Wales have been hit with an injury blow before the 2nd One day International in Chittagong, with opening batsman Ian Thomas getting an knee injury. The 27 year-old sustained the injury in training at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong, when he turned akwardly, and is likely to be out for 4-8 months. However his replacement is surprisingly not a like-for-like replacement, with young fast bowler, Huw Waters, taking his place. The former England Under 19 player was delighted with his call-up, "I'm delighted to be given this opportunity to perform on the international stage and to represent my country in this new era. I hope to take this opportunity although I wish Ian a good recovery."
Second ODI Chittagong : Pitch Report and Team Line Ups
Jonathan Agnew: Welcome to Chittagong for this the 2nd ODI between Bangladesh and Wales, a must win game for the Welsh and now we can have a pitch report from Geoff Boycott:
Geoff Boycott: Thanks Aggers. Well this pitch is as dry as toast and ideal for batting and some help for the spinners. It's really spitting feathers and the only way this pitch will get damp is by the sweat coming off my brow, as it is really humid out here. It's going to be a hard night for the bowlers and batting first is really an automatic choice.
Jonathan Agnew: Thanks Geoff. Bangladesh won the toss and indeed they decided to bat. Just one change in the Bangladesh line-up with Manjural Islam replacing Alok Kapali, and the hero from the last game, Rajin Saleh moving up a place to number 4. As for Wales, quite a few changes, Hughes, O'Shea and Waters, who was only called up a few days ago, replacing the injued Ian Thomas, Rees and Grant. A slightly long tail for Wales with Steffan Jones at No.8, and Robert Croft coming in as pinch hitter opener. Well the players will be coming out soon, and we are hoping for another enthralling contest...
Jonathan Agnew: A rapid start for the hosts, 18 without loss, as Steffan Jones runs in to bowl to Javed Omar, the last ball of the 2nd over, and he goes aerial again, driving, and this may be one too many, could be out, yes it's caught, and the catch by the debutant Waters is met with silence as Omar goes early again
Geoff Boycott: Well, to be honest it's daft cricket really. A rush of blood to the head really, it was there to hit, overpitched, but to drive in the air when he knows the man is out there is stupid really. He has given his wicket away, and given the Welsh bowlers the initiative when, in all honesty, they don't deserve.
Jonathan Agnew: Harrison comes in, and Sarkar just pushes that square on the offside, and they are running a quick single, Croft turns, throws, oh that could be out! It is! Well, the umpire at square leg, Asad Rauf, doesn't even go to the third umpire, no hesitation, and Bangladesh in trouble now, captain, Habibul Bashar, run out for 6, 30-2
Geoff Boycott: I like to see that in umpires, making decisions for themselves, as it looked out, no need to waste time. A big wicket, because he is a useful little player, Bashar, it was a risky run, and good fielding, and you just feel it wasn't the right time to take a risk like that.
Jonathan Agnew: Croft trots in to bowl, and oh what a glorious shot, it runs away for four, straight down the ground and perfect off drive
Geoff Boycott: Show the youngsters that one, a lovely shot, and the Welsh better be careful because if this guy stays in, especially with Saleh at t'other end.
Jonathan Agnew: ...and that's the end of the 40th over. Still no breakthrough for Wales. Both Saleh and Sarkar past fifties and causing problems for Wales again.
Geoff Boycott: Wales haven't bowled partically badly, but haven't bowled enough wicket taking deliveries. Give credit to these two though, they have really stuck in, and at the start it was really slow going, because the had graft hard for their runs, but the last few overs they have upped the ante a bit, and they should now push on these two and attack as the rate is the only problem at the moment. But these two have done brilliantly.
