What about Hammad Azam, my namesake. I've seen his stats but has anyone seen him playing lately. He was poised to be a new Razzaq if I remember correctly.

Don't think that's a facepalm moment at all. Mohammad Amir has been quite vocal about how Test cricket has been burning his body. Saying he won't be able to play for Pakistan much longer in any format if he continues playing Tests. There were rumours that he wanted to retire from Test cricket a while back, but apparently the management didn't let him because they thought the South African and English Test series were far too important to not have an experienced bowler like him, and bring in someone into the squad for the first time. Amir's wanted to retire from Test cricket for quite a while now (rumour has it).

I remember reading about him thinking to retire from the longer version .i.e Tests last year but thought he changed his mind or like you said was persuaded by the team management to play against South Africa and England.

The reaction was more of a disappointment as a fan of Amir of not been able to see him in Test matches anymore. Not having talent like him play the longest form of cricket at the mere age of 27 is an absolute disappointment and shame especially after his wirld performance felt he got his form back and was really looking good but.....

I guess his body just couldn't hold up for the longer format anymore, 'cause he doesn't seem like someone who prefers white ball cricket over Tests. It really is a shame, regardless of the reason of his retirement tho.

I always felt they should have let him do this earlier, before the world cup. No one really knows their body better than an athlete. I might have given him more freedom and focus in limited overs. I feel this is a positive move heading into the T20 World Cup. Of course, it's saddening as a Test cricket fan and a fan of Amir's, what could have been, but you don't want to drag someone along either. Hopefully Pakistan will have enough pace talent in Tests. Looking forward to new younger fast bowlers with more pace than Amir instill some freshness into the Pakistani Test side. It sorely needs that.

I have always thought that Pakistan's Test side was in much more shambles than its limited overs side. I just hope that, now, domestic performances can be prioritized for selection rather than 'youtube' talents. I'm feeling uncharacteristically optimistic that Imran Khan might do something here as he's always spoken highly of prioritizing domestic cricket. Having said that, disappointment alley is always just one turn away for fans of Pakistan cricket.

I am really disappointed that Mohammad Amir retires from test, he is only 27 which should be your peak in your career and to retire from test at that age shows that you are not a great player and should just retire from all cricket.

PCB needs to start producing players that can play test matches because T20 only players are just not good enough, West Indies is a good example of what T20 can do to your team.

I think he'll play till the next WC, when he'll be 31, then retire and get British citizenship (though his wife), and probably try to play IPL?

And I will become the highest run scorer in test, ODIs, t20is, list a, first class and t20 matches!
Azhar Mehmood also played IPL after getting British citizenship. Imran Tahir is highest wicket taker of last IPL after getting South African citizenship.

Generally, without any political references or mentions, I optimistically await the day where we get to see Indian cricketers in Pakistan, and Pakistani cricketers in India again. Amen.

I don't think we would get to see that until we are alive. The condition is that bad !
