surprise: sri lanka (do they count as a surprise, they are ranked 5th. they've been very so-so in series' but seem to turn it on in tournaments)
batsman: Clarke
Bowler: Steyn
Flop: NZ (vettori to be ineffective on SA pitches, rest of the team to be lacking)

best player: Angelo Mathews. (won't be best bowler or batsman but will take wickets and form match saving partnerships)

Yea because Vettori's our only good one day bowler :sarcasm

Bond and Mills to do most of the damage.

can't see Mills and Bond running through teams to the extent they'll make up for obvious weaknesses in the batting.

Didn't say they would. But with your original post you said Vettori wouldn't be effective so we are pretty much stuffed.

don't get me wrong man, I love NZ, I think I've probably come across a little anti-NZ recently but that's not the case. The only reason I put Sri Lanka in my supported team section is because they just excite me, I've no real reason to support them and NZ have always been the team I support most alongside them. I just think that Vettori is the guy that performs the most consistently, the rest of the guys have good series and matches but Vettori is man that can be relied upon to make at a least a solid contribution, if not a brilliant one, in 9 out of 10 matches.

but I see SA as somewhere he'll struggle to put in those brilliant performances and if his wicket tally is down to 1 or 2 wickets a match and leaking runs at, an only modest, just over 4 an over then NZ will struggle to find someone else to build a win on.

Hope I'm wrong, but recent form of the team makes me worry they'll come away from this tournament disappointed.

Sri Lanka are very well balanced and have a great leader in Kumar Sangakarra.
They have it in them to go all the way.

India / Pak could be the big flops.

Can the South African members here tell us whether there is any buzz about this event in SA (Joburg) or has it been totally overshadowed by next year`s FIFA World Cup? Can we expect big crowds for this event like we saw during the 2003 WC?

Interesting... People here think India dont have it in them to go to the final or all the way. How nice would it be for these guys to be proved wrong!! One guy predicts Sachin Tendulkar to be the biggest flop. And he calls himself a fan of Sachin. Better you had not included that you're his fan. Sachin fans dont predict him to flop.

Finalists: India, Australia
Best Batsman: AB De Villiers
Best Bowler: RP Singh
Biggest flop: Sri Lanka

This tournament will be fun. Just enjoy the spectacle.

I would have loved to see India play in their light blues in this tournament. This darker shade does not feel like an Indian colour to me. I would love them to use the 2003 World Cup kits in ICC events. That was great.
