Stats are the only thing that makes Sehwag be comparable to players that are allot better then him. Without stats then Sehwag is nothing and doesn't rank in the top 20 batsman of the past decade.

Nobody mentioned Hayden except you Ben. Why do you always have to bring Hayden in every thread? And this thread says 'a batsman' not 'an opening batsman'. I just can't wait for Sehwag to score a big hundred in the 2nd test, that will shut some people up about Sehwag not getting a hundred in NZ in tests.

Is any one here saying, Sehwag as no 1 or no 20? One thing which you guys have to understand is, if Sehwag gets the job of say, 30 runs in 12 balls or 15 balls in an ODI, his job is done. Thats the flying start we expect from him. And if he goes on, we are getting benefit else it helps other batters to continue the momentum!

No-body here claims Sehwag as no 1! Just because Sachin has 40+ century stats, it doesn't mean he is no:1 in current era.. I always don't go by stats.

And for your information, it's just a second tour for Sehwag to NZ. In last tour though he didn't get runs in tests, the big 100 he got in NZ ODI (last tour) still stays in memory of many people. From the way you say, it seems Sehwag has played many NZ tours. You forgot the smashing 195 runs by Sehwag in Australia? :p

Sehwag is just a fire cracker of Indian team. When it burst out, opponents are annoyed by the unbearable noise. If it's not bursting out, not at all a worry.. It will burst some other time :p

No, I'm saying Gayle would average over 50 aswell if he was in Sehwag's situation.

West Indian pitches are pretty slow and flat, most of the time. There is the odd shocker, but that can be said about Indian tracks too.

Sehwag is overrated by many and underrated by others. He struggles in seaming conditions but seams (:p) to have turned the corner recently in both ODI and Test cricket and is looking more at ease at the crease all over the world. I certainly back him to overturn his poor record in New Zealand in this tour.

This thread is targetted at me

for my opinion on Sehwag and comparisons between Sehwag and Hayden.

Again Matthew Hayden! I just wanted to discuss a point, Ben. I've said earlier, saying it again- nobody in India thinks that Sehwag is greater than Hayden at least, right now. I didn't target this thread at anybody, for your kind information. And I included you in the polls just for fun, because you are always pessimistic about Sehwag, nothing else.

And BTW, why have you included HP_fan's post in your sig? It makes no sense. He was just being sarcastic about you for your attitude towards some cricket players. And if you so badly want to include his post, then include the full post, why twist it? Where's the sarcastic smiley? I think you know very well what the post reads if you include the smiley, really Ben

Well for me he's a mixture of hard hitter + slogger. He's really not overrated because whatever he does he does it really well and as Ravi Shastri said, he's now got the license to play his natural game and its working for him which is a good thing.

He's not a slogger. A slogger is someone who mindlessly goes after almost every ball. Sehwag always has a plan, and although he attacks the good balls as well as the bad balls, he uses proper cricketing strokes to maneuver the ball around the ground.

I don't know what's more astonishing. Your unbelievable stupidity when it comes to assessing me or the fact that 4 members of this forum actually believe that I'm Virender Sehwag!

Why did I put Harry Potter's quote in my signature? Well if you looked at his signature, he quoted me first for whatever reason (Looks like pointless plot to humiliate me but it's failed because I put the same quote in my sig) and I decided to do the same thing. It's called fairplay. But seriously, even for an 10 year old, you are acting very immaturely. Chill out.

Virender Sehwag is overrated. Don't like it? Don't make the thread.

Lol, it's pointless to use stats with Sehwag. He doesn't care who the bowler is, where he's playing, or what the pitch is like. If his mind is in the right place, it won't make any difference.

Virender Sehwag as an Opening Batsman in New Zealand & South Africa:
Code:
		Mat	Inns	Runs	Ave
Overall 6	9	88	9.77
in SA 3	5	49	9.75
in NZ 3	4	39	9.80

Cricinfo Statsguru - V Sehwag - Test matches - Batting analysis
If you're going to use 6 Test matches to judge a player in 2 different countries, then players like Ponting and even Hayden could be ridiculed for failing on two tours to two separate countries. So, some threshold must be used for the qualifying number of matches before you start using averages intelligently.

Secondly, let's summarize that 2002-03 New Zealand tour:

1st Test: India 161 and 121; New Zealand 247 and 36/0
2nd Test: India 99 and 154; New Zealand 94 and 160/6

Team Stats
Total runs scored: 1072 (8 innings)
Total runs scored in completed innings: 876 (6 innings)
Total wickets: 66
Highest completed innings: 247
Average runs per wicket: 16.24
Average completed innings score: 146
Average overall score: 134/9
Average opening partnership: 14
Average opener's score: 12.67

Individual Stats
Hundreds: 0
Fifties: 3
Highest score: 89 (Mark Richardson)
Ducks: 9
Single-figure scores: 37 (out of 66 completed innings)

So you see, judging Sehwag's potential in New Zealand by that one series would be foolhardy at best since batsmen quite clearly failed in that series.

Yeah, but as far as his average goes, his overrated.

Sehwag scored two triple centuries against quality attacks of Pakistan and South Africa.

Hayden scored his triple century against Zim.

Heard of joke polls?

Why do you think he's overrated? Till now you have failed to give any proper reasons. When it comes to a two-year old baby who is opening the batting for the aussies right now, he is absolutely fine- next Sachin Tendulkar (with no proper reason whatsoever), and when it comes to a player who has scored two triples against two of the most dangerous bowling attacks , "oh no, look at him, he's overrated, only stupid people will say he's a good batsman" Lol at you! No wonder you got banned. I say you get your head checked before posting anything here.
