What a poor start to the cup, Sourav Ganguly was constantly throwing up throughout the night and after speaking to him this morning its obvious he cannot play today. Rahul, Anil and I spoke early this morning about the decision of who will replace him and the choices were either Ojha, Powar or Sharma. We made a simple choice that if we vote whoever comes up with the most votges gets that spot in the side. Rahul voted Ojha and So did I. Anil voted Powar for the extra batting option but that did mean that Ojha was in the side for the opening game. We decided it was called a trial.

Indian Starting X1

V. Sehwag
Y. Singh
S. Tendulkar
R. Dravid (C)
V.V.S Laxman
M. Dhoni (WK)
I. Pathan (1)
H. Singh
P. Ojha
A. Kumble
S. Maniar (2)

So there it is, my thoughts are that the tail is incredibly long without an all rounder and it means that there is serious pressure on our top order and most importantly Rahul, V.V.S and I will all need to score some runs. I know that its only Bermuda today but we have to perform well as today is the start to what will hopefully be an awesome campaign.

We arrived at the ground about 3 hours before the start of play and while most of us were chilling in the dressing room Ojha and Harbajan were out on the field just bowling to each other. I headed out to see Ojha first hand for the first time and he looked decent. Even though they weren't running in or bowling full length he was getting good turn and look very comfortable. Chappel began to talk to us about treating today like the biggest of our lives and the most importantly getting our first win in the campaign.

Rahul headed out to do the toss after the side had done a bit of fielding and I actually decided to sign some autographs today and after speaking to the rest of the side we are all going to try and get 'involved' with the crowd more and more throughout the comp and if we're winning we're going to have fun as well as put in 110%. Rahul won the toss and decided to bowl first on a pitch that defiantly looked like 3 spinners was the right choice as it was dusty and looked like it was going to turn from the word go.

What a bowling performance, we had them 20-1 and then it didnt stop from there. Pathan took 2, Maniar 3, Harbajan 3 and Anil took 3-18 from 6 overs with turn dip and bounce. Ojha bowled exceptionally well for his debut and was unlucky not to pick up more than 1 wicket. We toppled them for 150 with the main fight coming from D. Morgan who scored 44. It was also disapointing not to see there roly poly bowler who injured himself on the way to the ground falling out of the bus.

Well with only 150 to get the plan was just to try and get some valuable time in the middle getting used to the conditions. Sehwag and Yuvraj both batted with skill and determination as they put on 154 in 36 overs to win the game without me being needed.

Sehwag scored 88(103) hitting to all areas of the ground and looking very very comfortable against all bowlers. Yuvraj also batted well with 62(120) and I think was just trying to confirm his place as the opening batsmen in the side.

Overall an awesome day with a simple win and it was really good to see us win by such a clear margin. As we returned home we saw Sri Lanka had beaten Bangladesh by a clear distance and maybe more importantly for us Sangakarra and Jayerwardne failed which has to be looked on as a positive. On the way home I chatted to Ojha and although he was wicketless his figures of 10-0-22-0 were good and it was likely he would be selected in the next game.

IS IT OK NOT TO HAVE SCORECARDS AND JUST DESCRIBE?

:happyCOMMENTS PLEASE:happy

Great update. Really good read. Great bowling by Kumble and good to see Sachin getting invovled with the fans :)

What game is this on? ICC?

I think scorecards would add more realism. To see everyone's peformances not just the standouts. Oh and what game is this story on? Very nice presentation :)

i reckon u should put in scorecards so we know where the players are at

i will but its a hard ask....

guys is it ok if i just do a mixed screenshot of the score?

PLAYING ON ICC 06

13th April 2007

With tommorow being our biggest game of the group stages against Sri Lanka today was just a rest day. I decided to chill in my room for most of the day and watch a bit of cricket as well as just relax. I spent a few hours in the nets with Rahul just working on driving and had about 300 throw downs just to get my eye in. A small yet worthwhile session.

With Sourav still sick either Ojha or Powar will play against the Sri Lankans and the decision will be made tommorow morning depending on the conditions. Ojha spent almost 4 hours bowling today and he really is the examlple of a player who wants nothing less than the best. He asked if I wanted to bat but I said I only wouldn't face him until he got a couple of wickets in the world cup. He smiled laughed and said 'If I play I promise those wickets will be mine'

And just to finish an article i saw in the paper today about the South Africa VS Australia match. Me and V.V.S had a huge laugh about this after Ponting had been ranting on about Australia having the 'Best Batting Line Up In The World'

Today Saw Australia fail to hold South Africa in one of the worst games of cricket I have ever witnessed. Australia won the toss on a hard flat pitch and surprisingly Hussey and Jaques opened the batting. From the word go Australia looked poor and scored 172 from 50 overs losing 7 wickets. Jaques scored 50(86) Watson 38(65) Not Out and finally skipper Ponting scored 33(60). Australia's performance with the ball was even worse as South Africa knocked off the 172 in 31 overs runs from Gibbs (84*) and Captain Smith (62). South Africa finished with a 6 wicket win and put the favourites of the comp on the backfoot in the group stages.

Australia need to be better than that if they want to go three in a row.
