I'm playing through the tour of South Africa with England. PC version on hard mode. Both Gauteng in the 1st game, and now South Africa A in the 2nd, required between 200 and 250 in their second innings (4th of the match) to win. Both their 1st innings were blocky efforts taking 70 odd overs to reach about 100 runs.

Now... in both matches their 2nd innings started with both teams trying to smash every, and I mean EVERY ball to the boundary as though they were playing a 10 over slog. Neither innings lasted more than 7 overs!!!

Anyone else experience this, and any tips for getting round this. I usually play test / 4-day cricket, but can't see the point of continuing with the game if every match is going to turn out in such a farce.

Hmmmm thats odd, this has never happend to me. Although aggressive players with ful confidence do punish bad balls severley. If you add swing and seam to your deliverys they should slog less. My staright balls normally get dispatched with a slog if they are to full or wide off off stump.

What difficulty setting are you using?

I am touring Aus at the moment and in both 4 day matches (W Aus and Queensland), I got the opposition out for 80 odd in their 2nd innings. However not through reckless shots.

I have experienced exactly the same scenario as FishBowlMan.
I was playing a County Championship match and in the final innings of the game my opponents, Glamorgan, needed 215 to win. After 5 overs they were 45 for 5 and all out for about 65 off no more than 10 overs. Several sixes were hit and most wickets were catches on the boundary or mis-timed heave-ho's caught close in.

As MrHillingdon has experienced - straight from ball 1 they came and smacked everything - good or bad balls as if they wanted to be at the pub for bolts back!

I am using Hard mode with Eddie's original .big file with tweaked outfield settings and a few of my own modified shots. I think the .big file may have been the problem. The default 2bb7ad25c9aa96dc7b6f670d84a4df83.big (containing pitch and pacing settings) is about 25k in size. Eddie's 1st one was, I believe, about 35k in size. It is possible that it was corrupted so that the CPU was taking settings from one of the limited over pacings.

I have now replaced this with the default .big file. I autoplayed 3 innings leaving the oposition to play their last, and they played much more sensibly in their final knock.

Unfortunately in my next match (1st test vs South Africa), they won the toss and batted, so I can't tell whether this has sorted the problem or not :(

Thanks for your help guys. I will let you know if this does indeed sort out the problem.

I had the same problem when using Eddie's file. Reverted back to the old one and everything is ok.

Good to have that confirmed - otherwise I would have to bowl first in every game. No dusty wickets for me!

I have experienced the same 2nd innings problem. I defended 113 and they got 90 all out. But it was a great game though

If you want to find it hard to get any nicks play a tour of the sub continent on hard.
