I know there isnt alot of interest in Windies cricket on these forums but me being a West Indies fan i decided to make a thread for the KFC Cup and give the West Indies domestic season some exposure.

Plus with the Stanford 20/20 later on in the year it might be a exciting one, $5 mill in prize money.

Squads: http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/westindies/content/squad?object=312226

Trinidad and Tobago are the defending champions and they look like the favourites again but Jamaica has a good squad too. Really interested to see how Amit Jaggernauth and Darren Sammy do in this cup both look like good prospect for the future.

October 16/2007

Guyana vs Windward Islands
Guyana won by 3 wickets (with 7 balls remaining). Windward Islands 179/9 (50 ov); Guyana 180/7 (48.5 ov)

Guyana-Sarwan 70, Deonarine 29
Windward Islands-Sammy 58, Hector 37

Guyana-RCrandon 3/32, ECrandon 2/22
Windward Islands-Sammy 2/36, Pascal 2/43

Trinidad & Tobago vs Combined Campuses and Colleges
Match tied. Trinidad & Tobago 252 (49.2 ov); Combined Campuses and Colleges 252/9 (50 ov)

T&T-DGanga 71, Bravo 64
CCC-Reifer 130, Phillips 34

T&T-Pollard 3/48, Emerit 2/24
CCC-Catlin 2/44, Chattergoon 2/48

I guess the biggest surprise is that the T&T and Combined Campuses and Colleges game ended in a tie. Floyd Reifer made an excellent 130(MOM) while on the other side both Ganga and Bravo made half centuries with Keiron Pollard collecting 3 wickets while Bravo and Jaggernauth went without a wicket.

In the other match Guyana got the win over the Windward Islands but that was expected of them. Darren Sammy got the only half century for the Windward Islands and he chipped in with 2 wickets, prooving that he is an All-Rounder for the future. For Guyana Sarwan top scored with a 70 which really prooved to be the difference as nobody else scored more than 29.

I'll be interested to see how this gos. Thanks for the updates.

Barbados vs West Indies Under-19s
Barbados won by 8 wickets (with 265 balls remaining). West Indies Under-19s 18 (14.3 ov); Barbados 22/2 (5.5 ov)

No need to do individual performances since this was probably the biggest blowout there can be, West Indies Under 19s were bowled out for 18 in 14.3 overs. Pedro Collins was on fire if that can even be said, he finished with 7/11 with Fidel Edwards getting 2 for 4. Top score for the under 19s was 7 by Joshua Brooks while the fast bowler Jason Daws got the 2 Barbados wicket.

Jamaica vs Leeward Islands
Jamaica won by 6 wickets (with 61 balls remaining). Leeward Islands 167 (44.3 ov); Jamaica 169/4 (39.5 ov)

Leeward Islands-Omari Banks 62, Runako Morton 44
Jamaica-Parchment 40, Shawn Findlay 41

Leeward Islands-Banks 2/46, Lionel Baker 1/22
Jamaica-Jerome Taylor 3/34, DPowell 1/35

Captained by Chris Gayle Jamaica completed the expected win over the Leeward Islands by successfully chasing 167 in 39.5 overs. Jerome Taylor got 3 wickets as he looks to regain his form with 4 other bowlers chipping in with a wicket each. Omari Banks got 2 wickets for the Leeward Islands and top scored for his side with 62 with the captain Morton scoring 44.

Guyana vs Combined Campuses and Colleges
Guyana won by 99 runs. Guyana 279/8 (50 ov); Combined Campuses and Colleges 180 (45.5 ov)

Guyana-Travis Dowlin 119, Sewnarine Chattergoon 46
CCC-Romel Currency 38, Ramnarine Chattergoon 37

Guyana-Mahendra Nagamootoo 2/27, Neil McGarrell 2/23
CCC-Jason Bennett 3/44, Craig Emmanuel 2/47

An excellent century by Travis Dowlin and good support by Chattergoon, Sarwan (38), Deonarine (27) helped Guyana put up a formidable total of 279/8 which in the end proved to be too much for the Combined Campuses and Colleges who had to do without their 1st game hero Floyd Reifer.

T&T vs Windward Islands
Trinidad & Tobago won by 7 wickets (with 180 balls remaining). Windward Islands 142 (45.5 ov); Trinidad & Tobago 144/3 (20 ov)

Windward Islands-Darren Sammy 34, Shane Shillingford 22
T&T-Lendl Simmons 68, Dwayne Bravo 31

Windward Islands-Merwin Matthew 1/27, Rawl Lewis 1/35
T&T-Ravi Rampaul 4/26, Dwayne Bravo 2/27

A good bowling performance from Rampaul and Bravo with some good support from Dillon, Emrit, Pollard helped T&T restrict the Windward Islands to 142 from 46 overs. Trinidad & Tobago made short work of the target chasing it down in 20 overs, Lendl Simmons scored 68 while Bravo continued his excellent form with both bat and ball with Daren Ganga chipping in with 24.

Haha yeah, I read about this match on another forum. Pretty dire effort from the U-19s.

Barbados vs Leeward Islands
Barbados won by 14 runs. Barbados 230 (48.4 ov); Leeward Islands 216 (41.1 ov)

Barbados-Jonathan Carter 71, Dale Richards 57
Leeward Islands-Runako Morton 65, Javier Liburd 30

Barbados-Fidel Edwards 5/61, Dwayne Smith 2/20
Leeward Islands-Lionel Baker 2/39, Justin Athanaze 2/33

The batting of Carter and Richards and the bowling of Fidel Edwards turned out to be the difference in this match with only the experienced Morton scoring a half century for the Leeward Islands. In a match filled with extras Barbados 27 (Edwards 11nb/2w), Leeward Islands 27 (4 bowlers with 4 or more wides) the experienced Barbados bowlers proved to be the difference.

Jamaica vs West Indies Under-19s
Jamaica won by 9 wickets (with 222 balls remaining). West Indies Under-19s 110 (36.4 ov); Jamaica 112/1 (13 ov)

Under 19s-Joshua Brooks 36, Rajindra Chandrika 18
Jamaica-Chris Gayle 71, Brenton Parchment 24

Under 19s-Elrick Thomas 1-14
Jamaica-Tamar Lambert 3/9, Nikita Miller 3/15

Another dismal performance by the under 19s sees them bowled out for 110 in 36.4 overs with Lambert and Miller picking up 3 wickets each and Darren Powell finishing with 2. Jamaica chased down the target with ease, the captain Gayle top scoring with 71

Windward Islands vs Combined Campuses and Colleges
Windward Islands won by 5 wickets (with 98 balls remaining). Combined Campuses and Colleges 131 (39.1 ov); Windward Islands 132/5 (33.4 ov)

CCC-Omar Phillips 26, Floyd Reifer 26
Windward Islands-Darren Sammy 32, Donwell Hector 30

CCC-Kavesh Kantasingh 2/20, Shirley Clarke 2/42
Windward Islands-Rawl Lewis 3/20, Liam Sebastien 3/25

Another impressive performance with the bat for Sammy but it was the economical bowling of the Windward Islands bowlers that helped keep the CCC to a small total and eventually bowled them out in 39.1 overs.

Guyana vs Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidad & Tobago won by 4 wickets (with 24 balls remaining). Guyana 208/8 (50 ov); Trinidad & Tobago 209/6 (46 ov)

Guyana-Leon Johnson 50, Neil McGarrell 51
T&T-Kieron Pollard 52, Mario Belcon 47

Guyana-Neil McGarrell 1/31, Reon King 1/35
T&T-Ray Emrit 4/43, Kieron Pollard 1/17

A late stand by McGarrell and the debutant Johnson helped Guyana reach a total of 209 but that wasn?t gona be enough to hold off the defending champions. An excellent 52 by the youngster Pollard with Belcon (47), Ganga(37), Bravo (28) all chipping in to chase down the required total. A brilliant bowling performance by the experienced Ray Emrit (MOM) was the key to holding Guyana to a small total. Guyana were also without their captain Ramnaresh Sarwan.

yea i think i read somewhere that it was really hot and humid, the under 19s did win the toss but they chose to bat for some reason.
And when the ball is really swinging, Pedro Collins is hard to play by any standard.

Jamaica vs Barbados
Jamaica won by 6 wickets (with 42 balls remaining). Barbados 170 (50 ov); Jamaica 171/4 (43 ov)

Barbados-Ryan Wiggins 21, Fidel Edwards 21
Jamaica-Gayle 49, Shawn Findlay 39

Barbados-Pedro Collins 1/28, Fidel Edwards 1/29
Jamaica-Jerome Taylor 3/36, Donovan Sinclair 2/20

With 4 players top scoring with 21 Barbados never really got going as the middle order failed to put up runs, 170 all out in 50 overs was never gona be enough, good bowling from Jerome Taylor and a economical spell from the former Queensland player Brendan Nash (MOM) who finished with 1/11 from 10 overs ensured a easy chase for Jamaica. Jamaica chased down the set total with relative ease, captain Chris Gayle top scored for his side with some good support from Shawn Findlay (39), Brendan Nash (34) and Danza Hyatt (34).

Leeward Islands vs West Indies Under-19s
Leeward Islands won by 5 wickets (with 12 balls remaining). West Indies Under-19s 159 (46.4 ov); Leeward Islands 160/5 (48 ov)

WI Under 19s-Chesney Hughes 31, Darren Bravo 24
Leeward Islands-Omari Banks 55, Steve Liburd 30

WI Under 19s-Jason Dawes 3/42, Chesney Hughes 1/17
Leeward Islands-Chaka Hodge 3/17, Omari Banks 2/18

A better performance by the West Indies Under-19s but it still wasn’t enough to earn them their 1st win of the tournament. Top score of 31 by Hughes and 24 from Darren Bravo the younger brother of Dwayne Bravo wasn’t enough to put a decent total on the board. The Leeward Islands took their time chasing down the small target set by the Under 19s finally completing the chase in the 48th over. Omari Banks 55 was the top score for his side and along with his 2 wickets it earned him the MOM award. But the really story is Jason Dawson the young fast bowler from Jamaica picked up 3 wicket as he continued his excellent form in the tournament.

so the Semis are set,

1s Semi Jamaica vs Guyana
2nd Semi Barbados vs Trinidad & Tobago

Jamaica vs Guyana
Jamaica won by 7 wickets (with 16 balls remaining). Guyana 159/9 (43/43 ov); Jamaica 160/3 (40.2/43 ov)

Guyana-Sewnarine Chattergoon 66, Neil McGarrell 17
Jamaica-Shawn Findlay 64, Danza Hyatt 41

Guyana-Royston Crandon 1/20, Neil McGarrell 1/29
Jamaica-Brendan Nash 4/20 , Daren Powell 1/34

A poor showing by Guyana who only managed to score 159 of 43 overs, in a match shortened due to rain Guyana had to play without their captain and best player Ramnaresh Sarwan, a top score of 66 by Chattergoon went to waste as nobody else scored more than 17 runs. An excellent performance once again by Brendan Nash (MOM) who finished with 4/20 from 9 overs and some good batting from the middle order helped Jamaica make it to the final of the KFC Cup.

Trinidad and Tobago vs Barbados

Unfortunately this match was abandoned without a ball bowled. Based on wining their group T&T advanced to the finals for the 2nd year in a row. To me its a bit stupid that T&T get to go to the finals without the match being played, maybe they could have rescheduled it for Saturday. This must suck for the Barbados squad.

Jamaica vs Trinidad & Tobago
Jamaica won by 28 runs. Jamaica 230 (50 ov); Trinidad & Tobago 202 (49.3 ov)

Jamaica-Brenton Parchment 52, Danza Hyatt 28
T&T-Lendl Simmons 64, Danesh Ramdin 48

Jamaica-Jerome Taylor 3/37, Chris Gayle 3/32
T&T-Sherwin Ganga 3/31, Samuel Badree 3/36

Well Jamaica are the 2007 KFC Cup champions. After they managed to put up 230 from 50 overs Trinidad & Tobago just couldn?t get a good partnership going. At one point Jamaica were at 103/5 but some good batting from the lower order saw them put up a decent total for T&T to chase. The 7,8,9 and 10 batsman added 89 to help a good innings from Parchment not go to waste. While Lendl Simmons 64 was a good starting point for the chase T&T just kept loosing wickets at regular intervals and only the 5th wicket was worth a decent total as Danesh Ramdin and Kieron Pollard added 51. The key to Jamaica preventing a successful chase from T&T was preventing Daren Ganga and Dwayne Bravo to put up a big score, Jerome Taylor and Daren Powell took care of that Ganga caught by Baugh of Taylor and Powell got Bravo lbw. Taylor got the Man of the Match award for his fine innings with the ball, he also finished as the highest wicket taker in the tournament with 11 wickets at an average of 17.18.

A litle lait on this one but there are still plenty of matches to go. With the West Indies tour of South Africa going on there are alot of spots to be filled and a chance for the youngsters to show what they got.
Adrian Barath is playing and so is Darren Bravo and both will play for West Indies under 19s at the upcoming world cup.

So far the leading run scorer is Ramnaresh Sarwan with 305 runs from 2 matches at a average of 101.66.
The leading wicket taker is Jamaican fast bowler Odean Brown with 17 wickets from 2 matches at a average of 9.23.

I will post all the results and scores as the matches are completed.
