Zimbabwe vs Australia, 1st ODI, 19th October 2006

Some totally new players as back-up for this ODI series, due to injury and poor form.
How will they fair against the best team in the world?

zimvaus306mz2.png

A fabulous debuts for Soma, who took 3 for 36 (Ponting/Hussey/Gilchrist), and Chapungu, who scored 29

zimvaus306resultjx3.png

A rather convincing victory as Zimbabwe cruised about the RR and never really looked in trouble.

1-0 to Zimbabwe, ODI too easy??

Zimbabwe vs Australia, 2nd ODI, 21st October 2006

An unchanged line-up, as usual :p

zimvaus406qi5.png

A blistering performance from the Australian batters setting a better toal of 249 for 6, can they defend this time around?

zimvaus406resultiu1.png

Nope!!
Even more of a seemingly easy victory than last time!

zimvaus406resultrroi2.png

Always ahead of the RR and just took it easy towards the end.

2-0 to Zimbabwe, already won the series, now for a whitewash??

Zimbabwe vs Australia, 3rd ODI, 23rd October 2006

A few more changes in the team to allow some more youngsters to play, sounds strange to say that given Im playing Australia as Zimbabwe!

zimvaus506zo1.png

Australia destroy the young bowlers however all 3 take wickets.
289 - 3 is the score set can an under strenght Zimbabwe chase it down and claim a well deserved whitewash??

zimvaus506resultsb3.png

zimvaus506resultrrde8.png

Again always miles ahead of the RR if things stay like this the WC is a guarentee!

3-0 to Zimbabwe, it's a whitewash against the best team in the world!!

So to sum up...

A look at the Country and Player rankings now...

Again back to the top, what a batsman!!

2006octtestbowlcw1.png

Not bad for the old master!!

2006octodibatzj7.png

At the top here too! The best batter in the world is a Zimbabwean!!

God enough for the young man I'm sure!

Next up, Zimbabwe travel to Pakistan.

Here is the 18 man sqaud..

Karachi Whites vs Zimbabwe, 3 day friendly, 1st November 2006

A young team is fielded for this friendly, hoping to avoid injury for the test series mainly but also to give them experience incase they are needed.

zimvpak106et2.png

A good first innings bowling effort was ruined by a large partnership from Abbasi and Rizvi, otherwise Karachi could have been all out for under 200.
A top oder collapse from Zimbabwe was saved by a galient partnership from Mutyambizi and Vogel and the tail tred to wag.

zimvpak106resultre6.png

The bowling never really fired in the second innings and Karachi had the chance to build a lead and hope for a win.
Zimbabwe however tried to fight back and made a good start, but as soon as the wickets started to fall, they shut up shop and looked for the draw.

To be fair an expected and fair result, neither side looked like winning, neither side really deserved to win.

From this I have seen some future potential which is a good sign but for now the emphasis is purely continuing the victory parade and taking 2 more series!

I'll try, away to Pakistan won't be easy.

After this series I think I have Sri Lanka and then its the WC!!

And I really think I've got a shot at making the semi's maybe even the final or possibly winning?? :p

Pakistan vs Zimbabwe, 1st Test, 7th November 2006

A full strenght line-up for this match seeing as it's a seamers pitch.

zimvpak206ns6.png

A magnificant double century Youhana (201) sets Pakistan to a massive total of 581 all out.
Only 2 days and 2 seesions have gone.
The pitch is deteriating rapidly can Zimbabwe hang on for over 3 days??

zimvpak206resultbx2.png

Terbulant times for this Zimbabwe team, young players being added ready to replace the older seniors.
Overall the batting just about fired, but will the bowling in the 2nd Test?

Pakistan vs Zimbabwe, 2nd Test,

An unchanged line-up for the second test, hoping for a better bowling performance.

zimvpak306kv2.png

zimvpak306resultlf9.png

Just about hung on and stole a victory.

Another test series win and now only 1 way from being 4th in the Test rankings.

What a win there mate great story keep it up. Go Zimbabwe

Pakistan vs Zimbabwe, 1st ODI, 21st November 2006

An unchanged line-up from the last test to face Pakistan in the 1st ODI.

A comfortable victory in the end for Zimbabwe. After a great bowling performance which saw the Pakistan top order fall apart to 68-4, and eventually restricting them to 173-9, a comfortable chase was briefly shaken by two early wickets but never looked in doubt at the end.

Zimbabwe lead 1-0

Pakistan vs Zimbabwe, 2nd ODI, 23rd November 2006

Same team... looking for a repeat performance... simple! Well with another spinner added due to the turning pitch ;)

A batting pitch and an aggressive outlook from Pakistan, but equally matched by Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe lead 2-0, a whitewash on the cards??

Pakistan vs Zimbabwe, 3rd ODI, 25th November 2006

Spinner out, seamer in for the seamers track.

Next up is a trip to Sri Lanka.

Sinhalese vs Zimbabwe, 3 day friendly, 24th February 2007

And expected line-up with a debutant too.

srifriendqp2.png

A draw, however ZImbabwe looked shakey with the bat, and unconvincing with the ball. Is the bubble of success about to burst??

srifriendresultql4.png

Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe, 1st Test, 2nd March 2007

Same team barring the slight seamer swap.

sritest1np9.png

An impressive batting effort from Sri Lanka which included a mammoth 279 from Jayawardene saw them reach 531 all out in just over 2 days of batting.
A dogged effort from the whole Zimbabwe team saw them muster a resiliant 476 all out in reply and leave the home side with a small lead of 55.

sritest1resultcg4.png

The second innings was less impressive from Sri Lanka who declared on 232 for 5.
Zimbabwe had thus 288 to win from only 2 session of day 5 left. Was that enough time??
Could they do it on a pitch that was a bowlers paradise??
