The Australian home summer has one final match to go with the home side taking on arch rivals India in the final of the VB series in Melbourne tomorrow. In the last meeting between the two teams, India produced 4/307 from 50 overs against an understrength Australian attack who rested many of its stars.
The world champions will pick their strongest side for the clash at the MCG infront of a sell out crowd of over 80,000 fans. Ricky Ponting will again be the crucial wicket for Australia, after the captain has made scores of 35, 141 not out and 73 in the one day series.
On the other hand India will be counting on their maestro Sachin Tendulkar to continue his good from from the previous match in Brisbane where he scored 182 not out from only 157 balls.
(Ricky Ponting has been in superb form in the current VB series)
With the VB series final just one day away, the anticipation has reached fever point as the teams prepare outside the MCG in Melbourne. The MCG ground looks to be in superb condition which should make for an extremely entertaining final match. Channel Nine commentator Mark Taylor looks at the key players for both sides and puts his tip in for the VB Series winner.
The Key Batsmen
Ricky Ponting (Australia)
Punter has been in superb form this VB series, making 249 runs from only 3 innings at an average of 124.5. He had a solid test series vs India making 243 runs at an average of 48.6 and will be called on to lead his team from the front. Ponting has fond memories of the MCG and has played many big innings in Melbourne.
Sachin Tendulkar (India)
Tendulkar has been out of sorts on this Australian tour and was under intense pressure after scoring only 49 runs at an average of 8 in the test series but returned to form with back to back scores of 79 from 67 balls against Pakistan and 182 from 157 balls against Australia in Brisbane. Tendulkar has long been regarded as one of the best batsmen to have played the game, and will be crucial to the Indian cause here in Melbourne.
The Bowlers
Brett Lee (Australia)
Lee has matured into one of the best one day bowlers in the world. His pace on this hard MCG track will be dangerous to the Indian top order and with Glenn McGrath up the other end, Lee will be able to unleash with his full pace.
Sreesanth (India)
The young quick has produced a number of good spells in his debut series with performances of 3/63 and 5/60 and may cause headaches for the Australian top order, he is definitely one to watch for the future.
