Yeah, If that ad was a black guy giving chicken to lets say, the Barmy Army, then nobody would even consider it racist.
You have completely missed the point. In American culture there is a stereotype that black people like fried chicken. For example, there is also a stereotype that they like grape soda. While the ad did not have any malevolent intentions, it was nevertheless produced by an American company. The effect of globalization makes this difficult to understand, but the fact of the matter is that the ad was made out of money coming from America, where the stigma exists.Yeah, If that ad was a black guy giving chicken to lets say, the Barmy Army, then nobody would even consider it racist.
This has been cleared up already. KFC is an American company. For example, I doubt KFC would be very amused if their international entities made ads making fun of America, regardless of where the ads were shown.Funny thing is that the commercial was aimed at Australians and the West Indians and NOT Americans. The "black" people there were West Indians and NOT African Americans....lol.
You realise that KFC may have it's own headquarters there and it's multimillion advertisement company or something here. Australia isn't some backwater place with no money. You have completely missed the point. In American culture there is a stereotype that black people like fried chicken. fuzz the Raiders!! another stereotype for Mexicans would be following the Raiders
It doesn't matter if they have their own headquarters in Australia--corporate headquarters are still in the U.S. The shareholders are still Americans. KFC is an American brand. That's just how global companies work. If Foster's made an ad that was considered racist in Australia and screened it in the US where it wasn't considered racist, you'd see the same thing happening, with the roles reversed. You realise that KFC may have it's own headquarters there and it's multimillion advertisement company or something here. What's worse is that every chicken ad with a black man is 'racist', and it's only racist if you go looking for it.
This is funny though
