Who SHOULD be the English Wicket-Keeper

Has there been any evidence that Prior is the one to be picked? cause judging by history the english stick by someone who has filled the gap

Different coach though, plus despite Nixon doing a good job, picking someone who won't be playing at the next world cup (probably) seems a bit pointless doesn't it?

I literally have no idea what way they will go. Prior's early season form has been iffy.

Different coach... Same Selectors thats wjhere you need changes

What are Priors stats for this season so far?

A good player out of form is better to have than a bad player in form

Another name to throw into the mix is Tom New, Nixon's understudy at Leicestershire. How much exposure he gets will depend on whether or not Nixon gets a test call up or not, however he's only 22, so has plenty of time.

By the way, does anyone have any thoughts on when a keepers 'peak' years are considered to fall between? I'd have thought it would have been around 29 - 33 but can't ever remember it being discussed.

I'd say your pretty much right with that AA. Just look at Boucher, he's half way through 30 and is in some of the best form of his career.

Well I'm basing it on when a goal keeper is considered to be at his best, in my mind they both contain similar skill sets.

Just thought by having a rough idea of when a keeper peaks it may help to isolate favourites for the England job. I think that early twenties is a bit too young and would ideally bring a keeper in for his first taste of international cricket around 25/26, allow him a year or so to settle and then expect the best from him for maybe 6 years or so (obviously allowing for one or two lean batting periods which even the best suffer from).

To be honest I'll take anyone who is tidy behind the stumps and can average late 30's with the bat.

I heard Nic Pothas might be able to qualify soon, Mark Wallace is worth a go perhaps

but Foster has been overlooked I think, Nixon is the best for me, but he is too old, but he wokrs so hard

I wouldn't say it's completely game over for Geraint Jones or Chris Read though

And what about Luke Sutton or Jonathon Batty?

Also Steve Davies is one for the future

Can somebody rate the English Wicket Keepers from 1 - 5 in terms of batting ability and wicket keeping ability that are avalible to play the first test

I don't really think that there is that much difference between the abilities behind the stumps and would say that most of them would score a 4.

It's the ability with the bat where the real difference lies and whoever can average mid 30's will get the job.

Pothas is an option but he's the wrong side of 30 and would only be a temporary choice and to be honest if they are only looking for someone to fill in for a year or so we may as well stick with Nixon.

Batting ability;
Davies
Prior
Foster
nixon
Read.

Only a very very small difference between the top 3 mind you.

Keeping ability;
Foster
Davies
Read
Prior
Nixon.

Haha
