KFC pulls 'racist' Aussie cricket ad

Raiders rule! I wish I could get a LA Raiders jersey.

He does do a joke about them in one of his other shows. Goes something like "I said something bad about the Raiders during one of my shows but I didnt know a few of them were in the crowd. So after the show they came up to me picked me up and pinned me against the wall...but luckily they fumbled me and I got away." Much better with his voice and expressions.

LOL i watched that. and LA Raiders didnt they have the same jersey? and all kinda Raiders suck!

Yea same jerseys except it said LA Raiders.

I like the 49ers too. Ever since they got Gore.

Fav team is the Ravens tho. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.

It doesn't matter if they have their own headquarters in Australia--corporate headquarters are still in the U.S. The shareholders are still Americans. KFC is an American brand. That's just how global companies work. If Foster's made an ad that was considered racist in Australia and screened it in the US where it wasn't considered racist, you'd see the same thing happening, with the roles reversed.

Actually no you wouldn't. Mainly because whats racist here is racist over there(they have our stereotypes but we don't have theres, if that makes sense). Tell me one thing that would offend Australians that America wouldn't know about? Australia only has a population of 22 million and doesn't think it rules the earth. I doubt Australia would get involved.

your now going some where totally irrelevant...it has nothing to do with America trying to rule the world or others typical view on America, America being the ruler of the world... trying to rule everything

I'm not familiar with what offends Australians so I couldn't possibly answer that question. But I am sure there is something that exists because the two countries are poles apart culturally. Historically, too, the countries are different with Australia having the convict background that was not related to anything that happened in the US. I am sure there are stereotypes about convicts and aborigines with racial undertones that do not exist in the US.

Again, you're completely missing the point. America's colonial instincts has nothing to do with this incident. If a local Australian chicken chain made these ads, no one in America would give a crap. KFC is an American brand and represents American culture. Profits made from KFC sales in Australia are still taxed in the US on some level because a lot of that profit comes back. Shareholders get dividend payments based on sales made in franchises in different countries. It would be irresponsible for an American company not to pull that ad, which would definitely be considered racist in America.

You see, there are jokes all the time about convicts but Australians generally don't care. America has aboriginals as well.

I just don't see it happening. People here are different than in the US. When there racist happening we don't go all psycho and get all depressed about it. Over here you say some racist jokes and you take some(whatever culture you are).

Well I'm sure nobody's sued anyone for caling them a Pom, or a Convict, or a Kiwi.

OMG!!! F*CK!!! YOU STILL DONT GET IT DO YOU!! JEZZZ! You are still rambling about the same thing, when some 1 clearly explained it more then 4 times WHY America cares about this so effing much! DONT EFFING CARE about 'what would Australia do'!! It's not about what would Australia do. So stop bringing that up!! It's easy as .... (there isnt even a word for it, thats how easy it is) KFC is an American Co. And Thats why they give a damn about it! Whats there not to get??? Why are you still on about this? Why are you still asking why America care? Seriously ... how old are you??

can we just close this thing

And it's not the 1st time. KFC Korea made a similar "offensive" commercial few years back. And it created controversy and was banned

Of course thats just obvious. I already said before that Australia would have had their own advertisers and would not have been American. So the Americans that got offended they believe some Americans did it because its an american company.

It's not the same as "you say some racist jokes and you take some". That's between friends and people. This is between corporations. Corporations can't just go about saying some racist things, expecting that they'll take some later. It's the same reason that governments and heads of offices have to be politically correct.

If an Australian company was making the so-called "racist jokes" in another country, there would be a reaction. It's not about one country caring more or less. It is about a corporation conducting business in a respectful manner. And corporations care a lot more about their image than people.

Please review the last few pages. You obviously do not understand what the term culture clash means. Here's making it really simple:

KFC = American
Fried chicken + black people = racist in America
KFC talking about fried chicken+black people = racist KFC

Doesn't matter where KFC does it, they're still bloody Kentucky Fried Chicken. They still answer to their American shareholders and they still pay their bills and taxes in America.

I don't have words to describe the preciseness, accurateness and the awesomeness about you, Sohum :hpraise

And yes, corporations are very image conscious. An example would be Cadbury, which ran campaigns for months and months here after worms were regularly found in their chocolates in India and people almost completely dumped Cadbury for Nestle.
