Australia make very good start against Sri lanka

Australia have escaped the first session of the day unsacathed, losing no wickets and being 0/92 at Lunch on Day 1. Hayden is not out on 42 and Phil Jaques is 40 not out. Australia will be looking to get one of these guys to a hundred, if not both. The Sri Lankas have been bowling well, though they have no wickets, they have kept the runs down well

Sri Lanka have fought back bravely, claiming 2 wickets to get Australia back to 2/179. Mathew Hayden was the first to go when Kulasekara kocked out his middle stumps and was gone for 51. Then Ponting managed only 7 runs before his was sent packing when he sent an edge to Maharoof at slips. Phil Jaques is going well and is nearing a century on 91 not out alongside Michael Hussey who is 30 not out

VAAS TAKES 3 WICKTES TO RESTRICT AUSTRALIA

Sri Lanka are going well after taking 3 wickets in that session to have Australia in a tricky position at 5/282 at Stumps on day 1. Vaas has 3 wickets and is bowling with great line and length and is getting support from Muralitharan who also took a wicket this session. Phil Jaques knocked up is century, which included 10 fours and 2 sixes but just 21 runs later he was bowled by spinner Muralitharan for 121. Then Michael Clarke came to the crease and managed only 15 runs before Vaas got him, skying a catch to mid-on. Andrew Symonds failed to trouble the scores, making 0 runs off 2 balls

HUSSEY AND GILCHRIST GET THINGS BACK ON TRACK

Adam Gilchrist and Michael Hussey have put on a 110 run partnership to get Australia from 5/282 to 5/378 at Lunch on Day 2. Michael Hussey has made his century and is now looking for the double, whilst Adam Gilchrist is 48 not out and is looking for the 100. One of the best shots of the session was when Hussey hooked a six off Vaas to bring up his hundred

Also, I might note that Dan Cullen has already played a test for Australia. Other than that, good stuff. Australia seem to be working themselves into a good position
