Ramdan Karim!

Ramadan Karim folks. Today is the first Roza. Man after P.E i was soooo thirsty but what can you do.
On the 1st Ramadan this year, which was the 13th of September here, I couldn't wake up before dawn and eat to begin my fast. Fortunately you don't have to eat in order to begin your fast, therefore I remained from eating anything until sunset, which translates into more or less 20 hours of abstention (And mind you it was a regular school day).
Happy Ramadan Mubarak Guys.

Well first I get up at 4:00am and eat until 5:07am. From then on you cannot eat or drink anything till it goes dark (e.g. Here in Sheffield, 7:27pm)

It's especially hard as I am the only Muslim in my year and at dinner time they eat and you can smell chips, sandwiches etc. Well not 3 hours and 8 minutes to go :)
You eat in the morning for straight 1 hours and 7 minutes!! :p
Here, the duration of abstention for the first of Ramadan (for this year) was 14 hours and 17 minutes. Since winter is fast approaching, the starting of fasting will be delayed about 1-3 minutes each day, while sunset or the ending of abstention will arrive 1-3 minutes each day-meaning that the duration of abstention will reduce about 4 minutes each day.
I no about the sunset to dusk thing, i mean how many days.
The Islamic calendar is a lunar year, therefore depending on the moon, the month of Ramadan may last 29 or 30 days-we will not be able to know until the 29th day to see if the (last) crescent of the moon is sighted, therefore marking the end of the month. However, if it is not sighted on the 29th of the month, it will mean that we fast for one more day before we celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.

And by the way, Happy Ramadan to all too.

Eid ul-Fitr or Id-Ul-Fitr (Arabic: عيد الفطر ‘Īd al-Fiṭr), often abbreviated as simply Eid, is an Islamic holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. Fiṭr means "to break the fast" and therefore symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period. Eid ul-Fitr is a joyous occasion with important religious significance, celebrating of the achievement of enhanced piety. It is a day of forgiveness, moral victory, peace of congregation, fellowship, brotherhood and unity.

Is that the time you fill your face with whatever you can get your hands on :p

And another 30% to your local supermarket? :p

Haha, yes. Not to mention giving money to the younger ones. I'm the youngest in the family so I get money from everyone. :D It was even better when I was in Pakistan since I was the youngest out of all my relatives.

Happy Ramadan guys.

Could someone run me through, what you'd do on a typical Ramadan day? I've done a bit of research on it, just interested to know how it affects our PC members :)

So you can't drink during the daylight hours? I thought it was just abstaining from eating food?

You get up in the Moring before the time of Fajr (Muslim prayer in the morning).. Then when it's time of Fajr you stop eating. And at the 4rth Muslim prayer of the day Maghreb (when sun is going down) we open the fast with date and water (and I eat hell lot that time :p)..

abstaining from Water, Food, Swearing, Fighting, Sex (holy month thats why).

And during night I’m always eating :D….

This time in UK all the muslims are starting Ramadan the same day, so there is unity, thats great news, because before one group fasts day before other day after and another one 2 days after. That ment that everybody celebrated Id (Eid) on different days.

I love it that you guys can't swear or use violence during Ramadan. It is the perfect time to rub in a Pakistan loss to India :)

HAHA Zorax, great thinking mate.
