Best cricketer that never played a test?

why? the thread only says " Best cricketer that never played a test?"

Because you could throw in hundreds of names for sides before they became Test nations, or during bans like South Africa - where's the point in that?!?!?!/

Seems somewhat unfair to say David Hussey or Sales was a "better cricketer" than Sathasivam when Sathasivam's plight was he never had the oppertunity while Sales and David Hussey was that there was always too many better batsmen available.

Why on earth are you cross comparing and drawing conclusions A is better than B or C?!?!? I merely said that I thought it would be a better thread for having only players who were eligible to play in a Test than over-complicate with players who couldn't play because their country was banned. Yeah we know some cricketers missed out on playing because of bans or they hadn't yet become a Test nation, but why draw out a big list that means nothing because we KNOW why they didn't play Tests. Sales or Hussey are more interesting to discuss because you don't know for sure why they haven't played - especially given some of the rubbish that has played Tests.

maybe Franklyn Stephenson?

(792 wickets at 24.26 and 8622 runs at 27.99 in first class games; 1000 runs and 100 wickets in a County season; pioneer of the slower ball; played consistently well in Australia, WI, England and SA but nil tests for WI). Played rebel tests in SA so I cant love him, but anyway a contender for sure

or Brian Davison?
(27, 453 runs at 39.96 with 53 hundreds in first class games)

don't know why you're so upset about this. The point? i dunno, more comparisons.

OK, go make a thread called "best cricketer never to be selected for tests" it's a different discussion. You didn't start this one though so why don't try to steer it in a direction that specifically interests you. Also, it's why is it a more interesting discussion when all you'll get is 20 posts saying David Hussey over and over again?

David Hussey has the best FC record of any player never to have played test cricket. /thread

I was reading an article in a leading daily yesterday and it was mentioned that Claude Tozer was one of the finest cricketer who never played cricket. He was killed just before he could play test cricket.

Seriously. There is no question it is David Hussey.

He has the best FC record of any player never to play tests, within a period of domestic competition that has been the strongest in the history of test cricket.

He also has an outstanding international record.

Vintcent Van Der Bijl, he could have been amongst the bowling greats of the world if his career wouldn't have collided with South Africa's sporting isolation.
A tall(6 foot 8 inch) accurate fast medium bowler who picked 767 FC wickets in 156 matches at an average of 16.54.
