I don't love movies often but this one was brilliant. Loved everything about it, especially the music! The kids were great actors, especially since they have just been plucked from the slums for the movie.

Anyone else seen it? Like it?

Was this a Hollywood or Bollywood made film? If it was Bollywood then I'm quite interested in what other movies India have to offer.

Although I don't think this movie will do India's tourism much good, they really did portray India to be a real craphole.

i found it as an OK movie tbh. WAY TOO over-hyped....

local inspectors speaking english with a thick indian
accent was a big turn off !
and i never knew that "slumdogs" can speak such fluent english
with a british accent !!

also,i dont how it is outside, but in india,if any game show host
humiliated a participant like that...the media / press would literally eat
him alive !!

the music was awesome though.

@tourism - as it is, india's been stereotyped for its
hot and sweaty climate, spicy food, poverty, dinginess, over-population etc...
this movie doesnt help it either.

That is a Movie and shows the reality of India nothing else.

That is true enough.

That aside, it's made by Danny Boyle, a British director, so I don't know if it's Hollywood, but definitely not Bollywood, and thank God for that!:)

It is a British movie with Indian artistes. Cannot call it Bollywood, or Hollywood. It won an Oscar (8 actually :p) because it was nominated as a foreign film.

I found the movie good, considering it was a commercial film, and not a documentary which many people have perceived it to be. Ever seen Bond flicks? super-gadget cars, etc.. How real are they?? It was a British movie, and I don't think it would have been appealing to have Hindi/Marathi dialogues with English subtitles throughout the movie, just because it was focusing on slums.

Rahman's music was incredible, and it rendered a feeling of Indian-ness in the movie.

Overall, a must watch. :)

Mumbai is not india.

and if your talking reality....have you ever seen hawaldars conversing in english ?? and "slumdogs" with british accents ??

this is neither a documentary nor a commercial flick.
its a mix of both.

i dont know what it is but its definitely not bollywood.

well aim is to show to western audience...so English was necessary.

Absolute rubbish.

Reality of India? What reality of India have they shown actually?

And from the some parts it was true, how many factors do you think that happen ONLY in India and nowhere else?

See, I liked the movie too, but to say it shows India's reality is absolute rubbish.

@Stevo, as Abhas said we can't really classify this as Hollywood / Bollywood, but there certainly are some movies which are worth watching and which bollywood has produced. To get started, try and see if you can find "16'th December" and "Chak De India" with subtitles, if not an english version (Highly unlikely though). :)

You will come to know the reality when you are grown up and will enter the real india....which is in streets my dear friend.....Come out and see the India not in Books and computers.

As for the language part, well that was necessary. It is an English film. I just saw Lawrence of Arabia and the Bedouins in it also speak English. Now I'm sure the Arabs will find that rather odd, but that doesn't really take anything away from the movie.
