What a shocker, I didn?t get an aisle seat and in fact I got a middle one, sitting next to Harbajan and the new boy in the team Pragyan Ojha. He is a left arm spinner and could make a useful addition to the side. I haven?t seen much of him but know from Chappell our coach that he is incredibly talented and for a 20 year old he has serious potential. Well we are on our way to the West Indies and the world cup.

Finally, the air hostesses come round with the trolley and I get a water. Im not eating much at the moment as I am on a diet, obviously Harbajan isn?t and he orders a coke and two pots of Pringles. I give him a quick nudge and tell him to ?sort it out? and stop being so fat, he laughs and returns to reading his magazine. I look over to Ojha again and see that he is actually reading a book and to more of my surprise it was Monty Panesar?s autobiography. He doesn?t even notice my gaze and I decide to leave it and maybe talk to him later.

Me Arriving to fly to West Indies

So back to my diary, I have had a good season by all means and India have had a very good one. We have toured Bangladesh, South Africa and New Zealand came to us. We didn?t lose a test series and won two of the three ODI series. I played well scoring runs against all sides and especially enjoyed a purple patch against South Africa where I hit 445 runs in 9 innings at an average of 89. Overall I felt India played good cricket and I can say we are going into this tour with serious potential to do well.

Our Group should be simple enough to qualify through although I know after touring Bangladesh they have great spirit and will not want to give in easily. First we face Bermuda, then Sri Lanka and finally Bangladesh. With Sehwag on form throughout the summer tests and One dayers I am confident he will be one of the most dangerous players in this world cup.

My Season So Far

I return to Ojha, this time I decide to talk to him and gently tap him on the shoulder. He takes a few seconds turns down his page lowers his book and smiles at me and says ?yes?

I look back and ask about Monty?s autobiography and why he is reading it. He looks back and begins to talk about how the Left Arm Spinner is an idol, how he can be looked upon as a great with the way he goes about the game and most importantly the way he goes about life. I am very surprised but more so when he tells me what is says about me being his idol. I don?t really like to think of myself as special or different but I had heard about Monty?s respect for me and I also regard him highly. We spoke on and on and eventually the subject changed to me, my career how I felt as a 14 year old playing first class cricket and even more so as a 16 year old playing test match cricket. He told me how he had grown up with me as his idol, how he pretended to be me in the backyard, the parks and in games when playing as a youngster. After this conversation I sat back and just closed my eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep.

I was there playing for India and Ojha was at the other end, Monty was coming into bowl and India needed 4 to win from 2 balls with 1 wicket in hand. I knew throughout my career I had done so much but the past didn?t matter. All I wanted to do was win and win for India. The ball was tossed up and I picked it up well as I danced down the pitch. NO, I couldn?t get there and?..it ripped past the bat. HHHHHOOOOOOWWWWWWZZZAAATTTTT
Shouted the English

?Sachin, Sachin? It was Rahul and I had obviously been asleep, but it seemed so real, I aksed Dravid if we had lost to England and I must have been quite loud as the people around us began to say things like ?We better not do? and ?What are you talking about Sachin? I smiled and said it was just a dream. As we left there were media and fans beyond belief. I decided to just relax and after a bit if hassle we got onto a bus and drove to the hotel. With 3 days until the first game I just hope my dream doesn?t become reality.

10th April 2007

In two days we play the first game against Bermuda and im begining to feel more pressure than I have for a long time. When I was younger I used to feel the pressure of the fans and having to constantly perform and score runs for India. Now I have a new pressure. Im not saying I dont go into every game wanting to score runs and working as hard as I can to succeed in making runs for the national side. It doesn't come easy for me even now at the highest level and with the countries eyes now on me more than ever I cannot help but feel like I dont have what it takes. Its so draining being called the 'Little Master' and 'A God' and as I walk out to bat I get a standing ovation it doesnt matter were or when I bat.

Now as we train and meet as a side I feel as if failure is not an option. For what most people is a test hundred is now for me seen as normal. Im just saying now that with the side of 15 named and the squad is one that I feel has the potential to win the work cup and if we are to succeed i am to perform and its not going to be easy.

I am taking small steps in getting me head back in shape for the game in two days. I am training hard in nets with the side but also meeting with skipper Rahul and also the more experianced players V.V.S, Sourav and Anil. Our aims have been to work out who is expected to do what in out world cup games.

Indian World Cup Player Reviews

V. Sehwag ? An aggressive opening batsmen with a One Day International career of 30.79. A player who likes to dominate the bowling and we will want him to try to average between 40-50 at a decent pace throughout the tournament.

S. Tendulker ? An important part of the team who is expected more to lift the other players rather than average huge amounts. If India are winning it doesn?t matter how he performs

S. Ganguly ? A career average of 40 and another leader in the side. He must lead by example and help direct India to world cup dominance

M. Kaif ? A 26 year old with over 100 ODI games and averaging 32. Not In predicted first X1 but a positive batsmen, good fielder and has a good cricketing brain.

Y. Singh ? Awesome middle order bat, need him to push on runs and average 35-40 with a positive attitude

R. Dravid ? A vital player who has a lot of experience and as captain will need to lead well and score runs at the same time

V.V.S Laxman ? Not that much of a ODI career but an awesome player looking to average over 50 batting in the middle order.

M. Dhoni ? Powerful batsmen and a solid keeper needs to bat with the tail using aggressive hitting.

R. Powar ? Very intelligent spinner who can participate with the bat. In as one of 4 spinners.
I. Pathan - A young yet talented new ball bowler who has 109 career test wickets at 24 which is a very good record. Will be opening and his performance is very important

H. Singh ? The turbanator and one of the spin twins. He will be aiming to keep the middle overs calm and take some serious wickets.

A. Kumble - Experianced leg spinner who has 361 ODI wickets and needs to bowl well to get those vital middle order wickets.

S. Maniar ? The other half of the new ball attack and with only 11 ODI games will need to show maturity.

P. Ojha ? One of two uncapped players and although unknown will be the third spinner if needed.

I. Sharma ? 18 year old fast medium lanky bowler who will be looking to debut. Third Choice seam bowler.

And so finally just a quick thing I read in the paper recently about the Indian world cup squad and the youngsters and predictions about the side. I never normally read much about the side or myself but it was good to see what the writer thought about the youngsters and how he thought we would do in this huge world cup and my fifth in total.

The Indian Side has been selected for the world cup and it includes experiance and in-experiance. Ojha(20) and Sharma(18) are two players who have never played any form of ODI cricket. Both are bowlers and both have the ability to perform at the highest level. The more matured players could be known as the 'Famous Four' with Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble and 'The Little Master' Sachin Tendulkar. With the mixture of a matured top order and immature bowling attack India have serious potential to win this world cup. India have been selected in a group they should qualify through and with the nation behind them there is high expectation that the side will produce one of their best ever tournaments and could win the trophy. With Australia, South Africa and New Zealand three of the main sides in for the trophy India will have to fight hard to produce the goods but do deffinatly have the potential.

Great update. Nice read. Your doing really good with this story mate.. I like the style your doing. Keep it up :)

Nice update also i will like to say that you have done a detailed study for this one :). Nice squad for India but i would prefer Chawla or M.Karthik instead of P. Ojha. KUTGW :)

This is a good concept. Great creativity so far. Keep going :)

Very nice start so far :thumbs. I hope Leverock can pull out some magic against India
