Hello, I?m Michael Slater and welcome to Dhaka for the first Twenty20 between Bangladesh and Australia. Australia are looking to get some wins under their belt after a horrid tournament in South Africa where they won only one of their 5 matches.
We?ll now cross to Tony Grieg who has the pitch report.

TG: Thanks Slats. Well the pitch we have for you today is a flat looking pitch. This should help the batsmen a lot. Both teams will be looking to bat first and set a total over 180. There is absolutely no grass at all on this pitch. Except for a fine layer of grass. This should help the bowlers generate a bit of swing in the first innings, besides that it?s as flat as a pancake.

Weather wise, we won?t be bothered by any rain. The locals have told me that the ground has been drenched in water for a couple of weeks up until the past week. So it is great work from the ground staff to get this ground ready in time.

There should be a bit of dew in the second innings which will make it slighty slippery to field. Back to you in the box.

MT: Thanks, Tony. Well Simon O?Donnell is down pitch side and ready for the toss.

SO: Habibul, you have to coin, toss away.

RP: Heads!

Match Referee: Heads is the call, and it is a heads.

SO: Ricky, you have won the toss, what are you going to do?

RP: I?m going to have a bowl, Simon.

SO: What is your planning behind that decision?

RP: I think we can take advantage of the only swing that there is going to be in the game and get some early wickets. Hopefully we can get some early wickets and keep them to a total of about 120 to 140.

SO: Ricky, any changes in today?s team from the World Championship?

RP: Just the one change, Mike Hussey is out for Marcus North.

SO: Thanks, Ricky.

SO: Habibul, is this a good toss to lose?

HB: Yes it is, I was going to have a bat anyways. I think that after making the Semi Final of the World Championship, we will be looking to go one further and defeat Australia in a series. We have defeated them in an ODI and now we will be looking to win a Twenty20 series against them.

SO: Any changes to the team?

HB: No, the team will be the same as the Semi Final.

SO: Thanks, Habibul. Back to you in the box.

_______________________________

MT: Thanks Simon. Here we are with the teams.

gAME1jpg551a5d8f.jpg

MT: Guys, any last thoughts before the batsmen walk out?

SW: I think Australia can bounce back from a disastrous tournament and beat the Bangladeshies.

MT: Now we go up into the commentary box with Michael Slater and Ian Healy??

5 over update

Tait’s first over was looking like it would be a maiden before a wayward bouncer went down the leg side. A diving Adam Gilchrist stopped the ball from going away for 5 wides.

In the first ball of the 3rd over, Brett Lee sends down a 143kph bouncer. Sarkar got behind it and went for the hook shot. He got onto the middle of it and the ball sailed 13 rows back.

On the 5th ball of the over, Lee sent down a toe crushing Yorker. Omar was late on a drive and was bowled middle stump. First wicket falls after 10 runs! He falls for a duck and is Lee’s first victim.

After 3 overs Bangladesh are only on 10 and have already lost a wicket!

1st ball of the next over, Tait sends a wayward ball outside off stump. Sarkar goes for a powerful air drive. He only succeeds in hitting it straight to Nathan Bracken at deep extra cover. Sarkar goes for 8 and Bangladesh fall to 2/10.

Tait sends down Saleh a short bouncer at his throat. But Saleh, with quick reactions, gets underneath the ball and sends the ball sailing over the rope down at fine leg for 6!

3 balls into the 5th over. Bashar gets a thick edge which flies towards first slip. He dives forward but the ball bouncers short. Bashar escapes.

On the 5th ball of the 5th over, Brett Lee send down a 135kph bouncer. Bashar is beaten for pace and gets a massive top edge. The ball is then caught at mid-on by Cameron White. He goes for a duck.
Bangladesh now 3/20 and Australia mean business.

Next ball is full of a good length and Sahariah plays a terrible stroke. He goes the pull shot and gives and easy catch to Marcus North at square leg.
He goes for a golden duck and Bangladesh are now in lots of trouble at 4/20 after only 5 overs!

Great bowling by Aussies. Bangladesh are really struggling now. Lee already has 3 wickets to his name and will be looking to take 2 more in his next over. :)

I'll hopefully update 1 more time tonight.
I can't play the PS2 right now because mum is watchin tv.

Lee bowling very good! Bangladesh under the pump big time after losing such quick wickets and batting at a slow rate! Australia should easily go on a dominate. Great pres Sean.

Rajin Saleh has showed the only resistance in the Bangladeshi innings

There was a change of over for the 7th over with Bracken replacing Lee.

He got a wicket first ball. A beauty of a ball. On a terrific line and length, the ball nagged back as Rahman went for a back footed drive. The bat hit the slice and pop up to Ponting a point for a simple Catch. Rahman goes for 1 and Bangladesh slump to 5/26.

Mashud signalled his intent to attack and smacked a full length delivery down the ground for 6 off only his 2nd ball. Bangladesh needed a partnership.

Ian Healy: “We have Ricky Ponting miked up down at ground level.”

IH: “Ricky, can you hear me?”

RP: “Sure can, Heals.”

IH: “Punter, this is the perfect start for your boys, what do you think?”

RP: “You’re absolutely right there, our bowlers have taken the only swing and bouncer that there will be for the match and used that to our advantage. Our bowlers have put the ball in the right spot and received wickets for bowling well.”

IH: “Ricky, what are your thought on this series, and how have you prepared for it?”

RP: “We’ve prepared for this series like any other, we’re just in a bad patch, but -

RP: “Uh, square leg, Mike. Just around a bit, yep that’s fine.”

RP: Sorry about that, just giving orders. As I was saying, we’re just in a bad patch, but hopefully we can get ourselves up and win this, and the other Twenty20 series in the next couple of months.”

IH: “Alright, Punter, thanks for your time and good luck for this match, and future matches.”

RP: “No problem Heals. Anytime for you. Say hi to Warney for me. Oh, and tell him that I have a toasted cheese and tomato sandwich for him.” (:p)

Brad Hogg replaced Tait as Ricky Ponting decided to try some spin.

Hogg got into the wickets after only 4 balls. Hogg bowled his trade mark wrong-un. Mashud picked the delivery but it was the wrong shot. He tried to scoop the ball over Tait at mid-wicket, but only failed in hitting it straight to him.
He goes for 7 as Bangladesh go to 6/35.

In Bracken’s next over, he pitch the ball too wide and the Bangladeshi just rocked back and cut it past point towards the boundary for four.

Next ball, Saleh play a forward defensive prod to cover. He popped the ball up a tad, but the Diving Symonds couldn’t reach the ball.

Rajin Saleh nearly loses his wicket

Mahmud became the 7th Bangladeshi player to fall and Brad Hogg’s 2nd victim. Hogg bowl a terrible ball; Flighted up and around waste height full toss. Mahmud looked to pull the ball but missed it completely. The fat umpire had no option to give him out.
He was on of another 3 to fall
for a duck and Bangladesh slumped to 7/39.

Bangaldehs in real trouble! Batting really bad. BTW the pics are a good idea, like teh chat with Ricky.
Keep up the neat pres :)

Awsome presentation mate, its hard playing the game on different consoles then the computer, but you are presenting it well, KUTGW

End of Bangladesh's innings.

White was brought on in place of Bracken to be given a chance to get a
couple of wickets.

Hogg bowl the ball to full and on Saleh’s toes. He just whipped the ball to the fielder and short fine-leg. He misfields and the ball runs away for 4.

Hogg pitch up a wrong-un by giving it flight. Saleh picked the delivery early and whacked the ball down the ground for one bounce and four.

046500.jpg

Saleh hits another four in his innings of 42 and Bangladesh crumbled to be all out for 65.
White tried to bowl a flatter quicker ball first ball of the next over but only succeeded in being swept away for a brilliant 4.

Next ball, White floated the ball up, Saleh rocked back to delicately glide the ball past the keeper. But instead, he glided it to fine for his liking. The ball went just past Gilchrist and he survived to play another ball.

Cam White’s 4th ball was a quicker one to Mortaza at 93kph. Mortaza went the sweep shot but missed. There was a huge appeal; “Missing leg", replied the umpire.
Bangladeshi’s living dangerously.

Next ball was short and wide, and Mortaza, who can bat a bit rocked back and punched that over the point fielder for four. An excellent shot.

Hogg bowling to Saleh for the first ball of the 14th over. Saleh, trying to get some bonus runs for the Bangladeshi’s went for another big heave down the ground. It went straight up in the air, but Clarke and North and mid-off and mid-on just couldn’t decide who would take the catch, the ball ended up landing the middle of the two. Saleh living dangerously and has moved to 37.

Next ball, Mortaza had a brain explosion and decided to go for a slog. He did not get onto it at all and was caught easily by Tait at midwicket. He goes for 4 and Bangladesh are now 8/59. Hogg now has 3 wickets. Abdur Razzak is the new batsman.

hogg160.jpg

Brad Hogg celebrates the wicket of Mortaza.

First ball of White’s next over, he drags the ball down short and Saleh punches the ball down the ground for yet another four. A brilliant innings under pressure.

Saleh makes the wrong decision by handing the strike of to the number 10 batsmen after only 2 balls. Razzak, like all other batsmen; is out there to have fun and go the slog. He plays a terrific slog sweep in which he plays beautifully. The only problem is, he hits in straight to the man at deep square leg.
He falls for a duck and Bangladesh are now 9/65.

Next ball, Aziz is gifted with a rank full toss outside off stump. Given that he is a number 11 bunny, he plays a terrible shot and gifts a catch to Bracken at cover. The only problem is, it was a bump ball. The umpire didn’t see it, but the crowd; who usually think bump balls are wickets, notice that it was a bump ball and boo the umpire.

The Aussie supporters are of course happy and cheer the boys off the ground.

SW: I’m down here with Brett Lee who took 3/7 from 3 overs. Brett, well bowled. How do you feel to finally get back into the action after being out until this series.

BL: It’s been great Warney, but I came back in the Twenty20 tournament.

SW: Who gave me these f****** papers to read from!?! Anyway Binga, how is your ankle now?

BL: It’s great, look I can’t feel any pain anymore and I’m 100% fit. It’s all about match practice.

SW: Thanks Brett and good luck for the rest of the series. Just remind Punter that I need my toasted sandwich, I'm hungry!

BL: Ta. No problem

MS: Welcome back to Dhaka for this first Twenty20 match between Bangladesh and Australia. If you’ve just joined us, Bangladeshi fans, I’m afraid that your mob have been bowled out for a meagre 65. Brett Lee taking three for seven and Brad Hogg taking three for twelve. I’m joined here with Michael Slater and Simon O’Donnell.
Guys, are the Aussies back in business?

TG: Well, we can’t say that just yet, wait until they win this game and then the series. But they did bowl brilliantly today. Brett Lee was outstanding at the beginning. He had excellent control and his line an length was awesome. I think the best ball was the ball that was full of a good length. Sahariar was in 2 minds and decided to go on the back foot by pulling the ball. He gifted a catch to Marcus North.

SO: I thought that their intent in the field was brilliant. They meant business. It looked like the Aussies of the World Cup. Walking in every ball. They were hungry and they could smell prey.

MS: Let’s talk about the Bangladeshi batting for a moment. They were very jittery. They certainly did not look like the Bangladesh of the 20/20 tournament.

SO: Of course, they looked nervous. They were undecided in their shot selection. They had no idea what to do and got frustrated. Many wickets were from attacking shots which brought about a lot of the player’s downfall.

TG: I was quite happy with Rajin Saleh’s innings. While the other players were falling, he just played his normal aggressive game. He was the rock around the innings and managed to get 42 from 33 balls. He played some lovely strokes. He did not fall into the trap of gifting his wicket by playing rash strokes, and that is why he remained not out.

MS: Thank you for your views guys, we will be back right after this short break for the Australian innings.

5 over update.

Matthew Hayden started off like he meant business and creamed the ball down the ground and 30 rows back for six.

On the 4th ball of the 2nd over, Aziz pitched the ball too sure and wide. Hayden stepped back and across and had a big swing at the ball. He connected and managed four runs over cover.

Next ball, Matthew Hayden went for a shot just like his six in the previous over. It was a full Yorker and he didn’t get a hold of it. It was caught easily by the fielder at mid on. 1st wicket? Wrong. There’s the umpire standing with his arm outstretched. No-ball.

The final ball of the 2nd over was full wide and there for the taking. Adam Gilchrist got down on one knee and just guided that through the gap and on it’s way to the boundary for four.

In the 3rd over, Hayden, as powerful as always stepped forward and smashed a full and wide ball to deep extra cover for six. Terrible bowling.

Next ball was just as bad, and Hayden hit it to the same spot. Except this time, the ball was along the ground and through the gap for four.

Matthew-Hayden_1_Australia_West-Indies_27-03-07.bmp

Matthew Hayden plays a glorious cover drive during is short but quick innings of 26.

Gilchrist fell in the 4th over to a beauty inswinger. Pitch outside off stump, the ball swung in a smashed the stumps out of the ground. Gilly was beatin for pace as he went for a big hit over cover. He goes for 7 and Australia are 1/30 after 3.4 overs.

r71318_198452.jpg

Adam Gilchrist is bowled by a ripping delivery from Tareq Aziz.

It was a brilliant over from Aziz by bowling a wicket maiden. Australia only need 36 more runs to win.

In Mortaza's 3rd over, Hayden broke the deadlock that he had on him and stepped back to smash a good length over cover for 4. It seems to be his only way of getting runs. But surprisingly, Bashar will not put any fielders there.

Hayden fell two balls later to a ripsnorting inswinging Yorker from Mashrafe Mortaza. Coming from outside off stump, Hayden went for the drive, thinking that it would be a wide full toss. To his amazement, the ball dramatically swung back and clipped off stump. He goes for a quick fire 26 from only 14 balls as Australia go to 2/34 after 5 overs.
