This thread will be based on the intelligence of people, try to tell as many different ways of measuring intelligence as you know - not just IQ, but also school grades, reports, wit etc.

Personally, I'm academically quite clever with no B's in any exams, and also with an IQ of 132. However, my school grades show that I'm not a top-notch worker!

But that's all fine by me, how about you guys?

quite clever but a bit dozy, if i put my mind to it i am clever
i always seme to do well in exams

proff of this? i did absolutely no revision in my sats at all (both ones) got 5,5,5 first time round, 7.7.7 second time round

the 7 in maths was articularly sweet, as the teacher said to me in the middle of year 8, im not going to force you to do the work, but if you dont even get a 6 in the sats dont complain that i didnt try and teach you (he gave up hope after he found my list of all 150 original pokemon i'd been working on for the past 2 and a bit lessons)

he tried to make me look stupid in forn of the whole class as most were expected (and did actually get) level 8s, then when i got the 7 i just laughed at him (we don't get on very well)

but i do have some I (well lots of) stupid moments were i just dont think at all, and not all my lack of effort pays off like it did in maths

Wouldnt have thought I would be quoting my mum, but what she said about me was spot on

" use [my] intellegence to find an easier way of doing things, instead of working hard and doing them well"

i is prety dum aYE

To be perfectly honest, intelligence is not the be-all and end-all. There are plenty of more important things in life.

I'm not stupid I'm not a geek, Normal.

Although to be honest labelling clever people as geeks doesn't help either! We ought to celebrate achievement but plenty of other things too.

I completely agree with what you said, I didn't start this thread up for arguments about intelligence, but for an in-depth look into different people's differing levels of intelligence!

I am pretty good at schools... top group in everything except english which i am 2nd top but not a geek i like sports

same as me you are mate (Hassan)...I am top in everythin as well apart from English...but i don't know how it works...we had two sectors (A and B) last year and each sector had further 5 sets in it (1 being best)...i was in set 1 in sector B last year and another lad in set 3 in sector B (same as mine)...but in Year 10 they combined the set to make a super set with 5 sets in it and i went into set 2 and the kid who was in set 3 in sector B went into set 1 overall...don't get it me...

well clever people are not geeks I agree, but 'Ultra' clever people damn are.

I am forced to say this to quite a few people I know: there is no such thing as a geek. People who go to school or work and do what is expected of them is normal!

I don't agree entirely. If we are going to label people it would be someone that foregoes social interaction and a wide range of activities in order to concentrate solely on academic and solitary pursuits.
The point is people are different and it takes all kinds of people to make a proper society. As the car sticker says, 'be nice to geeks because you'll probably end up working for one.'
That said I would always encourage anyone who does find themselves spending time on work/computers rather than joining sports clubs, interacting with other people their own age etc to try and bring about greater balance in their life.
This forum is, I would say, unusual as it is a sports forum and most members are either likely to be involved or to have been involved in sport which I believe is one of the reasons we have such a good member base.

yeah i am very good in schools but that doesnt make me a geek.. i agree with Barmy there a person who is just into academic studies and never socialises is a one

You can't base how clever someone is by school grades and IQ tests, they are all a load of crap really.

Hopefully these ramblings make sense and also I'm not attacking anyone here, it's just my opinion on the matter.

Example: 'Person A' was good at school and was a straight A student. 'Person B' did not do so well and dropped out of school in year 10. Who is apparently smarter? 'Person A' right. But put any sort of vehicle or mechical implement in front of 'Person B' he knows exactly what everything is, but 'Person A' has no idea. Who is smarter now?

IQ Tests are the biggest load of crap around, they in no way judge how intelligent someone is. They are based on averages and the questions that can be asked vary so much it's not funny. Best was the Australian IQ Test that was done on TV. They said the average Australian IQ was 110 (When I've been lead to believe that 100 is the average, no matter what) and that New Zealanders had lower IQs than Australians. Of course a New Zealander is going to score less on an Australian IQ Test than an Australian would.
