KFC pulls 'racist' Aussie cricket ad

Yeah, If that ad was a black guy giving chicken to lets say, the Barmy Army, then nobody would even consider it racist.

^ How could they? Barmy Army would sing "Hey Hey Ricky" in the background. :laugh

According to some Americans the Aussie KFC ad with some West Indian cricket fans is racist....lol. According to the Aussies, British, West Indians, Indians, Africans and basically everyone around the world, that ad was garbage BUT DEFINATELY NOT RACIST!!!

According to some politically correct Americans the crowd was also rowdy. West Indians are known to enjoy their cricket at the same fevered passion as the Indians, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans, English, Kiwis and Aussies.

This is an actual cricket match between the West Indies and Australia - St. Vincent's Arnos Vale Playing Field. Boy the actual match is far livelier than the commercial. The white guy didnt feel superior, he probably felt left out and wanted to be part of the action. I know that I would love to be in the West Indian stand in a cricket match, enjoying their carnival atmosphere.

Funny thing is that the commercial was aimed at Australians and the West Indians and NOT Americans. The "black" people there were West Indians and NOT African Americans....lol.

You have completely missed the point. In American culture there is a stereotype that black people like fried chicken. For example, there is also a stereotype that they like grape soda. While the ad did not have any malevolent intentions, it was nevertheless produced by an American company. The effect of globalization makes this difficult to understand, but the fact of the matter is that the ad was made out of money coming from America, where the stigma exists.

This has been cleared up already. KFC is an American company. For example, I doubt KFC would be very amused if their international entities made ads making fun of America, regardless of where the ads were shown.

Didnt you explain this already? Even with a clear cut ex of Andrew Symonds being a monkey? I thought it was pretty clear..

You realise that KFC may have it's own headquarters there and it's multimillion advertisement company or something here. Australia isn't some backwater place with no money.

What's worse is that every chicken ad with a black man is 'racist', and it's only racist if you go looking for it.
This is funny though

Raiders rule! I wish I could get a LA Raiders jersey.

He does do a joke about them in one of his other shows. Goes something like "I said something bad about the Raiders during one of my shows but I didnt know a few of them were in the crowd. So after the show they came up to me picked me up and pinned me against the wall...but luckily they fumbled me and I got away." Much better with his voice and expressions.

It doesn't matter if they have their own headquarters in Australia--corporate headquarters are still in the U.S. The shareholders are still Americans. KFC is an American brand. That's just how global companies work. If Foster's made an ad that was considered racist in Australia and screened it in the US where it wasn't considered racist, you'd see the same thing happening, with the roles reversed.
