Ashok Dinda = 140ks (consistently). Bye bye Ishant?

Before someone jumps to a conclusion that this on the basis of today's game, let me remind you that Ashok Dinda has always been a 140ks bowler... his performances in the IPLs & the domestic circuit stand in testimony to this fact.

He hasn't made the Best debut but if he can bend his back, I think its bye bye Ishant.

Dinda is enormously over-rated, and quite inconsistent when it comes to the longer versions of the game. He has hardly done anything special as far as the present Ranji Trophy is concerned, and has zero contributions in each and every Bengal victory. Not to forget that the lad is terribly self-complacent, and tends to get over the moon with his performances too soon. Has been involved in brawls with almost every member of the Bengal squad, and doesn't have a good reputation at all in the Bengal dressing room. Ishant > Dinda anyday.

You missed Ishi's first spell, Zaheer's presence would have better but yeah he needs rest.

Dinda? didnt see Kumar hitting all over to him? OVER Rated

I thought Ishant's figures today were the best of any bowler (4 overs for 22 runs in a T20 where SL scored 215 in the end). I think too much importance has been given to the pace factor, but if the bowler can pitch it up in the right areas and have a decent speed (130+), he is bound to test batsmen anyday. The occasional 140+ is enough according to me, and both Ishant and Sreesanth are capable of touching 140+ occasionally.

130 is not a decent speed, any class batsman will be able to counter any movement at that speed, especially in Test cricket. 140 is the bare minimum for a fast bowler, not "occasionally touching 140".

McGrath, Pollock and Vaas beg to disagree.

Fast Medium bowlers they were, I am talking about a genuine Fast bowler. I understand your frustration. Must suck to be the only nation in the world that cannot produce someone who can bowl consistently over 140k. Even the Bangladeshis have a few. :laugh :rtfl :rtfl

Umm...what does that have to do with anything? You said 130ks is not good enough, and 3 of the greatest fast bowlers in the game just happened to bowl that speed.

And you really should be the last one to insult another team, seeing as England's ranked what, fifth? I'm happy supporting the number one team, thanks. Even with our 130k 'dobblers'

Id rather be ranked 99th then have to be India :laugh

BTW Stuart Broad can bowl faster than all of the bowlers in India and he has a vagina

Thank god you dont support India....:)

130+ is enough if you pitch it in the right line and length. Akthar and Lee were express pace bowlers, but India never had a problem facing up to them (apart from that 1-2 special spells that these two had) and infact Akthar and Lee have had quite a few instances where they were smashed by the Indian players. We wont mind having 140+ consistent bowlers, but we are perfectly fine with the 130+ bowlers like Ishant, Sreesanth and Zaheer if they pitch it up in the right areas. Occasionally touching 140+ is ENOUGH FOR US! We can still do well with our bowling.

While it would be nice to have a bowler in the 140's, that's hardly the determining factor for how good a bowler you are.

I mean, don't West Indies produce a bowler in the high 140's/150's every few months? Currently they have Taylor, Edwards, Roach and Rampaul. They've had the likes of Tino Best, Pedro Collins, Jermaine Lawson, Darren Powell, Vasbert Drakes, etc. All of them pitch it at a great speed but they've been largely in and out of the side and West Indies have been languishing at the bottom of the Test table. Ambrose and Walsh were the last real Windies bowlers who actually got success and had speed. Taylor looks like he's heading that way.

Speed isn't everything in Test cricket, something that Shaun Tait has shown.
