good work dude, hope the indian tail wags for a while (avoid follow-on?)

good cricket from the Aussies!

Disappointed with the Indian performance in this match.. Hope it meanders to a draw here as India has to save themselves

India have 122 runs required and only 4 wickets left to avoid the follow on. if i can take those wickets for less than 122 i will definatly send them back out. because a draw is still a chance

McGrath Skittles India

Glenn McGrath continued his relentless assault on the Indian batting lineup after the resumption of play following the tea break on day 3 of the TVS test match between Australia and India in Kolkata. Resuming with the score at 6/181 (Patel 13* and Pathan 1*), the Indian tail provided little provided little resistance as the home side colapsed to be all out for 203 runs, still trailing the world champions by 300 runs.

McGrath and MacGill continued their wicket taking partnership, the paceman going onto collect excellent figures of 6/88 (22.0) while the backup leg spinner spun his way to 3/20 (15.0) courtesy of three stumpings from vice captain from Adam Gilchrist. Andrew Symonds, fresh from not having to bat in his return to test cricket, collected the final wicket of Harbajan Singh, (13 from 55 balls) who along with fellow spinner Anil Kumble (1 from 36 balls) stuck around for a combined 91 ball stand to force the Australians to stay in the field until 5.37.

Unsurprisingly Australian captain Ricky Ponting had no hesitation in sending Indian openers Sehwag and Chopra back out in the middle. Providing star opening pair McGrath and Jason Gillespie just over 20 minutes at the home sides top order.

Good decision by ponting not to enforce follow on

no he did enforce the follow on. india are 0/8 (chopra 8*, sehwag 0*). i didnt want to risk my bowlers having only a day to bowl them out because the indian batsman seem to be able to hang around reasonably well.

Dravid and Tendulkar lead fight for survival - Lunch Day 4

Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid lead from the front in the first session on day 4 of the TVS test versus Australia today. Having being bowled out for 203 (still 300 runs off the Australian total of 3/503), the Indian innings appeared to get off to a comfortable start with Aakash Chopra and Virender Sehwag compiling 35 for the first wicket before Glenn McGrath again making the breakthrough, dismissing Chopra for 19 through a great diving catch from Michael Clarke. Sehwag and Dravid then compiled another 19 runs before Stuart MacGill broke through in his first over, bowling Sehwag (24) with a straighter quicker ball to have india in slight trouble with the score at 2/54.

However classy stallwarts Tendulkar (25*) and Dravid (21*) were able to settle into a wicket that was providing little for 1st innings star bowler Glenn McGrath 1/25 (9.0). However Shane Warne (0/21 from 11 overs) and Stuart MacGill (1/11 from 7 overs) appeared happy to contain the great batsman and frustrate them into a mistake.

However the tactic proved to be unsucessful as India crawled to be 2/91 from 33 overs at the lunch interval on day 4. Judging from the performance from the Indian tail in the 1st innings it appears that the performances from Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly and Laxman will be crucial if India can manage to get a positive result from this match.

Dravid stars in Indian resilience

Indian number 3 Rahul Dravid again shone for India in the home sides fight for survival against Australia in Kolkata today. An unbeaten 58 from Dravid and starts from middle order batsman Tendulkar (26), Ganugly (25) and V.V.S Laxman (22*) showed that there was fight from the home side on a degrading wicket helping neither the batsman or the bowlers.

Glenn McGrath again proved he was one of the best bowlers in world cricket as he continued on from his first wicket haul of 6/83, claiming the vital wickets of Tendulkar, caught by Martyn for 26 and Ganguly, caught behind by Gilchrist for 25. The NSW quick finished the middle session of play with figures of 3/69 from 19 overs.

Dravid and Laxman again proved their ability to bat together, putting on an unbeaten 52 run partnership to build the home sides total to 4/184 when the bails were drawn at tea on day 4.

The key to the match appears to be Dravid, the traditionally rock solid right hander. His 58 not out from 133 balls showed the resistance and fight that has long been needed in the Indian order. Dravid appeared to be coming out of his shell and beginning to play a more attacking form of cricket with only a number of overs left to play in the middle session, clubbing Glenn McGrath for 12 runs in the second over before the tea break. However Indian fans will be holding their breath that Dravid can maintain his composure to guide his team to a stronger position.

- Australian scorecard - Glenn McGrath bowling with great skill and Shane Warne toiling hard

A patient and well played 50 there by Dravid, India's wall. Can he and Laxman get a draw out of this game??

We will just have to wait for the answer!!

McGrath has been awesome in this game, already picking up 9 wickets.

mcgrath or langer - langer because he was horribly out of form and batting was soo hard but mcgrath has carried everyone. appart from some stupid shots from the indians to let macgilll get 4 and a lucky ball from symonds for 1 mcgrath has carried everyone
