On this game, if u r buyin youth players, how do u tell a good one?

~ Salary wanted?
~ Competition to sign him?
~ Bowling?batting average
~ Matches/ age ratio?

Once u have signed a good player how do you coach him?

~ Batting/Bowling Technique?
~ Batting/Bowling Coaching?
~ Added physio (to prevent burnout)?

I feel that physio is the most valuable service available, some say tht coaching is necessary but, can u coach if the player is injured or low in fitness?

What age do you consider releasing a player (no matter what form or ability) As I find that value, form, national seletion and long term fitness is deeply affected after the age of 35?

Be careful of offering veterans too many years on their contract, as even when they have retired, you will still have to pay the remaining salary to him over the contract period..

If I am correct, If you send a player many times to the physio he will increase his salary way too much in the next season....

One more doubt I have is, How to select Youth Keepers .....I mean on what basis...You see their batting form....consistent scores...you select him..but who knows...He might drop 2-3 catches every match :p & you realise he's a dud in keeping

For me, keepers are the hardest to gauge. We are in an age of cricket that we want our keepers to be an excellent lower order batsman. But the real judge of a keeper is his fitness. As long as your keeper holds the catches, makes the stumpings, stays fit and can bat for a while, retain him. If after a season or two, they aren't performing, drop them.

I simply base my selections on 2nd team averages.. probably not the most complete method for selecting players, but if a bastman appears with a 60+ 2nd team average or a bowler with a 20 odd average, then chances are they will be really good.

I hardly get any allrounders that are competent in batting or bowling, and similarly i always seem to get regen keepers that have a 2nd team batting average of less than 20.

In all those seasons I've played ICC (should be about 100 now) I have only seen one regen opening keeper-batsman. ALso, I find it very annoying that there are 'gloved' batsmen at the start, which most of the time means nothing, although some keepers (Tom New, if I'm right) are roughly as good a keeper as Trescothick according to the game. I would like to see more opening keeper-batsmen, because it's realistic. A lot of keepers do well as openers, in my experience, but you can only find out by trying them. For example, my keeper Stafford averages around 50 when opening, and around 30 in the lower order. An opening average of fifty suggests he is a good batsmen, but if I'd only have played him in the lower order, I wouldn't think of him as good.

I had a good regen keeper once, I made a thread abut him. Averaged 70 FC and 50 OD or something.

i'm now in season 2048 with lancashire.....i have both my keepers avg'ing over 50 with the bat for the second team....and then less than 20 FC with the first team....tried coaching the hell out of them and have now just given up.
Since i've got a really strong bowling attack, but my batting's a bit of a weak link, have put my specialist opener as my keeper(avg 43 FC) and slotted in another regular batsman into the team.
My keeper now regularly drops an avg of 3 catches a match, but i'm still winning everything, cos i'm now playing 5 bowlers and 6 full-fledged batsman.so i can absorb whatever his missed chances cost me.

I choose according to:
Averages (Above 40 with bat and below 23 with ball, helps in the batters bowl a bit or bowlers bat)
Wages (Above 23,000 is usally fairly good)
Needs of the team

And I replace players once they don't perform as well. I mean, if they are unstoppable at around 35-36, it is fine. But if they are doing averagely at their age, I let them go and let younger players have a chance to shine.

The criteria's I go for is................

1
A batsman should have average above 50 and above 2000 runs in his career and above 55 in the last year.
A bowler should have avearge below 20 and above 100 wickets in his career and below 18 in the last year.
An Alrounder should have average above 40 with bat in career and below 27 atleast with ball.I always choose an alrounder with RF or RFM.

2
Then comes the ratio of age with salary. What I mean is that if I get 2 youth players with simlar record in 2nd class matches and I need only 1 in @nd class matches then whoever is younger and asking for more salary I go for him.If a player is asking for 25000 and he is 19 I will go for him than the one who is 23 and asking for 27000.

3
Then also comes the team need ie eg if I already have 3 good LS then I wont buy a youth who is LS even if he match all criteria.

4
I usually go for SLA bowler if he is in the youth market especially in ICC3 since they are rare and agood one to have in your team.

i find that physio and batting/ bowling technique always helps them. However if you are not playing them regularly in matches, technique will have no effect on them.

Hope this helps

It is partially luck if u get a good one. I relys a lot on how good you are. If you are good ur youths are more likely to be good.

2nd team averages of my england team...

112 (bat)
133 (bat)
117 (bat)
149 (bat)
133 (bat)
96 (bat)
38 (keeper, hard to find one with a decent average)
8.87 (bowler, LMF)
10.05 (bowler, RM)
9.52 (bowler, OS)
9.53 (bowler, LM)

all the batsmen, bar the 96 averager, average over 100 in tests and the bowlers all average under 15 in tests. Therefore they are to be had. just give them 2 or 3 seasons before you write then off
