time to play the matches not involving Pakistan in tournaments like the Champions Trophy and the World Cup. I can see the point in regular updates when you are playing 50 over matches and Tests with 90 overs a day but as I am playing in a sort of "Arcade Cricket on Amphetamines" way I will have less regular updates from now on.

Pakistan v West Indies - DMC Trophy, 2nd One Day International - update

The West Indies lost wickets steadily throughout their innings but managed to post an average sized total on a wicket that is assisting the spinners. Chanderpaul went first ball, playing to early and hitting a catch to square leg. Wallace and Reifer then compiled a steady partnership but after after a few successful lofted strokes both fell to catches at square leg from attempted big hits. Powell looked good for a while before skying a catch to fine leg. Lara played the spinners well, slog sweeping 4 sixes agianst the spin before being bowled by a quicker arm ball attempting another. Roberts struggled with his timing but glanced a couple of his hip for 4 before being caught at mid wicket. Jacobs was yorked and Gibson caught at square leg in the final over. The highlight of the innings was a brilliant 56* off only 13 balls with 8 sixes, reaching his 50 off just 6 balls, as he repeatedley swung fall balls over the leg side boundary. Waqar bowled well throughout the innings to take 3 wickets while the disappointing Razzaq went for 37 in his final over including 5 wides and 5 sixes from Gayle.

Pakistan v West Indies - DMC Trophy, 2nd One Day International - Pakistan innings

Pakistan were given a good start by left handed openers Saeed Anwar and Shadab Kabir who maintained their good form in an opening stand of 79 in 6.1 overs. Shadab was the first to go when he slog swept Powell's first ball to mid wicket. Saeed was out after another fine aggressive innings when he edged behind attempting a square drive off a quicker Chanderpaul delivery. Hasan Raza didn't last long and when he was out second ball slog sweeping to mid wicket it seemed like the match was headed for a close finish with the score at 115/3 off 9.5 overs and 113 required from 10.1. But Inzamam and Yousuf Youhana finished things off with an excellent unbeaten partnership of 116 in 5.5 overs of fine hitting and the close finish never materialised. Inzamam and Saeed had both reached 50 off 20 balls. The experiment of opening the bowling with the off spin of Gayle proved to be a failure.

Pakistan - 231/3 off 16 overs

Pakistan v West Indies - DMC Trophy, 3rd One Day International at Faisalabad - West Indies Innings

The West Indies openers added 44 for the first wicket before Chanderpaul was caught at square leg off debutant Shabbir Ahmed after a scratchy innings. Wallace looked in good form before falling 2 balls later in similar fashion off the bowling of Azhar Mahmood. Reifer failed for the first time in the series when he too hit a catch to square leg to give Shabbir his second wicket. Hinds struggled before mistiming a slog sweep to mid wicket to leave the scoreboard reading 74/4 in the 7th over. Lara and Powell then repaired some of the damage as they added 50 in 2.3 overs before Powell was bowled as he attempted cut and was beaten by a Mushtaq Ahmed flipper. Gayle then heaved his first ball straight to square leg to give Mushtaq hisn second wicket. Roberts hit a couple of nice boundaries before falling lbw as he attempted to cut a flipper, and then Jacobs was out after a steady innings to leave the West Indies at 178/8 in the 15th over and in danger of not batting out their full quota. Lara and a determined Gibson then added a useful 34 before Lara was out when he slog swept a Saqlain Mushtaq delivery to square leg to end a well paced innings that had held the team together with wickets falling at the other end. Gibson was caught at square leg trying to hit the last ball of the innings for six to after he had hit 12 off the first 5 balls of the over to leave a target of 230 for an inexperienced Pakistan batting lineup. Shabbir Ahmed and Mushtaq Ahmed bowled well to pick up 3 wickets each while Azhar Mahmood proved difficult to score off.
