Movie thread

I watched There Will Be Blood the other day. Best movie I've ever seen.

I saw that in the rental shop and thought, "hmmm". Without giving the story away, worth it?

I watched

1. The Love Guru
2. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

I just watched Hostel II. Damn that is some sick stuff going on there.

The plot of that film is rather stupid. Hostel 1 was good though.

Anyone ever watched "Salo"?, don't, it is absolutley DISGUSTING. The scary thing is it doesn't even touch on the book.

Without a doubt best movie I've ever seen. It struck a chord with me and at the end I was nearly shaking. Amazing film.

However, it really is one of those movies where you either hate it or love it. It's quite abstract. The music is done by Johnny Greenwood from Radiohead and it's eerie and deliberately off putting and the acting is suberb with Daniel Day Lewis winning the oscar for best performance in a lead role but it doesn't really play like a normal movie would.

Easily my favourite movie but I wouldn't be suprised if others hated it, it just really affected me.

Went to see Tropic Thunder tonight. Pretty good actually, not amazing, but yeah decent. Star studded line up anyway, Jack Black, Ben Stiller and Coogan.

Oh and Satan's Alley. :eek::D

Saw 3 movies in 3 days this week (good old holidays):

Brendan Fraser double - The Mummy 3 - was supposed to be the worst movie ever, wasn't quite as bad as its reputation but still not great. 2 and a half stars.
Journey to the centre of the universe - relied on cool FX but didn't have a very solid storyline and was boring. Same rating as above.

But the other movie I saw, which looked like it was going to be one of those bad movies that has some crude laughs but nothing else:

Step brothers - 4 stars. Seriously, one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. It's the Borat (2006)/Superbad (2007) of 2008. Just absolutely hillarious, not overdone at all, really funny stuff! For what it was trying to do (create a hillarious film with a stupid premise), it did it superbly. See it now!

I'm not a big Will Ferrell fan, but this is his first decent film since Anchorman, and it's much better than Anchorman too (which I loved at the time!)

Didn't notice Tom Cruise? :D Yeah funny movie, Stiller's best since Zoolander.

Just looked through my Netflix account and have watched 65 movies since the first week of March. A record for me I think. Been giving those people a workout. And that's not even counting the TV show seasons I watched through them. Watched three movies last week:

City of God: Excellent movie about the slums of Rio de Janero. Beautifully made and the movie flies by since you get engorged into it. One of the best I've seen this year, and that's saying something.

There Will Be Blood: Another excellent movie. Daniel Day Lewis was flawless in his role. Had me rooting for him halfway through the movie. A bit long but you hardly feel it.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels: A Guy Ritchie classic, before Snatch. Has a lot of the same elements but the story is just as good really. Still, I'd rate it under Snatch, but if you loved that movie, you'll really like this one.

Its gonna cost me £25 quid each for me to get myself and my girlfreind up there - still, all part of the pleasure;)

Haven't been to the cinema in a while, but some of the most recent film's I've watched of note have been:

There will be Blood - Actually I will buck the recent trend and say I didn't go much on this. The usual Daniel Day Lewis overacting by talking in a gruff voice movie. Far from terrible but a much better bet would be.....
No Country For Old Men - Really loved this.

Also seen recently

10000BC - Not bad, not great
Be Kind Rewind - Very weird but very funny
In Bruges - Just plain weird, but bloody good. London based hitmen hiding out in Belgium!! Nuff said.
Rescue Dawn - Not a bad Vietnam PoW film. Recommended
Taking Lives - Angelina Jolie in an average Canadian based Cop chases bad guy film, been done many times and much better, but it does have Jolie in it so it scores higher than it should!
The Bucket List - Pretty funny, old guys doing stuff before they die. Nicholson and Freeman star so you know its not going to suck totally.

Agree about No Country For Old Men and In Bruges, hadn't seen much of DD Lewis so this was my first experience and was a very very good one. Will be watching 10,000 BC tomorrow, haven't heard many positive reviews so far.
