Day 1 Summary:

Ian: " Well its the close of day 1 of this first test between england and the west indies, which is of a low scoring affair. Strauss's 67 was all too important for england, and in the final session england put on 50 for the last 3 wickets, which was quite good. Matthew Hoggard coming to town with his important 32 as a lower order taile ender, which really frustrated the west indies. But the west indies will still feel confident of their chances, but it will be still difficult to bat on tomorrow as the pitch will be green and the weather forecast predicts that there may be some rain in the air. In reply the west indies have lost Chris Gayle, for 3 thanks to a diving catch at cover by Butcher. But it was good tight bowling from the west indies, mainly from all bowlers used by Brian Lara. Your thoughts Jeffoery..."

Jeff: " Yea I think the west indies bowled pretty well to get england out in almost a full day, however they had to negotiate a tricky 45 mins of play, which england managed to pick up Chris Gayle. But i must say that conditions will continue to favour the bowlers, so england should be encouraged. The west indies need to bat extremely well here to build a goodish total."

Ian: " We'll be back tomorrow same time at 10 am for the start of day 2."

Ian: " Welcome to the start of day 2 of this 1st npower test match between the west indies and england. We now go down to Ian Bishop with the pitch analysis."

Bishop: " Well today its a bowler friendly wicket, its green and overcast and the west indies will really have a hard time negotiating this second day's play. So england need to keep the ball in the right areas."

Ian: " Well its really bad news at the moment, because at the time that the umpires are walking out, the rain has spoiled the start of the second day's play. So for the time being play has been called off for further inspection."

David: " Well after a further inspection at lunch time, the umpires have decided to call off play for good on this second day. Really disappointing for this crowd and for viewers all around the world. so hopefully if this inclement weather clears, paly should resume at 9 :45 am. Good bye..."

Mikey: " Good morning to all, welcome to the 3rd day of this npower first test between england and the west indies. The skies still have a bit of rain, and it will be a 40/60 chance of a full day's play today, but we should begin promptly. We go to our pitch analyser, Ian Bishop."

Bish: " Another, day for the fast bowlers, as the rain fall has left if not more moisture in it, so the ball will dart around. A tough task for the batsmen out there again, so it will be a very interesting day's play."

Mikey: " Well the west indies have slowly progressed to 78/3, and england may sniff a chance of trying to restrict the west indies to a decent score. I say this because they have got the big fish, brian lara, with just 25 mins before lunch. Simon Jones must be elated, to get his wicket. But with Smith still there, they would be hoping to get up to 176 and most likely try to start building on a lead, remebering that tomorrow is the 4th day. So the session after lunch, and after tea will be so vital."

Ian: " Yes mikey, england bowlers have bowled with purpose, good control on this green wicket. They need to keep it up and try to knock over a couple of west indian wickets to expose the tail. But they need to keep chipping away at these batsmen, and it will be a vital session coming up."
