Saleh fires Bangladesh back into the game

Despite wickets falling around him, Rajin Saleh comes in and holds firm, and smashes plenty of boundaries, and his quickfire knock puts Bangladesh back into the game

Jonathan Agnew: Thomas runs in and oh, that's going to be flicked for four again, another boundary for Saleh, and it brings up a breathtaking fifty

geoffboycotttranssmallyk1.jpg
Geoff Boycott: That's a superb innings, he's been really the only batsman to put the Welsh bowlers to the sword, he's come in and not just swung his bat like a daft idiot, he has got the runs quickly but with great technique and knowing which balls to hit and which not, and you have to say it's back in the balance. This young lad has really given them a chance out of nowhere, because before this young batsman came in the run rate was slow, so Bangladesh really needed this knock, and Wales will be concerned right now.

jonagnewtranssmallir1.jpg
Jonathan Agnew: Croft trots in and Mahmud goes, big, he might be caught here, down the ground...yes he is, a great catch taken on the mid off boundary by Cosker, and that is another wicket for the Welsh, 197-6 for now

geoffboycotttranssmallyk1.jpg
Geoff Boycott: Well that's another, and that will really put the pressure now on Bangladesh. The loss veteran all rounder Khaled Mahmud, an experianced head, he was slighlty unlucky to be caught just inside, almost a six, but Croft invited this shot, and has his man, but they really have to take these sort of risks now, and that risk tag attached to shots like that and this current situation will make it hard for Bangladesh.

BAN 197-6

Woops I just made a big mistake and ruined this post

I managed to recover this...

Wales have to bowl well in this final over where Bangla needs 9 runs. I think Wales will sneak through.

Saleh the hero as Bangladesh snatch an amazing victory on Wales's international debut

victorymontageho1.jpg

jonagnewtranssmallir1.jpg
Jonathan Agnew: Steffan Jones, to bowl this final over, needs to hold his nerve, as he runs into Rajin Saleh, on middle stump, driven, and will Cosker come round to cut it off, no he can't, and that's a big boundary for the Tigers

geoffboycotttranssmallyk1.jpg
Geoff Boycott: Yes, superb timing, but it was a nothing sort of ball by Jones, and this game is slipping away the Welsh, and you just need one look at the Welsh captain, Powell, to know that

--------------------------------------------

jonagnewtranssmallir1.jpg
Jonathan Agnew: So, what can Jones do to put Wales back in the game,

geoffboycotttranssmallyk1.jpg
Geoff Boycott: A wicket wouldn't be a bad idea Aggers,

jonagnewtranssmallir1.jpg
Jonathan Agnew: Yes, indeed, and it's short, Saleh cuts away, in the air, will it be caught, no it goes past a diving Cherry, and worse still it goes to the fence, and the scores are level

geoffboycotttranssmallyk1.jpg
Geoff Boycott: Well the Welsh bowlers haven't held their nerve, Saleh does it again, lucky that it evaded the fielder, but, he's deserved that sort of luck Rajin Saleh, as he looks to have guided them to victory with 4 balls remaining

--------------------------------------------

jonagnewtranssmallir1.jpg
Jonathan Agnew: It's going to take something special to prevent a remarkable Bangladesh victory, as Jones runs in, and this could be it, no it falls safe from the cut, and it reaches the boundary, and that's it Bangladesh win by 2 wickets, and cor Geoffery what game!

geoffboycotttranssmallyk1.jpg
Geoff Boycott: Well, it was Aggers, but the pace bowlers never backed up the superb bowling from the spinners, and however well Bangladesh, and especially this young lad Saleh palyed, this is one whey really should have won, they failed to press home their advantage, but a great comeback from Bangladesh. A thrilling finish, but a harsh lesson, which Wales will learn from.

BAN 242-8 (49.3)
Saleh 67* (55)
Abdur Razzak 0 (0)

Bangladesh win by 2 wickets

Post Match Interview

manishbhasintranssmallid5.jpg
Manish Bhasin: Here I have the winning captain, Habibul Bashar, and how does it feel to win a game like that, especially in that fashion?

Habibul Bashar: It's a gret feeling, obviously to win any day, but, as you say in that way makes it all the much better.

manishbhasintranssmallid5.jpg
Manish Bhasin: Yes, at 197-6, it looked very hard for you, did you ever believe that victory was out of sight?

Habibul Bashar: No, not at all, because it's not over, until the final ball, and fortunately Rajin has come in for us and played a blinder of a knock to help win us the game, but I have to give thanks to Sarkar, who set up the foundations for us, and the bowlers, who I think did well for us to restrict Wales.

manishbhasintranssmallid5.jpg
Manish Bhasin: Now I have the losing captain, Michael Powell, well a decent debut, but ultimately ending in defeat for you

Michael Powell: Yes, I think we equipped ourselves well in certain aspects of the game, others not so well. Crucially we lost our nerve when we needed it most, and that is what is required at this level, but having said that, it was an amazing knock by Saleh, but not making excuses though, as we were far too expensive. I think we should hopefully learn from this, as many of these players haven't played in these sort of conditions before.

manishbhasintranssmallid5.jpg
Manish Bhasin: Yes, for you personally a good performance, despite the defeat

Michael Powell: well, yes I think I did well, but it was one of those wickets which you had to play yourself in, as you can see by the scores. But really for me the team comes first, and Thomas came in and gave me support, and while Crofty and Cosker bowled well, it was very guting to collapse and fall apart like that at the end, but like I say, I hope we will learn from this, for the next match here on Friday 5th

what a match this has been.. :clap Wales unforgettable debut match! suprise that Zorax didnt turn up to see his fav team winning by a close margin once again in Planet Cricket :D

i feel, Banga are capable of pulling close victories ;) Also my MOTM wud be Saleh for his heroic performance without which Wales wud won at ease!:)

Post Match Interview : MOTM: Rajin Saleh

65155.jpg

manishbhasintranssmallid5.jpg
Manish Bhasin: Here I have the Man of the Match with me now, Rajin Saleh, how does it feel to have contributed in such a way like that?

Rajin Saleh: Um...it feels great, yes, the important thing was to gain the victory as we set out to do, and I was happy to come in with a good knock to help us win the game.

manishbhasintranssmallid5.jpg
Manish Bhasin: Yes, when you came in did you have any particular mindset or plan to help come in and win the game?

Rajin Saleh: Not especially, I knew we had to push on a bit, but really I didn't come out with an attacking plan. I suppose I just saw the ball well, I started off well, hitting the ball well, and from there I just carried on from there really. I managed to pull it off really, and got a bit lucky!
