Top 5 bowlers ever

I can only include the ones I've watched bowl (in no order):

  • Imran Khan
  • Curtley Ambrose
  • Wasim Akram
  • Waqar Younis
  • McGrath/Warne (the other four are irreplacable)

Sobers, a great pace bowler, and a great slow left armer, both finger spin and wrist spin. Worth a spot for that all-round bowling ability alone.

Bart King is an American cricketer who played his first class cricket prior to the first World War. Players who faced him said he was comfortably the best bowler they'd ever faced. On a tour to England with Philadelphia in 1908 he played 10 first class games and took 87 wickets at the amazing average of 11.01. This remained the best bowling average in an English season for more than 50 years. In his career he took 415 wickets at 15.67 in first class cricket , and in all cricket [font=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif][size=-1]took 2,088 wickets at an average of 10.47. Also once performed the impressive feat of taking 10 wickets in an innings followed by a hat-trick in the second.

Easily the best player never to play Test cricket.

Simply amazing....

i cant for the life of me work out why warne and muralitharan arent an automatic selection for the top 5 bowlers. they have taken the most wickets by a long way now and with still many more to come. shane warne brought leg spin back into world cricket and muralitharan has carried sri lanka and proved himself against the best in the world constantly for a decade... dispite the fact hey may throw the ball :p

Well mine is
1. Kapil Dev
2. Anil Kumble
3. Glen Mcrath
4. Dennis Leele
5. Bret Lee
Now I know it's just a matter of taste and opinion...but who the hell picks a bowler like Brett Lee over Wasim Akram!? And Kumble in the top 5 bowlers list!?

Statistically, kumble should be in the top 10, atleast top 15. But not top 5, because people like Murali, Warne, WI quatret, Lillee, R.Hadlee always head the list. McGrath has not bowled to the best of the batsmen, barring Sachin, Lara and few others. Lillee, WI and Hadlee did. He is an all-time great, no doubts though. Murali and Warne because they revived both arts of spin bowling. Kumble would be the next great spin bowler but mind you there are atleast 20 other great bowlers not in the list.
