South Africa are the top-ranked T20 side in the world. They are one team that has performed consistently well in all the three format of the game all year round. Their form led them to become the first ever sideto have topped the ranking charts in all the formats recently.

To match their image, the Proteas, surprisingly, have only one major ICC trophy to their name?ICC knockout trophy that they won in 1998. They have yet to achieve a world championship title in any format. On each occasion that they have participated in a world championship tournament, they have been overwhelmingfavourites. The team performs throughout the tourney only to ?choke? at the final hurdle.

With the T20 championship moving to the subcontinent this year, South Africa led by AB de Villiers are again among the favourites to land the trophy with a team that has perhaps the best bowling line-up inthe world today along with some of the big hitters of the cricket ball and useful all-rounder.

Strength: South Africa are perhaps the only team that can boast of a line-up that excels in all the departments of the game. Their batting comprises some of the best T20 batsmen having experience in playing the subcontinent conditions. At the top they have the calming presence of Hashim Amla complemented by the brute force of big hitting Richard Levi.

Veteran all-rounder Jacques Kallis has proved that age is not the primary factor that dictates who qualifies to be a T20 player. In his stint with the Indian Premier League franchises, he has time and again displayed his utility both as a batsman and as a bowler and his rich experience will surely come handy in the middle order.

Their captain, AB de Villiers with his one-man show for his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore turned many a match in their favour with his blitzing knocks in the 2012 season.

In the bowling department they have world?s best pacer Dale Steyn and spinner Johan Botha who is ranked as the third bestT20 bowler after England?s Graeme Swann and Pakistan?s Saeed Ajmal.

Weakness: The only chink in their armoury happens to be the absence of a specialist spinner. On the turning Sri Lankan tracks, a lethal pace attack combined with an equallyefficient spin department could have been a mouth watering prospect but in the absence of Imran Tahir appears to be the only weak link in their squad and they will have to rely on Robin Peterson and Johan Botha.

Opportunities: With a majority of their squad members regularly playing in the IPL, they do have the requisite experience of the conditions and some of them have excelled under them (read AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Jacques Kallis). The conditions under the lights in Sri Lanka during the recently concluded SLPL have offered movement and swing for the fast bowlers which should be good news for their pacers.

Threat: They have been placed in a group featuring the host nation Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. So, qualifying to the knock out stages shouldn?t be a problem. It is becoming a custom to preach them about how not to fall on the final hurdle but all willdepend on how well they deal with pressure situations in crucial encounters.
SQUAD

We are heading over to win a competition with "development players" who have no right being in the team. They are there for political reasons and the interferences we had to live with right before the time Cronje became corrupt. Justin Ontong is extra baggage I do not know what he is dong there. Avg of 13 with batting and a economy rate of 12 with the bowling:eek:

Morkel and Steyn have both low strike rates and is a good pairing. Botha seems to do very well in T20 with his off breaks. Do we need another spinner?

But what we did was the following
AB de Villiers SR 128.42
Hashim Amla SR 122.22
Farhaan Behardien 181.81
Johan Botha 120.62

You can go on and find only Lonwabo Tsotsobe with a low strike rate below 100 in the line up. A guy to look out for is F Behardien. He made a 20 from 11 balls in his only official T20 against India and against NZ in the warm up he made a 24 of 12 balls.

Then there is Albie Morkel like Levi when he has his day he can destroy you

Morkel vs NZ only faced 1 ball prior

19.4 Milne to JA Morkel, FOUR
19.5 Milne to JA Morkel, FOUR
19.6 Milne to JA Morkel, SIX

Jacques Kallis led SA to a massive 10 wicket win over Zimbabwe in their first match of the T20 World Cup, picking up 4 wickets for just 15 runs to be named Man of the Match...:cheers

SA v Zimbabwe, World T20 2012, Group C, Hambantota : Hashim Amla keen to master Twenty20 cricket | Cricket Features | ICC World Twenty20 2012 | ESPN Cricinfo

The fact that Amla's feels so about his T20 game, further makes me think SA did not need to pick him in their T20 squad especially with players like David Miller and Colin Ingram around.

You can only replace Amla with a guy of color. At the moment we do not have enough talented players of color so we need to include Amla and asked Kaliis to have a go at it to make up for some of the guys who are not good enough to play international level.

This young lad started his carreer well. Quinton de Kock 19 Years of age already notched up a couple of centuries and half centuries in first class cricket including a battling 194 to save a game for his Franchise against the Cobra's

We played like crap again and I do not understand why they simply let AB De Villiers open the batting with Smith in T20. If Smith do not want to play T20 get Morne van Wyk to open with AB but in T20 de Villiers should open a position he is well customed to.

Parnell had his chance for 5 year now. Time to give him the chop. We must start to give players like Pieter Malan, Quinton de Kock, Morne van Wyk,

I did. They are not good enough and were outplayed by the better teams. Wrong type of players for this format. Botha should be captain and De Villiers should be opening with Biffo in the T20 game

^De Villiers is a great captain, but Faf should open with Amla and De Villiers should be 3.

----------

That player Farhaan Behardien is useless, too slow for the middle order, barely over 100 strike rate at the end

Faf does better coming in 5 or 6. Botha is more experienced as captain and did great. AB made a mistake vs Pakistan which cost us the match. AB use to be a opener and did great opening the batting in odi's. He is such a great timer of the ball and with the field up his stroke play is utilized. Kallis should stay at 3. As he is Mr Ever ready and the others bat around him as he Anchors a innings. Morne van Wyk is also a opener and a good timer of the ball. But Amla as great player as he is T20 is not his format. ODI 50 over games he does very well but not T20. He does not like to be hurried like that. Other thing is we sit with two anchors. Amla and Kallis. In ODI cricket if Amla stays in I would keep Kallis back. If he goes early I would sent in Kallis

As for Behardien. You quickly summed up a guy who batted only 3 times in this tournament and made his official debut against Zimbabwe. Only time will tell if he is shyt:cheers

Yeah!Amla's great in test's & odi,why dissapoint everybody by sending out a player how bats for a long time,& expect him to accelerate. His skills are unquestionable, but you could have dropped him for most of the games,& gone with Pietesen's son(:p:p:p:p).Maybe Ingram, hasn't disappointed-young,talented.

In fact he gets less opportunities
