Player of the Decade

If you take ODIs into consideration, Tendulkar with ease for me.

Dravid held fort for us for the bulk of this decade. Sachin was out for a year or two because of back problems then later the tennis elbow.

But for India, i'd go with Anil Kumble. Our biggest matchwinner for sure. For the Indian team you expect the batters to do well. Kumble was the leader of the bowling attack, stood up with no real back up, and bowled marathon spells with a big heart and fiery attitude. Don't forget his 10 wicket haul either.

I believe he was bigger for India than Murali and Warne were for their respective nations as he was the only threatening bowler, the only one you could throw the ball to and know that he would give his best, bowl as a leader and contain one end to keep the batsman under wraps. Warne had McGrath, Gillespie, Lee etc and Murali had Vaas. Only till recently did Kumble have a really strong partner in Zaheer.

Australia:Ponting
Bangladesh:Ashraful
England:Strauss
India:Dravid
New Zealand:Vettori
Pakistan:Yousuf
South Africa:Kallis
Sri Lanka:Murali
West Indies:Chanderpaul
Zimbabwe:Streak(er):p

I think it should be Kallis as he is second in the list for runs this decade and also we should not forget his wickets , he took wickets for S.A at crucial times.

From a batting perspective, I'll go with Sachin Tendulkar (Maybe with a bit of bias).

As for the bowlers, my pick will definitely be Murali. Four hundred and thirty two wickets with an average of something under 25 is an enormous achievement.

And overall, it's Jack Kallis hands down. His form did experience a slump towards the end, but the fact that he still was the second highest run getter of this decade is a testimony to his gigantic achievements. He is a pretty good bowler as well, and can trouble the opposition quite a bit with his lethal deliveries.

Kallis might have numbers but would anyone want to relive one of his test knocks? Paint drying is more exciting. Punter always bats in an attractive aggressive manner whenever possible, plus he's at number 3 so he deserves a little more credit than guys batting lower. Sehwag and Punter are on another level, both of them, the way they drive and pull and attack the new ball is so great. Kallis at 4 just plods away, no wonder crowds are always low in SA, no-one wants to sit through a Kallis 6 hour bore fest.

That's not Kallis' fault, blame Test Cricket. :p

Rahul Dravid for me. The Wall. Where would India be without him? He really held our batting together when Sachin was in and out with injury.

Non Indians: Ricky Ponting, Glenn McGrath and Jacques Kallis

Fire away with your stats as much as you like, Dravid has played a very important role with the bat in many of India's test wins in the last few years and he has proven to be hands down one of the most reliable batsmen in the world.
