The Australians are starting very aggressively here. They need to maintain a partnership here. Nice work by Canada so far. Great works mate. This story is great.
Australia kept the tempo going at a quick rate but Canada snagged the vital wicket of Michael Clarke in the next 10 overs to keep the game very much so in the balance.
It was Matthew Hayden doing the damage to the Canadians, as the Queenslander hit 36 runs from the next 10 overs to keep Australia going at a strong run rate, including a huge six. Clarke and Hayden put on a good stand before Clarke was bowled after edging a wide ball back onto his off stump for a quick 31.
Osinde was the pick of the Canadians and had decent figures of 9-1-47-2 before his last over where Hayden and Symonds picked him off for 18 in his last. Australia were steady but a few more wickets and the Canadians could break open the game. On the other hand if Australia got a partnership going they could finish up well over 250.
Australia 4/143 (20.0 overs)
M. Hayden 65* (60), 12 fours, 1 six
A. Gilchrist 4 (3), 1 four
R. Ponting 16 (15), 4 fours
M. Hussey 0 (5)
M. Clarke 31 (23), 6 fours
A. Symonds 14* (14), 3 fours
It seemed Australia's objective was to make runs at any cost and the next 10 overs was a result of that, losing 3 big wickets but at the same time smashing 96 runs from 10 overs.
Hayden was first to go in the next period with finally impatience getting the better of him. He hit 16 runs in 21 balls in the next period before getting impatient and hitting one straight to midwicket. Symonds decided to try and lift the run rate but fell to a dubious LBW decision where it looked like it was sliding down leg.
Haddin and Hogg arrived at the crease and immediately started to smash it around, putting on a partnership of 34 in just a couple of overs before Haddin got a top edge which was well taken by Osinde.
Hogg and Lee caused demolition in the last overs, going crazy in a whirlwind of runs as Hogg smashed 31 off 15 and Lee hit 15 off 6. Australia still has 20 overs to bat, and the main focus for them will be to bat out the full 50 overs. Hogg survived a late chance with the keeper dropping a sitter of an edge which could've brought Mitchell Johnson to the crease.
If Canada can take a few more wickets the total is definitely still chaseable for them.
Australia 7/239 (30.0 overs)
M. Hayden 81 (81), 14 fours, 1 six
A. Gilchrist 4 (3), 1 four
R. Ponting 16 (15), 4 fours
M. Hussey 0 (5)
M. Clarke 31 (23), 6 fours
A. Symonds 30 (25), 7 fours
B. Haddin 14 (7), 3 fours
B. Hogg 31* (15), 5 fours, 1 six
B. Lee 15* (6), 2 fours, 1 six
Only positive for Canada is the wickets column of Aussies. I am just surprised that Australia wanting to bowl so soon as they are throwing away the wickets with plenty of overs left.
