Rain again England's savior on Adam's day

With a little over two hours of rain completely whiping out the last session, that alone could not get England in a good mood after being carted for 234 runs in just 54 overs, only getting one wicket.

While they may have been unlucky not to snare Hanger for a score in the sixties, Wavell Hinds turning down a close LBW shout off James Anderson, little could stop Jeff Hanger and James Adam putting on a breathtaking 340 runs.

As James Adam waltzed to his first double century in first class cricket, smashing a further 106 runs from 149 balls today alone. Jeff Hanger also walked to his forth test ton, before finally edging one off Anderson trying to smash him out of the stadium, a relieved Nick Payne taking the catch for 148. Mike Terblanche remains 17 not out, as the Aussies keep on moving the total up, hoping now to declare at lunch or tea, and take 20 wickets in two and a half days.

Rain looming as Aussies pile on pressure

Despite being bundled out for 578, adding just 56 runs for the loss of six wickets, Australia sit firmly in control having England in strife at 170-6.

As Bucknall picked up three more wickets to finish with four, including James Adam for a swashbuckling 216, England were completely destroyed by the Aussies, losing their first two wickets in the last over before lunch, in successive balls.

As the captain Boxer was given out plumb LBW for a golden duck, Hall and Child put on 40 before Burley struck, Child dismissed for twenty as Chris Baldwin took a great catch.

Burley took another two wickets, Hollinghurst and Payne, while Watson picked up Stan Hall for an impressive 74. Alastair Cook was lucky, as he edged Watson but was dropped by Mandell at first slip.

Most of the first two sessions tomorrow are expected to be rained out, with already 299 minutes lost.

Sunny day ahead as England's gloomy day gets worse

Australia have destroyed England on another rain interrupted day, snaring 7 wickets for just 88 runs, despite losing another two hours due to rain.

The Aussies closed off England's first innings with 4-4, Shane Watson and Tony Burley finishing with five wicket hauls, and then enforced the follow on.

A shaky start was Travis fall for just 25, playing down the wrong line to Ebert and having his off stump pegged back. Captain Boxer fell again cheaply, missing the straight one from Burley. The other man to fall was Andy Child, 11 as he was bowled by Eagletime.

The English need to hope for some rain, but forecasts say there won't be any. Hollinghurst (0*) and Hall (33*) lead the defense.

Baldwin leads by example, despite Hall's bravery

Australian captain Garry Baldwin has lead his team to an innings and 154 run victory over the English, to take a 1-0 series lead after two games. Despite the scoreline, things were really tense as the Australians needed two wickets in an hour. They got them thanks to Garry Baldwin, who brought himself on when the pace bowlers were struggling, obviously aware of Stan Hall's trouble against the ball turning into him.

As Hollinghurst fell for a scratchy 3 off 31, bowled by an Ebert yorker, the English needed something special from young Hall and the 32 year old Alastair Cook. They got it with a 190 minute, 104 run stand, which only ended when Garry Baldwin brought himself on, bowling Cook for 55 with the first ball of his second over. The ball pitch on off stump, quickening up on Cook and hitting middle stump.

Nick Payne continued his struggles against Tony Burley, popping one up to Stubbs at short leg for just 2. But the real heartbreak came when Baldwin bowled a big turning ball coming into Hall, who pushed forward only to pop it up into the waiting hands of Jeff Hanger. He was dismissed for 99, one short of his second test ton.

When Hunniford fell for a duck before tea, edging a wrong'un from Burley to Mandell, England looked gone with two in hand and a session to go.

But James Anderson and Kurt Sheen held off for just over an hour, before Garry Baldwin struck, Sheen caught at bat pad for 22. Two balls later it was all over, Baldwin clean bowling Bucknall.

Australia take a 1-0 lead, the man of the match, thanks to his first FC double ton, James Adam. A total of 407 minutes were lost due to rain.

England bite back after Mandell ton

England have fought back from from the brink to be on level terms at sumps on day one, restricting Australia to 268-4.

England made one change to their lineup, Jim Guinness coming in for Kurt Sheen, while Australia made no chance, with Beau Phelps named 12th Man.

Despite an interrupted first session, Australia went wicketless at 55-0, before Anderson struck at 89-0, Baldwin again falling after a good start LBW. Aaron Stubbs followed for seven in severely unlucky fashion, given out LBW when it was clearly missing off stump by a long way.

James Adam joined Mandell at the crease, and the two proceeded to put on an amazing 150 run stand, Peter Mandell racing to his 29th test century, before being dropped by Child at first slip off Guinness. It didn't matter though, the next ball he was run out for 123.

As the nightwatchsman Eagletime came to the crease, he and Adam lasted fourteen overs together, before Adam was given out LBW for a brilliant 84 off Bucknall. With some rain forecasted for tomorrow, England will hope for some early movement. The last three days of the test are predicted to be fine.

Aussies retain control thanks to Baldwin blitz

Australia have maintained a commanding 347 run lead at stumps of day two after being bowled out for 445 and having England on the ropes at 98-3.

As Jeff Hanger fell first ball of the day from a Hunniford yorker, Australia effectively began at 268-5. Nightwatchsman Ryan Eagletime was run out for ten after an hour and a half of resistance from a direct hit from the boundry.

Joining Mike Terblanche at the crease was Chris Baldwin, who immediately hit a boundary off his first ball. A 91 run seventh wicket stand propelled Australia into a big score, Terblanche was dropped on 39, but eventually was caught by Hollinghurst off Hunniford ten runs later.

Another 49 run stand between Watson and Baldwin ended as Watson missed Guinness' straight one for 28, and Tony Burley then fell for a duck off Guinness again.

Chris Baldwin's innings of 82 finally ended as he was caught by keeper Payne off Guinness, who snared his third wicket.

England started off brilliantly with a 74 run opening stand before Hall was bowled by spinner Tony Burley, missing the wrongun which spun back in to the left hander, between bat and pad. He also got rid of Travis for 51, the wrongun turning away, then popping up to Stubbs at short leg.

Child followed suit, this time to the wrongun again, spinning away from the right hander and taking the outside edcge which Mandell claimed easily. England 91-3.

Captain Roy Boxer remains not out on six, and Hollinghurst on four.

Mandell and Burley lead Australia to Ashes defence

Australia have retained the Ashes after a commanding 279 run demolition job against a lacklustre England side. Man of the match Peter Mandell scored twin centuries, now thirty in his test career, while Tony Burley snatched 13 wickets, including a career best 49-8 off thirty overs.

One worry for the Australians is the form of captain Garry Baldwin, who averages just 29 for the series. One suspects that Jeff Hanger or Mike Terblanche will open for the Aussies and Baldwin will return to the middle order, or some say Baldwin will be dropped.

Shane Watson's spot may be on the line with Beau Phelps returning from injury.

For England, Anthony Child is in trouble along with bowler James Anderson with Graham Skinner really pushing for selection.

Where is Henriques at? He should be a part of the Aus rebuilding :) Future all rounder for mind.
2017-18, I'd say he'd be close to retiring by now.
