Whose better?. Discuss..

On current form its Xavi by a long mile. At their peaks, its hard to tell but Pirlo I think is better goalscorer. Xavi still has a year or two left in his peak form.

He will be very crucial for Spain in the World Cup.

Xavi is right up there as one of the best going around. You could argue Messi makes him look better, but Xavi also makes Messi look better. Extremely underrated is Xavi's contribution to the Barcelona side.

Current form, Xavi. In their prime, Xavi. Class player.

Pirlo at his peak was marginally better in my opinion.

More prolific with his long range passing, set-pieces and long range shooting.

But both are underrated due to the movement in front of them.

Like Xavi's contributions are overlooked due to Messi's prolificiency, Pirlo was the same when Kaka and Sheva were at Milan with him.

Yea i reckon you have summarized it best.

If Pirlo had better strikers for both Milan & Italy to make use of his quality passes, like how Xavi has quality up front for Barca & Spain. I reckon people would still be noticing/talking about Pirlo.

At the moment, yes. But Pirlo used to play a big part for Milan in the big games a few seasons back, when they weren't as "old" as they are right now.

It is unfair to compare as their positions and roles are such that the difference could come down to the difference in the quality of the finishers that their respective sides have. Xavi has Messi and Pedro at Barca, and Villa and Torres at Spain.

So who do people think is better now after watching Pirlo in this tournament?

Essentially i've always reckoned at their best, playing with the right teams, they are essentially similar. Pirlo is one the few players in the world who fit into the Barca club and Spain national team.

Would be magical to see them playing in the same team for sure.

If I was making them as top trumps cards, there would be nothing in it. Both are just simply awesome central midfielders.

Data to help you.

Swap their nations around and those numbers would probably switch as well.

Can't be compared really.

Pirlo is the king of long passing, Xavi is the king of short passing.

Both can't be compared with each other or anyone in the world.

It's unfair to use stats to compare them, Spain is much better than Italy and Barca is much better than AC Milan and Juve. Puddleduck is spot on.
