Sangakkara has played well and has had great support from Thirimane at the other end. However, it was great captaincy by MS Dhoni to continue persevearing with his two spinners Harbhajan and Ojha as Ojha did pick up the crucial wicket of Mahela Jayawardene who can hurt any opposition on his day.

With the fast bowlers being rested, the final session will be crucial as Ishant and Sreesanth will be able to utilize the use of the new ball after the eighty overs mark.

Regarding the Castrol Predictor, I feel that Sreesanth will be the leading wicket-taker in the Sri Lankan Innings.

Sri Lankans completely dominate day one

Kumar Sangakkara and Thilan Samaraweera had completely dominated the Indian spinners before the tea session and did the same after the tea break. Sangakkara who was just 12 runs short of his 22nd test century before tea, reached it in 15 balls after tea by hitting Harbhajan Singh for a huge six over mid-wicket. Thilan Samaraeera also followed his skippers lead and went after the Indian part timers in Virender Sehwag and Suresh Raina by smashing them for boundaries.

Samaraweera like Thirimanne and Sangakkara also reached his half century, by hitting Sehwag for a four through covers. Dhoni brought back his fast bowlers immediately as the new was available and it rewarded. Ishant Sharma broke the 157-run fourth wicket partnership as he got rid of Samaraweera leg before for 79. Sreesanth on the other hand was left unhappy at stumps on day one as Sangakkara and the new man Angelo Mathews smashed him for three fours in the last over.

Sri Lankans ended day one on a high note with 324 runs on the board with the loss of just 4 wickets. Star for them was without doubt skipper Sangakkara, who led from the front with an unbeaten 149. It was hard job for the Indian bowlers as everyone except Ojha went for over 3.4 runs an over. Sharma would be a bit happy with himself as he ended the day picking up two wickets. So, that's it from day one stay tuned for action from day two.

lol, Sreesanth didn'r pick any of the wickets. At the way they are playing, they may score above 500. Looks like Sangakkara not gonna to declare. He should be scoring 200+.

Complete domination by Sri Lankans. I feel Indians will bowl them out before 500. They have to if they have to stand a chance to win this match. Sharma and Sreesanth should pick up early wickets especially Sanga tomorrow morning.

Great presentation and writing.

Sanga-Murali help Sri Lanka take lead

Sangakkara was the star of the match

Muttaih Muralitharan's 10 wickets in the match, helped Sri Lanka win the first test by 63 runs but the real star of the match was the Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara who led from the front. Sangakkara scored a brilliant double century in the first innings and a 69 in the second innings to help the host post a target of 280 for the Indians to chase on the fifth day. Gambhir like Sangakkara made a brilliant double century in the first innings which gave the Indians a 36-run lead. But in the second innings Gambhir's 90 was of no use as he didn't get the needed support to chase down the target. No one other than Dhoni(41) and Tendulkar(36) scored in double figures and eventually the Indians lost by 63 runs with more than 10 overs remaining.

Yeah, A great victory from the Lankans. Sanga and Gambhir scored 475 together, that was raining runs for those two players. apart from first two innings, Lankans had well brought up in there second innings, I don't know why Sangakkara given the man of the match because Gambhir was impressive with his batting than him.

Two double centuries in a test match. A rare sight.
Impressive batting from the two left-handers.
