Firstly, I have to say YES!!!! I am delighted that we have managed to win some silverware already, just 5 months after the debacle that was the Rugby World Cup. To go to Ireland and win there for the first time since 2000 is something special and makes me feel proud! However, whilst the Triple Crown is something - next week in Cardiff is going to be even more special. Wales looked in control and professional during the majority of the game and Ireland seemed limited in their options and lacked ambition - so you can imagine how nervous I was with our two yellow cards and 1 point lead with just 5 minutes left!!!
I always thought Scotland were going to pull one out of the bag against England - but even I couldn't have predicted how dire England played. Scotland looked limited in attack but England looked even worse - and it was the professional boots of Paterson and Parks that took Scotland home - a bit of a damp squib to be honest.
Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the whole of France V Italy, but from what I understand, France attacked well, but looked poor in defence - and Warren Gatland and his team will have analysed every aspect of the French play today before next weekends crunch match - and whilst Italy haven't won a match this tournament, they can be proud of their efforts, especially against Ireland and England, and they look like a team that is better than Scotland so I favour them for a win next weekend and to condemn Scotland to the foot of the table, once again.
Rhys' Round 5 Predictions
Italy 23 - 15 Scotland
England 16 - 27 Ireland
Wales 31 - 21 France
Championship Permutations
- If Wales beat France, they will win the 6 Nations Championship and will have completed the Grand Slam.
- If France beat Wales by 20 points or more, they will take the 6 Nations Championship.
- However, if France beat Wales, but by less than 20 points, the championship will still belong to Wales.
I know which result I favour, but what do you think will happen on Saturday?
