Hello, and welcome to the West Indies tour of South Africa with SKY SPORTS. The two test nations will clash in three tests, one Twenty20 and 5 ODIs. Make sure you don't miss any of the action in what will surely be an exciting series. We'll be here today bringing you all the action from the first test in Cape Town.

We're just about ready for the toss but before that we need to look at the pitch and find out what the best decision for the captain who wins it will be.

pitchau3.jpg

The Pitch looks good at the moment but is a little bit dry and dusty so is likely to give movement to the spinners later on in the match. Seamers will also benefit from some uneven bounce in the later stages of the game. Best decision is to bat first and get runs on the board.

Graeme Smith calls HEADS! and it's... tails.
West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan chooses to bat first.

The news from the middle is that the West Indies have won the toss and will bat first. We've decided that's a good decision based on the pitch conditions. Stay tuned, we'll be back with all the action from the first session of play in this test series, right after this.

Welcome back for the first session in the first test match between South Africa and the West Indies here in Cape Town. The players are just making their way out into the middle so let's get down there in time for the start of play.

openersme9.jpg
The two West Indian openers Gayle and Ganga will be hoping to get the West Indies off to a good start in this test match, and this tour. Gayle hit a mammoth 317 against South Africa in 2005, he'll be hoping to get somewhere near that again.

It will be Makhaya Ntini opening the bowling for South Africa, he will be hoping to regain some of his form from 2006 when he took nearly 50 test wickets.

Day 1: First Session
West Indies 0/0
Gayle 0
Ganga 0

SKY SPORTS BULLETIN

South Africa are off to the best of starts here in Cape Town with a wicket in their first over! Chris Gayle defended the first three deliveries before Ntini swung one back into the left-hander right in the blockhole, the ball crashing into Gayle's boots. Initially he was oblivious to the South Africans' appeals as he hopped about in pain, but then the Umpire's finger went up and the roar around the ground brought him back with the realisation that he was out for a duck.

Hawkeye clearly shows the ball would have hit middle stump, as plumb as you will see.

The captain Ramnaresh Sarwan is the next man in. He survives the final two deliveries of the over but the early dismissal of Gayle will heap even more pressure on him and he will need to play at his best to get West Indies back in the driver's seat.

Day One: First Session, One over bowled
West Indies 0/1
Sarwan 0
Ganga 0
Last wicket: Gayle 0 (4) LBW Ntini

Firstly, i should say, " A Stunning/Mindblowing " presentation. Keep it up. :hpraise

And regarding this match, its not a suprise to see Gayle going in this way.. Gayle, infact, is known for his inconsistency these days.. Never know, when he fires and when he goes cheaply. ;) Big pressure on Sarwan now.

SKY SPORTS 20 OVER BULLETIN

Bowling at the other end from Ntini is Shaun Pollock.

pollockzb0.jpg

After losing Gayle early on the West Indies need a good partnership, Sarwan seems to be going well but Ganga is having trouble at the other end. The bowlers are using lots of bouncers and Ganga can't cope, he has already taken a bad one on the elbow.

gangahitxa7.jpg

A huge chance came for South Africa when a rare full delivery brought Ganga into the drive and he edged to gully. The chance was low and very difficult but really should have been taken, Graeme Smith will not be happy that it went down.

droppedyo4.jpg

The South Africans did not have to wait long for the wicket of Ganga however when he played a stroke completely down the wrong line and had his off-stump sent flying by Pollock. He went for 10 and will be dissapointed as he gave his wicket away.

gangaoutms3.jpg

Shivnarine Chanderpaul is next out and is West Indies' most experienced player. He will need all that experience to help his team out of this predicament. With a test average of 46.63 he is a notoriously difficult man to get out.

chanderpaulhs6.jpg

Sarwan and Chanderpaul do their best to advance the score playing some maginificent drives, cuts and leg glances which find the boundary thanks to excellent timing.

rotstopfa8.jpg

The shots helped the two batsment put on 40 for the 3rd wicket leaving the score at 61/2 after 20 overs.

scorecardts4.jpg

Ntini and Pollock are the only bowlers to be used so far and seem to be keeping things pretty tight.

If we look at Ntini's pitchmap we can see why his economy is so low with balls of various length being bowled on a very good line.

Day one: First Session, 20 overs bowled
West Indies 61/2
Sarwan 33
Chanderpaul 15
Last Wicket Ganga 10 (30) Bowled Pollock

Fantastic!! Fantastic!! Fantastic!! Top class presentation :hpraise

Well, I expected the other opener's wicket too.. Chanderpaul/Sarwan are the last hopes for Windies in my opinion.. otherwise, there are good chances of famous Windies collapse to occur. :p

Windies miss Lara very much :(
